‘Two-child limit taking toll on family life’

SweetMelodies · 27/06/2019 10:05

www.itv.com/news/2019-06-25/two-child-limit-taking-toll-on-family-life-study-suggests/

So the first detailed research into families effected by the 2-child policy, where tax credits are only paid for the first two children unlike in the past when it was every child, has taken place and has found that families are suffering as a direct result of this.

A lot of comments on SM seem to forget that many many working families are effected as well. Even some families with ‘above-average’ incomes used to be entitled to tax credits for a third or subsequent child.

Any thoughts on this? I have mixed feelings as to whether it will work on in the long-run or not. Of course we all know families who have carried on having babies with no thought because each child has meant another monthly tax credits sum... but then there are also the families who are going to face one unplanned pregnancy that could push them into poverty and make their other children suffer.

Xenia why were you stripped of child benefit unless earning too much in which case why do you need it? So because you are considered too wealthy for state benefits you think others much worse off should lose them too? What an extremely bitter stance to take. Can't believe it tbh.

And the cap applies to new claims no matter when the child was born so yeah will hit ordinary 'hardworking' people the worse since benefits won't pay their mortgage when one gets redundant sick dies etc etc. Happens
No it only applies to dc born after April 2017 even if a new claim.

2eternities · 29/06/2019 19:58

They must have changed it, always U turning that lot like when they planned to raid the pension pot then back tracked because it was unpopular with their core voters. They probably realised this was pushing the boundaries of cruel Ness a tad far and backtracked. God knows, but anyway, all tj the judgemental genuinely evil bastards on this thread, I hope you have a shitty sleep tonight, lol. I wouldn't wish starvation or homelessness on you though as it would render me as shit as you lol.

Kashali · 29/06/2019 20:01

The actual scrounging types people want to see suffer are usually OK since they usually `hustle' ie have contacts buy knock off from shoplifters etc most don't have high standards for their lives anyway I have found.

This reminds me of My Fair lady when Eliza's Dad is trying to sell her.
The line I'm the undeserving poor, I can't afford morals

Many people have their deserving and undeserving poor, we should support those who can't or don't support themselves, the latter being a very small percentage.

RedDogsBeg · 29/06/2019 20:24

lol I've had more worthwhile and intelligent conversations with a 2 year old lol.

2eternities · 29/06/2019 20:40

I don't actually think anyone is a scrounger these are ordinary people who often have had shitty lives just trying to get by not that any of these snobs will realise that, wonder how many of them actually know these types of people. A lot are good people who would give you the shirt off their back.

2eternities · 29/06/2019 20:45

Red dog's what a snobby comment lol! have to write quick due to being very busy at home haven't got the time to write 'eloquently' tbh. No conversation has even been attempted either it's the same drivel being regurgitated. You kind of prove my point about people being looked down upon. Clearly another who sees herself as superior to others LOL

Kashali · 29/06/2019 20:45

2eternities.

There are none so blind as those who don't want to see.
Never mind, we are supposed to keep our heads, down, get on with it, using our screens communicating anger. Look down on others because we are superior.
The gap between the rich and poor gets even bigger, but people would rather argue about the scraps, whilst the fat cats control us all.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 29/06/2019 21:00

Me and DP regularly get electrics phones etc costing hundreds just given to use for example

You're quite a character aren't you.

And no I don't mean that in an affectionate way.

Hithere12 · 29/06/2019 21:02

don't have more than 2 kids unless you are very rich or have extremely good insurance to cover all eventualities because benefits will only cover costs for 2 kids

No not “really rich” just that they can afford to have 3 kids? Having three kids is not a necessity!!

PatoPotato · 29/06/2019 21:32

Thanks Wink

Don't worry about the posters arguing with you. They won't be happy until we are all subservient to Glorious Leader Master Bezos, no time off and pissing in bottles. But you know... At least we'll all have "jobs" like good little wage slaves!

@ all the other drones repeating the same broken record
Yep, let's keep attacking the welfare state and pretending it's about personal responsibility. The same people telling those on their death bed that they are fit to work are the same ones working against children being fed. Don't be so cocky. When all those who are forced off benefits are desperate workers added to the labour market (which goes against you in simple economics), someone will be out there to take your lunch. Your boss will tell you, you should be so happy to have a job as you lose all the privileges socialism got you ( hint hint working time regulations, proper breaks, mandatory holiday, and job security). Maybe take a branded piss cup so it doesn't get mixed up with your colleagues'.

2eternities · 29/06/2019 21:36

It was meant to say just given to us and yes my Mil gets stuff all the time, this phone I'm using was given by her, free. Why do you have a problem with this? I've no idea where the stuff comes from.

