To not like breakfast foods?

skybluee · 12/05/2019 11:09

All my life I've tried to like breakfast foods, traditional ones like cereal and toast. But I just don't like them very much at all.

AIBU to just forget the whole idea and have salad for breakfast instead? Or to make a little selection of cheese, tomatoes, parsley, leaves and anything I fancy or something like tabbouleh or soup? I just am not very keen on cereals. The weird thing is I don't mind them at other times of day, it's just the morning.

My favourite breakfast food is pancakes. Love them with maple syrup and bacon or yogurt and berries.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 12/05/2019 13:07

I never eat cereal for breakfast

Here we have pancakes, croissants, waffles, chopped up fruit, yogurts , scrambled eggs, cheese , cold meats

I do like a bowl of cereal in the evening though !

GirlFliesHome · 12/05/2019 13:09

I don't eat 'breakfast foods'either. I usually make myself a sandwich to take to work that I then eat followed by yoghurt. Weekdays are always leftovers- this morning I had leftover roast pork, apple sauce and cauliflower cheese. I do not have a sweet tooth.

GirlFliesHome · 12/05/2019 13:12

When I was holidaying in Israel years ago I used to love their 'breakfast salad' of cucumbers, tomatoes and radishes with warmed pita bread. Bliss.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 12/05/2019 13:18

Eat whatever you want!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 12/05/2019 13:22

Are you actually hungry at breakfast time? Like a pp I rarely eat before 11.30am so I eat a 2 course brunch any time from then up to about 1pm. I honestly can't remember the last time I ate a bowl of cereal - it's probably about 10 years ago.

NoSauce · 12/05/2019 13:22

Just eat what you fancy! There’s no law too say you have to eat toast or cornflakes.

skybluee · 12/05/2019 13:24

Wow zing that's really horrible. You have zero idea of what I've been going through. Maybe see my other thread in mental health about having been locked in a house last year and trying to deal with the anniversary? Honestly that is it, I'm done with mumsnet. I posted what I thought was a lighthearted thread to try and have a nice conversation. The amount of cruel replies I've seen on here - I don't mean to me, I mean to oytherpeople, such as the lady who was upset by missing the news the consultant gave her on the phone is staggering.

Maybe think before you are so horrible.

I was trying to take my mind off things.

If you think my problems are first world you have no idea. Im facing homelessness for one. I was raped repeatedly for most of last year. Yes how dare I talk about breakfast foods.

I was asking to create conversation. Maybe try not being such a nasty human being. Why the vitriol? There is honestly something seriously wrong with you to post a reply like that. Seriously wrong. Why post something like that? You nasty, nasty person. Thanks for seeing me off the site. I can't take reading stuff like this any morewhen all I'm doing is trying to be positive. Have athink about your life and why you would respond like that to someone who is desparetely trying their best amongst circumstances that most people in their little bubbles probably have zero idea ever exist.

OP you posted in Aibu. People aren’t to know that you’ve been suffering with your mental health are they? I’m sorry you have though. Take care of yourself Flowers

NannyRed · 12/05/2019 13:32

My dear, you can have whatever the bleep you like for breakfast. Why are you even asking?
Hallelujah! At least @zingally gets it.

Not sure why people are so horrid in a lighthearted topic? I would hate these boards to just be serious non ‘first world’ problems. Lighthearted stuff is my favourite to read! Escapism.

Also I really wanted some breakfast ideas!!

NoSauce · 12/05/2019 13:40

Not helpful NannyRed at all. You can see the OP is in a bad place. I know she posted in AIBU and that nobody knows her history but don’t kick a dog when it’s down ffs.

pigsDOfly · 12/05/2019 13:41

Oh dear.

YouBumder · 12/05/2019 13:46

YANBU. I like cheeses and cold meats for breakfast sometimes. Not sure I’d eat soup though but that’s largely because I prefer to wait til later in the day before spilling food down myself ;)

Grotesque · 12/05/2019 13:58

I never eat cereal or toast for breakfast! I hate stupid food rules. I just have whatever I want. This morning I had a leftover taco. Yesterday I had some cheese & onion bread with tomato chutney. I have some cauliflower soup in the freezer, I might defrost it & have it for tomorrows breakfast.

RattyTat · 12/05/2019 14:05

Who pissed in your cornflakes, people? There's no need to be so nasty. The OP is clearly just making conversation on a light hearted topic as hundreds do on MN every day. And I have seen people say on here that they shouldn't give their kids a sandwich or whatever because it isn't a "breakfast food."

I do like most traditional breakfast foods but not at breakfast time. They're much more appealing for lunch and dinner. I don't eat breakfast as I can't look at food before 12 or later but if I did eat it The though of a fried rice or noodle dish seems somehow much more appealing than waffles and scrambled eggs.

cushioncovers · 12/05/2019 14:16

I spent years trying to find a breakfast cereal that I liked because I was brought up to eat cereal or toast for breakfast with an occasional cooked breakfast thrown in on a weekend but then as I got older I realised that actually I can eat what the heck Iwant for breakfast. I rarely eat cereal now

my2bundles · 12/05/2019 14:21

Completely up to you what you eat. My youngest obviously didn't get tbe breakfast memo as he just wants either a ham toasties or Tuna sandwich for breakfast 😂 as long as he is fed it's no one's business what he has.

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 12/05/2019 15:02

OP sorry for what you've been through. (I get it, I was raped regularly from age 13 to age 23). But if you're feeling that fragile aibu maybe isn't the place right now. I don't think the poster you focussed on said anything ridiculously out of order, and I wouldn't expect posters to advance search you prior to posting.

phoenixrosehere · 12/05/2019 15:09

n america a breakfast might be buscits and gravy (scones and milk sauce

Scones and American biscuits are not the same thing. It’s the closest equivalent but they are completely different taste and texture. What is milk sauce? American gravy will either be brown like the ones you can make from a tin or white with bits of sausage depending on the region.

RattyTat · 12/05/2019 15:12

What is the texture of biscuits like? I've always wondered because they look so much like scones.

phoenixrosehere · 12/05/2019 15:18

I’m not a fan of cereal either. Most of it is nothing but sugar anyway. My breakfast is often close to lunchtime. I usually eat some type of leftovers from the previous day, scrambled eggs on toast, or an egg sandwich. Sometimes, I’ll have a craving for French Toast or pancakes.

YesQueen · 12/05/2019 15:18

Eat whatever you fancy Smile
I've had tomato soup with cheese on toast
Feta salad
Cottage pie and veg BlushGrin

phoenixrosehere · 12/05/2019 15:23

@RattyTat

It can vary, but they can be flaky, like a croissant or doughy like a Krispy Creme Doughnuts. They’re not as crumbly as scone and have more of a buttery flavour. They’re more savoury for the most part, but you can get sweetened options, like cinnamon raisin or honey butter.
