To not like breakfast foods?

skybluee · 12/05/2019 11:09

All my life I've tried to like breakfast foods, traditional ones like cereal and toast. But I just don't like them very much at all.

AIBU to just forget the whole idea and have salad for breakfast instead? Or to make a little selection of cheese, tomatoes, parsley, leaves and anything I fancy or something like tabbouleh or soup? I just am not very keen on cereals. The weird thing is I don't mind them at other times of day, it's just the morning.

I appolgise phoniex
On buscuits/scones i was going on an american teenagers twitter who had a rant about things she "hated" about the uk, it was full of stuff like how do you measure things without cups (geez i don't know these rhinfs called ermm scales) and why are you allowed to drink at 18, so possiably not one of the most reliable sources but one of the most memerable rants to me was "what the hell are scones they are called fucking biscuits" prompted by this i looked up biscuit and gravy reciepes to give myself slightly more knowledge than her and came across one on the BBC site which statated that gravy was a white milk sauce

Breakfast is my favourite meal time but then I start the day with
Protein shake (salted caramel) mixed with hazelnut milk or cashew milk which is delicious

Or

oatmeal with banana, cashew butter and dates.

I always have 1 egg and 1 egg white on whole meal pitta too and this generally keeps me full until late afternoon/early dinner.

Mortgages · 12/05/2019 15:28

I’ll throw in some spinach/onions/salmon to the egg at the weekend or avocado.

RattyTat · 12/05/2019 15:29

Thank you PhoenixRoseHere. I really want to try one now.

EdWinchester · 12/05/2019 15:32

Meh. Have whatever the heck you want for breakfast.

I don't eat it as I like to fast for 16 hours, but if I did, I couldn't stomach cereal. Milk - bleurgh.

woodcutbirds · 12/05/2019 15:33

In Japan we had seaweed soup and sticky rice for breakfast with pickled veg.
Eat what you like, when you like.

MulticolourMophead · 12/05/2019 15:39

Apparently, cornflakes were invented to prevent masturbation Grin

@skybluee I do come across many people hung up on "proper" breakfast foods, but really, have what works for you. I like savoury stuff for breakfast and often have ham on toast, but your salad/tabbouleh idea would certainly work for me.

And I saw your latest post, I hope you're getting the help you need and that your situation can be resolved with the best possible outcome Thanks

loveonthewall · 12/05/2019 15:40

I can't stomach anything sweet for breakfast. Poached eggs and a slice of whole meal, ready in the time it takes your morning brew to be ready

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 12/05/2019 15:41

UK breakfast food is very bland.

I always have a Turkish breakfast (variety) and have done so for the last 22 years

To not like breakfast foods?
HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 12/05/2019 15:42

Well most days today I had a bacon sandwich as Ds1 had a football game Middlesbrough at 9am

MulticolourMophead · 12/05/2019 15:47

I would mind a Turkish breakfast like that, but weekdays I leave the house at 7am. I tend to have ham on toast at work, eating as I go through emails. Our office is great like that.

Weekends I get a cooked breakfast on Saturdays when I meet friends at a local cafe at about 10am. Sunday also tends to be brunch, toasted sarnie maybe. I'll try the Turkish style next time I'm off.

BorisBadunov · 12/05/2019 15:51

Best drip feed ever!

OP: “AIBU not to like cereals?”
MN “of course not, why do you ask?”
OP: “you guys are horrible, I spent the last year in a hostage situation and am traumatised. Did you not get that from my OP?”

BorisBadunov · 12/05/2019 15:54

Seriously OP, I hate breakfast foods too. So I use breakfast to have loads of fruit and veg, and a little cheese. Like a Turkish breakfast but without bread.

You can’t blame posters for not knowing about your posting history. Take care of yourself and don’t post in AIBU anymore.

CaptainPovey · 12/05/2019 15:57

I agree. Cereal/porridge is shit

I like ham/cheese/eggs for breakfast

None of that sweet crap

Two4Joy · 12/05/2019 15:58

I often have salad for breakfast! Sometimes hummus and carrots. It's much better for you than most breakfast foods. It does upset a lot of people though!

It's weird because if I had toast with marmalade for lunch I'm sure people would comment that it was unhealthy...

CaptainPovey · 12/05/2019 16:07

Also cold cold curry/chinese/pi

Food is food. There should be no rules

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 12/05/2019 16:20

@MulticolourMophead

I’m the same, however I make it the night before (same with lunch) or 2-3 days in advance.

I honestly feel better for it, went on holiday recently and the only options were greasy food and bread and filling, I felt bloated, tired and just meh.

On coming back home eating normally, I felt my normal self.

JustDanceAddict · 12/05/2019 16:23

have Yoghurt & fruit with some nuts instead.
Eggs, etc.

JingsMahBucket · 12/05/2019 16:28

@BorisBadunov her rightful point is that people posting in AIBU shouldn’t get torn to shreds for posting something entirely freaking innocuous like breakfast meals. The nastiness in AIBU has ratcheted up massively in last year or so and MNHQ don’t seem to be doing much about it.

MulticolourMophead · 12/05/2019 16:52

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend might try your ideas, see how it goes.

Strugglingtodomybest · 12/05/2019 16:56

You can eat what you want for breakfast OP. I never have cereal, and only eat toast if it's part of egg and beans on toast (my current favourite).

Could you ask for this thread to be moved to Chat if it's a chat about breakfast foods that you're after?

lilabet2 · 12/05/2019 16:57

If you are including things like waffles, pancakes, pain au chocolat and croissants then yes YABVVU but if not then no YANBU!

My favourites include:

  • Waffles with toffee sauce and whipped cream
  • Warm croissants
  • Pancakes with golden syrup
  • Fruit with yoghurt and a small piece of madeira cake
  • Crumpets with peanut butter and banana
BathshebaKnickerStickers · 12/05/2019 17:01

Once when I was 9 I had a cold tin of garden peas for my breakfast. The monologue in my head whilst doing this was me being interviewed by the radio about being 9 and having a tin of peas for my breakfast.

I’m 48 now and I remember this in great detail

managedmis · 12/05/2019 17:01

Gotta admit it's been a bit nasty on here this week. I posted a comment yesterday, it was literally 'please give us your daily food diary' to someone who asked about their kids diet and I get told to sod off and a load of abuse?

Wtaf.

Don't take any notice of zing, op.

GirlFliesHome · 12/05/2019 17:19

EdWinchester apropos... fasting for 16 hours. Why, is it for weightloss weight maintenance? How does it work timewise- i.e.when do you eat etc. I am very interested...
