....could ever vote for Boris Johnson?

Reading The Sunday Times over brekkie and thinking about Matthew Parris's spot on words in yesterday's paper:

"he's a habitual liar, a cheat, a conspirator with a criminal pal to have an offending journalist's ribs broken, a cruel betrayer of the women he seduces, a politician who connived in a bid for a court order to suppress mention of a daughter he fathered, a do-nothing mayor of London and the worst foreign secretary in living memory"

I'm a so called floating voter but could never vote for this buffoon but it seems he has a lot of support. Why???

OP posts:
dreygrey · 09/06/2019 15:43

I wonder how he'll compare to Thatcher.

justswanning · 09/06/2019 15:44

Violent - also don't forget that tommy Robinson (or whatever he's called) failed miserably to be elected. There is hope...

OP posts:
LadyOfTheCanyon · 09/06/2019 16:39

Thatcher? The fucking twat wants to compare himself to Churchill.

justswanning · 09/06/2019 17:34

Whatever you think about them they could both lead, were strong, determined and had vision.

Boris fails on all counts

OP posts:
derxa · 09/06/2019 17:59

He's a liar full stop.

Phineyj · 09/06/2019 18:28

Well fortunately, unless you're a Conservative party member or live in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, you won't have to either way.

Although I see the general point.

justswanning · 12/06/2019 15:44

You might one day phineyj

OP posts:
ChocChocButtons · 12/06/2019 15:58

Well in a world where people vote for Jeremy Corbyn lol I don’t think there’s room to vecso judgemental.

ChocChocButtons · 12/06/2019 16:00

@justswanning your right Brexit has shown me how petty and nasty people can be. The things I’ve seen said about leavers is disgusting.

ChewbaccaHutchinsCool · 12/06/2019 16:10

How can any sane person vote for any of them? They're all cunts.

Louisianna16 · 12/06/2019 16:29

Amused at all the people who use fact Boris has had affairs to knock him as a politician.Im not worse at my job because I once had an affair years ago. Jeremy Corbyn has had several, including one with Diane Abbott when married to his first wife, and has been married 3 times, but no one uses that to decry him. Half of the HOC are at it, and many of the HOL wd be if they still could..

There are many, many more ways to be untrustworthy than just by having an affair. Theresa May was pure as the driven snow affair wise, I'm pretty sure, but was still an untrustworthy and incompetent Home Secretary, and then PM.

Michael Gove is slightly different because he broke the Law, and .as pointed out earlier , castigated middle class professionals like himself for being cokeheads, even hosting a party where cocaine and other drugs were rife, just after writing that article.

Hypocrisy and appalling judgement? Yes. . Should that it define him now, 30 years later? No, .- only if he is actuallysmoking, shooting up or doing a line while in Parlt.

This general judgemental obsession with personality and personal past foibles instead of policies, is serving this country appallingly. + the journalists and public so quick to abuse and hold their hands up in (politically motivated in some cases) horror are very unlikely to be squeaky clean themselves...

mumwon · 12/06/2019 16:41

I am cynical - I think the conservatives feel that Boris as pm might win over brexiteers at the next (fairly imminent?)election BUT the one thing I do hope is that unlike USA if the mps want pm out they can do it fairly easily - however imagine if there was a decision on war or something catastrophic - (shudders)

pumpastrotter · 12/06/2019 16:54

I agree with you, but it will be the same ilk of women who voted for Trump rich white and hetro

Truly scraping the barrel with each of these runners.

Cinammoncake · 12/06/2019 17:02

YANBU. He'll pick up the middle aged male sexist racist vote aka Farage fans, that's all the Tories care about

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 12/06/2019 17:19

On this matter, I have to ask why on earth the thread title states "no sane woman". Surely no sane person could vote for this lying self-serving hypocritical turncoat?

This remains my favourite piece of satire on him tompride.wordpress.com/2016/05/28/the-great-eu-debate-boris-johnson-vs-boris-johnson/
The only good thing about him is the way he has been enabling satirists to sharpen their wits for years, there's loads of good material out there.

Well,Londoners already did, twice.

If he can win Labour London twice, he's a winner. Conservatives , like all other parties are in it to win it. Members also know a winner whnen they see one, and so do MPs who want to have ahope of hanging onto their careers.

Under .current circumstances it would be crazy for any party to reject the most popular candidate who has proved his winning credentials politically, and when your party is about to get annihilated!

.

DarkAtEndOfTunnel · 12/06/2019 17:33

London isn't England, or Britain. Perhaps he represents a reason why the party is about to get annihilated.

SisterMaryLoquacious · 12/06/2019 17:35

To beget one pregnancy in an adulterous affair is a misfortune. To have two looks like carelessness. Even Lady Bracknell’s vocabulary would fail her at four (that we know of).

baileys6904 · 12/06/2019 17:41

It pisses me off that if someone dares to differ from the opinion of the OP, they are deemed ito insane.

Pretty fucking harsh for a different opinion

Perhaps ig people got their heads out of their arses and respected the fact that, weirdly, pretty much everyone in this country actually wants it to succeed and provide a good place for our family and loved ones for many years to come. Pretty much everyone. The only difference is he way they think it will be accomplished. That's not someone being insane. That's someone having a different route.

If we start respecting peoples opinions and listening to the concerns and points of view, perhaps the brexit vote wouldn't have been such a shock and perhaps his country would be less splintered.

I dont deign to pretend to know what concerns people in london have. I can tell you they're likely different to the ones held up north. People will vote or form an opinion based on their reality. That's not insane. That's a different experience

People want the same thing. They want their family to be safe, well fed, well looked after and happy for many years to come. Dont come with the ' agree with me or you're a dick' mentality. Its bullying and oppressive and fucking wrong.

Louisianna16 · 12/06/2019 17:50

London isn't England, or Britain. Perhaps he represents a reason why the party is about to get annihilated.

1.You miss the point, its not about London, its about winning a naturally hostile environment If he can win a strongly Labour city twice, then of course the Party wants a bit of that.

2.You need to pay more attention if you think the Cons are getting slaughtered because they are too Pro Leave!. .Last two .weeks elections, EU and Peterborough have seen protest voting by the thousands, and most Tory voters were clearly telling them that they have to do as requested ,get out of EU and do it asap, by trotting off to Farages Brexit Party. Clue's in the name as to why.

It wasnt the Tories who benefitted Remain LD's at EU elections, it was ex Labour voters, also fed up at Corbyns refusal to countenance 2nd Ref, and instead present a fence sitting position.

Snowy111 · 12/06/2019 17:51

I suspect the people that will vote for him in the leadership ballots are all earning over £50k? Call me a cynic but....

But who else is in the leadership race that you would vote for? I think the only one that talks sense is Stewart.

Louisianna16 · 12/06/2019 17:52

Quite. Well said. baileys6904

TakenForSlanted · 12/06/2019 17:54

While I absolutely agree that having had an affair and being good at your job are usually completely unrelated, can I just say how absurd it seems that we're arguing about whether any woman in her right mind would vote for BoJo when there would seem to be women who've actually slept with him??? Envy

Louisianna16 · 12/06/2019 17:54

@Snowy111 I wish. re 50k plus!

Louisianna16 · 12/06/2019 17:57

Taken for slanted Corbyn's had 3 wives and one mistress - we know about, maybe theres more. So...you know......no accounting for taste..
