Game of Thrones - Shall I start watching now?!

ThatCurlyGirl · 17/05/2019 10:46

I've never watched GOT.

But have seen (Obvs) all the news about it and loved the scenes I have seen in passing on news sites etc.

Is it too late for me to start from the beginning now?

If everyone is disappointed in the ending am I just setting myself up for disappointment?

I'm still recovering from an accident and will be for a few months, so I have time on my hands... would be nice to have a distraction from being in pain.

I love love love Harry Potter, LOTR etc but read and watched them to death.

Any thoughts for a GOT newbie?!

Do it. Get Now TV and binge the lot.

PhannyPharts · 17/05/2019 10:48

I'm not quite at the end - I'm binge watching the last few episodes before the finale

Watch it and judge for yourself. Its graphic in sexual and violent content, it won't be for everyone.

I loved it. I'm sad to see it go

bingoitsadingo · 17/05/2019 10:48

Yes, watch it. The first few seasons are absolutely brilliant. The later ones (especially this last one) are less so, but I don't regret watching it at all.

If you've got time on your hands, the books are great too.

NCforthisone19 · 17/05/2019 10:49

Do it! Even if the last episode is as crap as the leaks suggest, the rest is great.

ThatCurlyGirl · 17/05/2019 10:51

Are there lots of sexual attack scenes?

I'm gutted I can't read the books instead but damaged my eye in the crash so can't read at the moment, it seems to bring on seizures ugh!

Words jump around the page but TV seems fine though.

Go for it. Prepare yourself for a sharp decline in writing quality around season 6 when their source material ran out.

Still lots of great stuff there. Brilliant characterisation, great acting, awesome battle sequences.

And I’m not disappointed in the general direction the end is taking. The pacing and build up could have been better though.

Jeds55 · 17/05/2019 10:52

My partner and I have just started watching it - just finished Season 1. Go for it, it's one of those rare series that we are both enjoying (so far).
Wishing you a speedy recovery (and please don't post any spoilers, we have to avoid 8 series of them!) Shock

Merchant · 17/05/2019 10:52

I’ve just started it! Loving it! Just at the end of season 1. Wow!!!

HappyPunky · 17/05/2019 10:55

Seasons 1-7 are on now tv for another two weeks so it's a lot to get through. You need to sign up asap, they have free trials.

It's very violent and there are rape scenes in it but there are some strong female characters.

Upanddownandroundagain · 17/05/2019 10:57

Go for it. Yes there’s nudity and sexual elements, more so at the start than later. It took me a couple of goes to get into it then I became a superfan.

HBStowe · 17/05/2019 10:58

I found it too gory and rapey for me, but I know how much others love it so it’s probably worth giving it a shot!

Summerorjustmaybe · 17/05/2019 10:59

Imo it is never too late to indulge on a bit /a lot - of Jon Snow...

ILiveInSalemsLot · 17/05/2019 11:00

I had this same idea op so got NowTv and now have til the end of the month to binge watch about 70 episodes as that’s when they’re taking it off (as I understand) I can’t binge to that extent so I’m very sad Sad

mummydummyabc · 17/05/2019 11:05

I did the same with Breaking Bad when it came close to the final. Totally binged it and caught up just in time! I would totally recommend Game of Thrones.... go for it!

kaytee87 · 17/05/2019 11:07

It's brilliant.

Tbh I'm always slightly disappointed in the last episode of any show I've loved. It's part of being disappointed that it's over I think.

Shit I haven't done Breaking Bad either.

I worked so much before the accident I never had time to invest in a series in case I got hooked and it distracted me from getting everything done Blush

Do it. When it first started I too was all sneery about the tits but then I gave it another go. The hedonism of the first few seasons exists for a reason. Yes it's violent, yes that includes sexual violence, but it's also really good. We'll just ignore the woeful past couple of weeks! Give it a go, it's epic.

Kim82 · 17/05/2019 11:23

Yes do it! I caved and started watching it 2 weeks ago. I’m now on series 5 so have definitely been doing some binge watching. I thought it wasn’t something that I would enjoy but I’m loving it, as is dh.

ThatCurlyGirl · 17/05/2019 11:24

Oh I love tits! And dragons. And kit.

Sex scenes not a problem at all Winkjust triggering if sexual violence that's all so a bit mindful of that.

I’ve read the books and watched up to season 3. I’m going to watch the last episode, as I’m not confident GRRM is ever going to get round to finishing the books...

Purplelion · 17/05/2019 13:18

Yep do it! OH and I started watching it 3 weeks ago (On Sky) and are halfway through season 6!
As PP have said, there is a lot of sex (Less so as it gets further on) And strong female characters.

LRTR28 · 17/05/2019 13:22

I've just started it episode 2 of season 1 so cant cant comment really but so far so good

FissionChips · 17/05/2019 13:25

The ending is absolutely shit, worse than how Battlestar Galactica ended.

RedRiverShore · 17/05/2019 13:27

I would, I often watch things years after everyone else, I’m just coming to the end of The West Wing now, I think it finished about 12 years ago Grin

5foot5 · 17/05/2019 13:29

The ending is absolutely shit,

a) It hasn't ended yet - there is still a last episode to go and I don't see how you can predict what will happen

b) I disagree any way. I think this series has been excellent and my reaction to episode 5 was "Wow! OMG!" I honestly cannot see why there is so much anger. Puts ne in mind of all those Harry otter fans outraged that he didn't end up with Hermione.
