To think that no sane women

....could ever vote for Boris Johnson?

Reading The Sunday Times over brekkie and thinking about Matthew Parris's spot on words in yesterday's paper:

"he's a habitual liar, a cheat, a conspirator with a criminal pal to have an offending journalist's ribs broken, a cruel betrayer of the women he seduces, a politician who connived in a bid for a court order to suppress mention of a daughter he fathered, a do-nothing mayor of London and the worst foreign secretary in living memory"

I'm a so called floating voter but could never vote for this buffoon but it seems he has a lot of support. Why???

OP posts:
TwistedAnkle · 09/06/2019 09:12

I couldn't agree more and also don't understand why he gets such support from some people

TwistedAnkle · 09/06/2019 09:13

Also why any man would support him??

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 09/06/2019 09:17

I don’t know how anyone can vote for him, but then I don’t know how anyone was dim enough to believe his Brexit twaddle yet they did. He is a shambles. It will be like the Barnum and Bailey Circus has come to town, but this time it’s Barnum and Boris.

CruellaFeinberg · 09/06/2019 09:19

We all thought this about Trump though, that was a joke and now look where he is

bigchris · 09/06/2019 09:21

Because lots of people don't research or read the news

They just think he's a loveable guy with floppy hair

spanielove · 09/06/2019 09:25

The whole situation just makes me want to pull my hair out! I was the same regarding the Trump situation, it makes me so sad.

I think we need some more 'real' people in parliament, people that come from low income families, experience with benefits, doctors, psychologists, compassionate people that have experience with health & MH problems. (Basically more compassionate people that haven't been raised with a silver spoon in their mouth!)

floraloctopus · 09/06/2019 09:28

Not all sane people have the wherewithal to look beyond the headlines of whatever news paper they believe.

Society is full of many groups with their own misconceptions that they believe, that's why. You've got the racists, misogynists, elitist and then you've got the plain deluded who believe that socialism will mean we are all equal and the have-nots will have the same as the haves, the equally deluded ones who believe that anybody who doesn't have a detached house, large car and 2.4 children at private school are working class scum. Then add in all the ones who hate others and all the ones who believe every word they read in the news papers whether it's racist bigoted (and sometimes the more the better in their dim view), unpleasant and downright nasty and what do you end up with?

Cornettoninja · 09/06/2019 09:29

They just think he's a loveable guy with floppy hair

This. He’s got the persona of a sketch show character and that appeals to the British sense of humour. Hands up I used to think he was just some funny exaggerated public school boy and it was amusing to see such a stereotyped man bumbling about.

Unfortunately he’s anything but and this has become increasingly apparent as his career has progressed. The man’s a liability and overly entitled power hungry twat.

ssd · 09/06/2019 09:31

I don't get how any sane PERSON who votes for Boris Johnson, Rees Mogg etc etc thinks they are voting AGAINST the establishment

onalongsabbatical · 09/06/2019 09:33

Matthew Parris is consistently good on Brexit and many other issues. Unfortunately it is beginning to look like we're going to end up with Johnson in the top job. I really fear for this country with him whistling at the helm. How we stop it I don't know. What we do after it's happened, well, keep trying to turn it all round. It's depressing.

LonelyTiredandLow · 09/06/2019 09:34

Considering what his idiocy did for Zaghari-Ratcliffe in Iran, I'd say he is potentially the most dangerous option on the cards.

cheesemumma · 09/06/2019 09:35

YANBU and agree with pp- no sane man either.

LonelyTiredandLow · 09/06/2019 09:36

TwistedAnkle I suspect it depends how misogynist you are as a man?

ABCSigns · 09/06/2019 09:37

I just looked at his wikipedia page.

OMG what is Biographer Sonia Purnell smoking? Some of BoJo's weed obviously! She says 'is blessed with immense charisma, wit, sex appeal and celebrity gold dust; he is also recognised and loved by millions'

Theworldisfullofgs · 09/06/2019 09:37

There is a strange woman on Twitter who is obsessed with him.

Me, I think he is a knob.

MorondelaFrontera · 09/06/2019 09:37

Political views aside, the fact that someone has an affair has absolutely nothing to do with the way they hold a job as long as they are not a moral adviser.

Having a new younger girlfriend is completely irrelevant to me and not why I would vote or not vote for someone.

Iamthewombat · 09/06/2019 09:38

He is something much worse than a buffoon.

floraloctopus · 09/06/2019 09:39

as long as they are not a moral adviser.

Like Michael Gove then?

cheesemumma · 09/06/2019 09:39

And the fact he was, and near enough still is, a climate change denier.

justswanning · 09/06/2019 09:39

Ditto Corbyn, who I also think is hideous. What a horrible choice we may end up having at the next election, urrrgh.

OP posts:
justswanning · 09/06/2019 09:41

Moron - the affair is meaningful for me, it indicates how trustworthy and empathetic he is. Both important traits for a politician in my opinion.

OP posts:
youarenotkiddingme · 09/06/2019 09:42

Someone said last week the thought he was the Uks answer to Donald Trump.

Then Trump endorsed him.

I'm not conservative (but floater of other parties) but there's no way I'd vote him either.

As for M Gove. Don't give a toss about past coke use. But he ducked up the education system for the last generation and so there's no way I'd give them the country!

ZenNudist · 09/06/2019 09:44

I can't believe the electorate are so forgetful that they would seriously vote for him in a general election. But London voted him in as mayor. Since then his has done an absolutely appalling job as Foreign Secretary and his performance in the EU referendum and after has shown him to be a cowardly liar.

I blame him squarely for this brexit mess. He clearly decided to back leave to further his own career.

Now he is saying that he is going to withhold the EU divorce bill to get a better deal. I think he is going to find himself in the same weak shitty position that TM found herself in.

He's only got one advantage. The EU may (but are unlikely to) respond to his attitude that unlike TM he doesn't seem very bothered about wrecking the country. Perhaps this will give him some leverage but I'm not convinced.

TM seemed to be more concerned about her Legacy. BoJo will fuck the country give a shrug and a grin and push off back to his privileged lifestyle without a care in in the world.

We are screwed.

dreygrey · 09/06/2019 09:44
is why - people are out there who really think like this.
QuiteChic · 09/06/2019 09:45

Trump and Boris - you couldn't make it up. If we thought we were anywhere close to an equal society, words fail me - these two disprove that in spades.
