To ask for help in finding out why my bathroom smells like weed??

Every morning for about 3 weeks now I've woken up and our en suite bathroom stinks of unsmoked weed. Neither me or my husband smoke it, we are detached far away from neighbours and I've tried everything to get rid of it. It's the only bathroom in the house that smells.

I've tried:
-thought it might be the bath mat so I washed it and all the towels on a 90 C wash
-possibly my wee - we have a 3 month old and it's only me and him in the bedroom at the moment so overnight I don't flush the toilet. Tried using a different bathroom overnight and it made no difference
-cleaned it from top to bottom - we do have a slow running shower drain that needs some unblocker shoved down it but haven't got around to it yet.

• we have horrible scented toilet paper at the moment but it isn't that.

I'm at a loss! And it's driving us mad. It's only in the morning that it smells.

Anyone got any genius ideas?! I'll be forever grateful if someone can help me sort this out!

My money is on the drain. Growing up my parents bathroom used to smell like weed due to problems with drains. Unblock the drains and see what happens?

Ask DH, you threatened to leave and so now he does it in secret. If you hadn’t disclosed that information I’d be saying he’s got a stash he doesn’t need want you to know about. It’s just too much of a coincidence.

Damp can often smell like weed, I had this problem when I was a student

If you threatened to leave with the baby and you say you have a three month old, I’d put money in him having a secret stash. It’s really hard to give up. I know people who have carried on in the face of an ultimatum.

My DH stopped 13 years ago. He STILL goes on about how much he loved (and misses) it!

My shower curtain smells like that when needing a wash.
We also get the fumes from next door through our electrics!

It’s a very distinctive smell, and there’s nothing else that smells like it.

Drains

Intriguing, the accessible shower at my gym smells of weed too! (Sorry, no help!)

Sounds like damp. With no window, I'd leave door open all night.

I would like to know the answer if you get to it! I sometimes have the same problem, but in DS's room (he is 7, so definitely not him).
My 2 theories are that it could be
A) a plant (not weed) that grows close to his window
B) A foam mattress in the pull out bed that is never used, but doesn't seem to smell if you lie on it

No he's not stupid enough to do that.

Have you had the lid off the cistern? Hoovered under the toilets u bend? Popped the panel off the bath/shower?.

Same issue here in our bedroom. V small room. Amazing insulation. We now have some mold around the window d'érable on the inside. DH doesn't like to sleep with the window open. We produce a lot of water vapor I think therefor are creating damp. Bats seem like another string contender from other threads on here.

He might not be stupid but he is going through the change and stress of a three month old. You might be underestimating the risks people would take if they’re addicting to using something as a coping mechanism. Having said that there would surely be better places to smoke it.

The only other possibility I can think of is mould and damp, have it checked.

I have the same thing in my house and none of us have ever or would ever smoke weed , never even smoked. It's not always but just sometimes I come upstairs and can smell it , no sign of damp /mould , brand new bathroom only 8 months old but the suite isn't new so my thinking it the toilet ? Good luck with finding out!

Empty bottles of Corona and beer pump line cleaner both smell like it. Spent hours cleaning the bins one time thinking a customer had left a spliff in one of them to be told someone was cleaning the lines 😳

I reckon it's the shower drain because it starts to smell overnight and we only use it in the mornings so the smell probably gets a washed away. Will see if I can get Mr muscle ( not in the uk).

Timings seem right as well.

Any skunks your way? Coffee grounds? Both smell strongly of weed.

Just had a shower and sure enough the smell has gone!

Excellent news! At least you know the source. at posters who were convinced your DH was lying.

@winterwife - Yes! Empty bottles of lager have a smell that is massively reminiscent of fresh weed! I thought I was the only person who thought that!

Deffo sounds like our issue I posted about above Op, there’s a thing in the shower that stops it smelling, if it’s been plunged the plastic thing could have dislodged..... deffo take it apart. We found mr muscle was only a temp solution

We have this issue too - absolutely no way it's my partner, although I did suspect our elderly neighbour for awhile 😬 I think it's a combo of damp & drains. I haven't worked out a way to completely fix it yet. Update if you do!

Any new rubber items? When I got new wellies last winter they smelt awfully like weed. It took me ages to work out why I could smell it all the time when I took the dog for a walk!!

If it is your husband, he's pretty dense for keeping doing it in the same place when you've caught on to it and talked about it with him.
