Mumsnet almost unusable this morning?

I doubt this will even post given all the issues this morning.

Has anyone else been getting a white screen and pages not loading?

It's making the site almost unusable, where as all other websites i'm on seem to be working as normal.

@IceRebel

I tweeted this morning and a few days ago

It just said the site could not be reached each time I tried.

SammySamSam09 · 18/05/2019 11:55

Been like this for days.
Android app, iPad app and on my laptop.

IceRebel · 18/05/2019 11:56

So from what everyone is posting here it, and on other threads in the last few weeks. It's definitely a Mumsnet problem.

No amount of us sharing whether we're on the app, main site, using a brick phone or an Iphone 16.5 X from the future, with all the bells and whistles will make any difference... correct?

If so why can't MNHQ just tell us what's going on? Surely they must know why their site is playing up or down, considering we can't get on it, and if they don't then that's pretty concerning. Hmm

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2019 12:01

It's been like this for months now.

Saucery · 18/05/2019 12:08

Two days of early morning problems here (6-8 am) . iPad, Safari browser and also on Android phone. Use AdBlocker Plus.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 18/05/2019 12:17

Yep. Thursday morning was impossible I was unable to connect for hours. 504 message. Then again this morning but no message at all.

Irulez · 18/05/2019 12:51

and echoes in the sound.......of silence......... Hmm

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 18/05/2019 13:05

Hello again - thanks for all the details and we're really sorry for the performance issues, which are due to some essential site optimisation work happening over the next few weeks. Rest assured we're sorting it out as fast as we can and will keep you updated over on site stuff as we get more information. Thanks for bearing with us. Flowers

IceRebel · 18/05/2019 13:13

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Would it be possible to have an update thread as a cross topic sticky?

Also it's super confusing that JenMumsnet thanked us for flagging the issue, when surely she should have been aware that the site was undergoing maintenance? Confused

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/05/2019 13:16

Phew - I thought my phone was playing up!

Irulez · 18/05/2019 13:24

Why are you going to cause weeks of interruption? Most sites go down for a couple of hours (planned) ONCE every 6 months ago.
So we can expect weeks of this?

Can you at least let us know when the site is going to be down so that we don't keep trying to load it, never knowing when it's going to be back up?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 18/05/2019 13:33

Hello @IceRebel - yes, a stickied thread for updates is certainly possible - thanks for the suggestion. Jen was definitely aware but wanted to double check with our tech team first - as we usually do in these circumstances. Apols for the confusion!

scratchyfluffface · 18/05/2019 14:03

I get this half the time when using mumsnet Hmm

Thrupennybrit · 18/05/2019 14:06

As well as occasional Apache Tomcat error messages I am having trouble with Bookmarks not working. Firefox on laptop.

Thrupennybrit · 18/05/2019 16:51

And forgot to mention that on my watched threads I have duplicates of any threads I've "bumped and reset".

Irulez · 18/05/2019 17:08

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Can you let us know the times the site will be scheduled to be down?

IronManisnotDead · 18/05/2019 17:46

Yep been like this for days, logs me out and then tells me my login details are incorrect.

IronManisnotDead · 18/05/2019 17:57

@Irulez I think you are right, I said the same thing this morning on another thread about this. I had to reregister as a new user because it logged me off telling me my login details were incorrect, which I knew they were not as they were on auto save originally. Despite trying countless times and then sending a reset password link, no emails came through from MNHQ to do this.

So I reregistered. But yeah no doubt we have been hacked ........ Again Confused

EstherMumsnet · 18/05/2019 19:53

Just to clarify that the performance issues are a result of site optimisation - we’re aware of it and we're working on a fix. Hopefully the fix will be of the actually works variety but of course please let us know if you have further issues.

Irulez · 18/05/2019 19:56

Esther - are we talking weeks or days of this?

Irulez · 18/05/2019 19:57

And what the hell is site optimisation?

IceRebel · 18/05/2019 20:00

we're working on a fix.

So it's not regular maintenance, or upgrades?

Hopefully the fix will be of the actually works variety

This sounds like it could continue indefinitely, as you don't actually know how to make the issues mentioned stop. Confused

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 18/05/2019 20:10

I'm bored shitless of getting the Hmmm... cannot reach this page message. Mumsnet has been a large scale site for many years now and every other website seems to manage perfectly well with scheduled maintenance. Why can't they just say we will be closed for X amount of time on Y date instead of tweaking stuff whilst we are trying to use the site?

AuntieStella · 18/05/2019 20:21

How about following bear practice, and giving regular updates (satpy every 4 hours) even if it is simply saying there is nothing new to say and next update will be at X o'clock?

I couldn't get in this morning (6ish?) whilst passenger on a long drive , and had been hoping to while away time on MN. Found something else to do, as every other site was loading properly. So a good journey after all

ControversialFerret · 18/05/2019 20:35

Glad it's not just me. Had this all week - apache tomcat messages.

Am on chrome via a chromebook. MN is the only site I'm having issues with. Does someone need to put 50p in the meter? Grin
