To ask for help in finding out why my bathroom smells like weed??

Every morning for about 3 weeks now I've woken up and our en suite bathroom stinks of unsmoked weed. Neither me or my husband smoke it, we are detached far away from neighbours and I've tried everything to get rid of it. It's the only bathroom in the house that smells.

I've tried:
-thought it might be the bath mat so I washed it and all the towels on a 90 C wash
-possibly my wee - we have a 3 month old and it's only me and him in the bedroom at the moment so overnight I don't flush the toilet. Tried using a different bathroom overnight and it made no difference
-cleaned it from top to bottom - we do have a slow running shower drain that needs some unblocker shoved down it but haven't got around to it yet.

• we have horrible scented toilet paper at the moment but it isn't that.

I'm at a loss! And it's driving us mad. It's only in the morning that it smells.

Anyone got any genius ideas?! I'll be forever grateful if someone can help me sort this out!

I spent some time in uni accomodation and had this i my bathroom (studio so just me) the management couldn't find any weed.

This was bathroom with no windows and off my room so the only way to get the smell in was through the air vent.

This was also in the morning.

I never did solve it but the person who said the extractor fan gets my vote.

Sniff the light fitting too (when switched on).... We had this awful smell like you describe in our old house in the spare room. I was convinced the cat had either done a dump and it was fermenting, or had killed a mouse in there. I got so stressed, we spend an entire weekend dismantling the furniture and taking everything out, replacing the underlay and carpets, repainting etc thinking this would be the end of the smell... Next day it was back with a passion. One day the lightbulb went and I noticed the smell went too (hallelujah!), but when I got round to changing the bulb, as soon as I switched it on to check it, the smell instantly returned! I sniffed the light fitting and sure enough the smell was coming from there... The metal ring around the shade was heating up and making the god awful stench! Was so happy we finally found it, and then it all made perfect sense that the smell had started when we put the new light in there, just never put two and two together. It was like some reaction the metal had to the heat from the bulb.

We had this problem in our living room for a while. Had a rather heated conversation with Dh during which we both accused the other of illicit pot smoking habit..
Transpired the friggin radiator was leaking behind the sofa an carpet/floor was mouldy.
I would check v thoroughly for damp.

We had this in an en-suite once. Turned out the toilet was dripping behind the bit where they'd boxed it in and there was an absolutely enormous mushroom in there

However coffee - in particular freshly ground from bean coffee - can chime with the smell of weed. If you had never smelt weed, you wouldn't notice. But once you know what weed smells like, you can find yourself smelling it everywhere. Especially in town . Mind you, that could also be because there's a lot being smoked ....

In general, the biggest source of smell from cannabis is terpenes. Huge organic molecules that probably evolved especially to smell. Their production is associated with the trichomes on the (female) cannabis plant so tend to be more concentrated the stronger the strain that's being grown.

The smell of dried, ground cannabis is markedly different to fresh growing cannabis. In between you get quite whiffy greeny-dampy smell.

All of which said, the local farmers have been muck spreading this past week, and I know which smell I'd rather relax outside to.

Additionally some incense mixtures can carry a hint of weed if they have the right blend of terpenes. As anyone from the 60s should recall .

We had a hotel room recently that stank of weed just like you describe, we looked at the ceiling and there was a leak coming through and that was causing the smell it was disgusting.

Neither of us smoke. Husband used to but I told him I'd leave with the baby if he didn't stop. I believe that he doesn't have a hidden stash.

Damp can smell of weed, our old rental bathroom did and it was a nightmare. Dehumidifier and a nice reed diffuser were the answer!

My son’s morning nappy (we used cloth nappies so no chemicals to cover the smell) used to stink of weed, it was just a nights worth of wee that had become concentrated as cloth nappies let some of the liquid evaporate. Have you scrubbed the floor and walls round the toilet? Could there be urine that’s missed the toilet and dried on somewhere?

Damp & mould definately smell of weed, we had the problem in our spare bedroom, I initially thought it was our very sensible respectable neighbour but it turned out to be damp in the chimney breast caused bumpy rain getting in.

We had a stink in the downstairs loo - turned out that slugs had gotten into the shared drain outside and died ( pretty sure one of the neighbours had poisoned them) - they decomposed and the smell was horrific 🤮🤮🤢

Fuck off. How could you possibly know enough about this relationship to make that judgment? Did it even occur to you that there’s a person on the other side of the screen who could be hurt by you inventing a fantasy scenario and then berating her for how she acted in your imagination?!

OP - am I right that the bathroom doesn’t have a window? If so, my money would be on damp. I would get your extractor fans and your drains checked out to see if that’s what is causing the damp.

Do you have a septic tank? I do and find my loo often smells of weed!

I've got husband to check the extractor today at some point and we will get industrial strength drain ckraber as well. Hopefully something works because it stinks again this morning .

Is there any peppermint tea/bags in the vicinity? Pot pourri that might have peppermint in it?

Sometimes stale peppermint tea reminds me of weed.

@MidLife yes we do but we've been here 2 years and it's only become a problem in the last few weeks. Plus it's only one toilet and when we do have a problem with the tank all the shower drains and sinks smell.

Any new rubber items? When I got new wellies last winter they smelt awfully like weed. It took me ages to work out why I could smell it all the time when I took the dog for a walk!! DH got some really cheap shoes after being out of work for a while, just to tide him over until his first pay, and within days, they stank of it. He was accusing everyone of smoking until realising it was him and binning the shoes.