2eternities · 29/06/2019 21:45

Yes, rather than address any point made they just make personal insults, maybe something said has really grinded their gears. The idea unemployed people get money 'chucked' at them really make me laugh.

To the poster who called me a hypocrite Re my friend, she was living with her parents with them covering All her and her sons expenses whetheras my dad lives abroad and I get an allowance that is considered the same as Cm unearned money that doesn't effect my claim. It's completely different since my dad doesn't pay my housing costs for one.

It was merely a point though, I didn't actually begrudge her the money I think she deserved nights out as a teenage mum, but it does show how certain people will claim when it suits them see xenia comment where because she lost her entitlement obviously due to income she thinks others should lose theirs. Some of it is jealousy which I find bizarre

Shinesweetfreedom · 29/06/2019 21:51

Re the hustle,ah I see,you mean living off others,a thief and living off thieves.
Yeah but some of us were brought up,not dragged up.

everythingisginandroses · 29/06/2019 21:58

I'm 'respectable' working class, but I don't do benefit-bashing/benefit envy because I'm not a fucking idiot. Biscuit

Sandybval · 29/06/2019 22:04

No one really has, they've just said that 2 children is a reasonable amount and there'll be more money to invest in other parts of welfare other than children.

4legsandawaggytail · 29/06/2019 22:46

We budgeted for how many children we could afford. I don't understand accidental pregnancies. If you don't want to get pregnant precautions must be taken. It's not rocket science these days.

RedDogsBeg · 29/06/2019 23:01

You are the one regurgitating the same drivel over and over again 2eternities and I agree you have not attempted to have a conversation just labelled posters snobby, spiteful, nasty, lacking in empathy and then showed you have zero empathy and are full of patronising judgement yourself as to the circumstances of others.

Just keep on lolling and hustling and accepting free goods you claim to have no knowledge as to the provenance of. You are blinded by your own prejudices dismissing as jealous anyone who doesn't who doesn't share your opinion.

totallycluelessoverhere · 30/06/2019 08:03

To those saying just take the kids into care of the parents can’t afford to feed them as a result of having more kids than they can afford:

Yes, let’s take them into care and pay a foster carer £400 a week to look after them and feed them properly. Let’s employ and pay more social workers, cafcass officers and family court judges to deal with the influx of children you will be taking into care. Let’s employ more mental health workers to sea with the adverse mental health of these children as they grow up and become struggling teenagers due to their childhood experiences of being removed from their parents.
Let’s then remove the children of those children when they have multiple children themselves due to needing to feed the love they haven’t had as a child because they won’t be able to afford to feed them.

Or we could just pay benefits as we did previously and prevent all these extra expenses because the current 2 child tax credit limit is barely saving the public purse anything.

swingofthings · 30/06/2019 08:14

2eternities, it's because of people like you that the government had to bring new legislation to limit tax credits. People who constantly points fingers at others, those who work hard for an income that everything taken into account probably end up with less disposable income than you. Those who claim all they can just like you but who get slightly more than you from other sources.

Those who have a total sense of entitlement in life. Your background is probably impacting on your attitude, if you've grown up feeling that who were supposed to care for you took what you should have had away from you, but it doesn't make it right.

Society owes to look after you when you are not able to do it yourself, it doesn't owe you the lifestyle you wish for yourself and your children. You are responsible for yourself and your kids before society is. Society which is constituted of some rich people are so through pure luck, but many many more people who are not much different to you, who make choices they wish they didn't have to make because its what's is best for their current children and society and who the same people who allow you and your children not to be destitute.

How about showing some gratitude that you live in a society that allows you this rather than insult those people who supports you. As for jealousy, it's utterly nonsense. What is there to be jealous of?

Contraceptionismyfriend · 30/06/2019 08:16

Or....these idiots could just stop after having two children.

Because you know contrary to what is constantly on MN contraception has a very high success rate. And if they just took some personal responsibility their children wouldn't have to suffer.
Maybe if these examples started being decent parents their children wouldn't be starving.

I don't care how little it's actually saves. It's not about the saving. It's about stopping the entitlement.

totallycluelessoverhere · 30/06/2019 08:24

But people aren’t stopping at two contraceptionismyfriend . You can keep repeating that they should stop at two all you like but it doesn’t change the fact that these children have been born / will still be born. Why you thinks shoild happen and what actually happens is morning always the same thing.

totallycluelessoverhere · 30/06/2019 08:25

^^ what you think should happens and what actually happens is not always the same thing.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 30/06/2019 08:25

Contraception, I agree. It’s not just about cost savings but removing the sense of entitlement some people have and forcing people to take responsibility for the choices they have made. The fact it’s had to be done and the number complaining about it shows it was the right decision.
