To not like breakfast foods?

skybluee · 12/05/2019 11:09

All my life I've tried to like breakfast foods, traditional ones like cereal and toast. But I just don't like them very much at all.

AIBU to just forget the whole idea and have salad for breakfast instead? Or to make a little selection of cheese, tomatoes, parsley, leaves and anything I fancy or something like tabbouleh or soup? I just am not very keen on cereals. The weird thing is I don't mind them at other times of day, it's just the morning.

I don't think it's the law that you have to eat cereal for breakfast. Most commercially produced breakfast cereals are rubbish anyway.

Eat whatever you want, the cereal police won't come for you.

ChodeofChodeHall · 12/05/2019 11:13

I never eat cereal or toast for breakfast, either. I'm more of a yoghurt and fruit kind of person. No-one seems to mind or care.

MrsOaf · 12/05/2019 11:17

YANBU

Greek yoghurt, blueberries & flaked almonds or occasionally a pastry here

Cereals and toast are meh & a full English is ok late morning onwards but couldn’t eat one first thing.

Have whatever you fancy Smile

I sometimes have a ham or cheese sandwich for breakfast. I'm not keen on breakfast foods either. Tbh ham, cheese, eggs, salad veg, breads, crackers etc are always part of a continental hotel buffet so what's the difference?

Ex28 · 12/05/2019 11:20

I have fruit or an omelette. I don’t mind cereal and toast during the day but feel sick if I eat them in the morning. Weird.

RevealTheLegend · 12/05/2019 11:22

If you google breakfast around the world, it is fascinating what everyone else thinks is morning food.

This list is brilliant en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakfast

My absolute favourite is the German style breakfast of a spread of cold meats, cheeses bread and hardboiled eggs.

But I’m also partial to,the savoury rice soup you get in Thailand.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 12/05/2019 11:30

Well toast and cereals are only two of the things seen as breakfast foods in the uk, there is plenty more, eggs, sausages, bacon, porriage (but i guess this might come under cereals) you don't have to eat cereal and toast.

All that said, breakfast foods around the world are seen as different things

In europe, hot chocolate is seen as a breakfast drink rather than the bedtime one its seen as in the UK,

In america a breakfast might be buscits and gravy (scones and milk sauce) or pancakes and bacon and syrup/blueburries

In india it might be Indian tofu scramble, lentils, veggie sausage and banana pepper toast with rosemary roasted potatoes.

In japan it might Tofu with fish and rice soaked in soy sauce.

In turkey it might be few varieties of cheese, butter, olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, jam, honey, and spicy meat.

In germany it might Wursts, local cheeses, and freshly baked bread, all washed back with a strong coffee

Basically eat what you like for breakfast, all food is breakfast food somewhere. If you don't like toast and cereals you really don't have to eat them.

You seem to have quite a narrow view of what your allowed to eat at breakfast

YorkshireBelle2019 · 12/05/2019 11:31

Loads of other cultures don't really have these specific blandish breakfast foods, just leftovers or savoury stuff. Definitely no reason you should stick to them.

YorkshireBelle2019 · 12/05/2019 11:32

Cross post, had it open ages!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 12/05/2019 11:34

reveal yes a german breakfast is lovely or a turkish one.

Although i quite like melon for breakfast too when i've been on holiday

LiliesAndChocolate · 12/05/2019 11:36

I eat soups for breakfast several days per week. My favourite is carrot -pumpkin. Go for non breakfast food but try not to have processed meat if you are going to have it again during the day.

Whattodo13333 · 12/05/2019 11:50

I often have leftovers or a jacket spud for breakfast! Xxxx

NannyRed · 12/05/2019 11:55

I enjoy grapefruit or yogurt for breakfast. I didn’t realise I needed someone else’s permission to eat something other than a traditional fried breakfast or cereal!
In India they enjoy curry for breakfast. Eat what you like, you are an adult.

zingally · 12/05/2019 11:56

Either this is a thinly veiled humble-brag, or this woman has the most serious case of "first world problem" I've ever encountered.

My dear, you can have whatever the bleep you like for breakfast. Why are you even asking?

sashh · 12/05/2019 12:02

I don't eat cereal, occasionally I will have porridge but mostly ham, bread and or eggs.

Occasionally I will do Nasi Goreng if I have left over rice and I have been known to make kedgeree.

newjobnerves · 12/05/2019 12:02

VU. I could base my whole diet around breakfast foods.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 12/05/2019 12:05

I usually have yoghurt and fruit. Don’t really care for cereal or toast and I hate eggs. But if we have leftovers or soup on the go I might have that instead. Just please yourself, OP! One of the great joys of adulthood. Grin

formerbabe · 12/05/2019 12:07

I'm like you. I hate cereal and toast...both taste like cardboard to me. I'd happily eat cold meats or curry instead...yum!

RandomMess · 12/05/2019 12:48

I don't want food in the morning full stop!! Kellogg's peddled the whole life about needing to it anyway 🤷🏽‍♀️

I usually feel hungry about 11am and tend to have a 2-3 course lunch instead.

Weekends usually poached eggs often with spinach and mushrooms between 10:30 - 12:30.

lazylinguist · 12/05/2019 12:51

YANBU. Much better for you anyway. Most breakfast food is sugary stodge. I wish I didn't like it, and try hard to resist it.

HermioneWeasley · 12/05/2019 12:53

This thread is OP saying she doesn't like breakfast foods

And people replying with "I have x breakfast food"

Have what you want OP, I like salad with hardboiled egg for breakfast.

Iwantacookie · 12/05/2019 13:01

I'm the same op. I can however manage to scoff loads of mini pastries every morning which probably isn't that healthy.

Aprillygirl · 12/05/2019 13:03

They say you should breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper so why not have a curry for breakfast, an omelette for lunch and your bowl of cereal for dinner? As long as you're getting all you daily nutrients why does it matter what time of day you eat what?

donquixotedelamancha · 12/05/2019 13:05
