Don't want to make this a TAAT, so I'll just say I have enjoyed everyone's observations on the royal family and it's made a boring weekend go much quicker Grin

I also remember the discussion about the RF being deeply worried and disproving of Diana’s relationship with Dodi and them not wanting her having an inter-racial child. I’ve been told by someone who was likely to know that she was pregnant at the time but it was withheld from being make public. There were definitely a lot of rumours about her being pregnant too.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 29/04/2019 00:12

Going back to Diana I wonder if she had lived how she would have coped with her fame fading, she was the most famous woman on the planet, the attention she received unprecedented, a true global mega star, as much as she claimed to hate it I also think she would really have struggled without it, unless I’ve got it wrong and her mega fame would have continued??

AuldJosey · 29/04/2019 00:14

@MarkleSparkle Yes! I remember that photo!

Can't believe the Queen indulged her lol.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/04/2019 00:16

I just remembered - someone my DD worked with at the time knew a Doctor who was with her team at the time of her death - he said she was pregnant Hmm

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/04/2019 00:16

DH not DD I'm not that ancient Grin

To get back to history: one of the many sad and astonishing things about WW1 is that George 5th, the Kaiser and the Tsar were all first cousins and had had many happy summers together before their countries were at war.

True. Despite that, George V refused to allow the Tsar and his family to seek refuge in the UK in 1917 (he withdrew an offer he'd originally made) and they were all killed.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/04/2019 00:20

@NigellaAwesome

Anne is actually younger than Charles, who is the Queen's eldest child.

The resemblance between them was striking.

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 29/04/2019 00:20

Thanks for that!
Poor Margaret! She should have just married him. Sod the lot of them

She had the option to as far as I am aware but by doing so she would have had to give up her place in the succession and she didn’t want to.

AuldJosey · 29/04/2019 00:21

@ByeClaire Yes, that article is bringing it all back to me now. But I distinctly remember maybe the week before her death, newspapers discussing how appalling it would be for the RF if she were to become pregnant - I recall all sorts of theories on where they would be in line to the throne and such. I wonder..........

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/04/2019 00:22

True. Despite that, George V refused to allow the Tsar and his family to seek refuge in the UK in 1917 (he withdrew an offer he'd originally made) and they were all killed.

I was just going to post something similar. It was a decision that condemned the entire Romanov family to death. And George V would have known that.

ByeClaire · 29/04/2019 00:26

@AuldJosey yes I remember the speculation pre-death too, and I also wondered. It was I think the main reason for the conspiracy theory. Not just for racial reasons but because, as a PP said, of the link to Al Fayed.

AuldJosey · 29/04/2019 00:27

It's all sorts of madness/different to kill off your cousins for the sake of your country - especially your childhood friends.
I guess that's why we'll never understand what a burden it is to be royal. They don't play by our rules.
I think Diana was different, and was human and didn't play ball. MM, seems similar, so I suspect she is going to fight a losing battle.

While Kate may be accepted by the Turnip Toffs, I suspect Meghan will feel a little out of her depth.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/04/2019 00:27

Or were they all killed?
Another Royal conspiracy theory

ByeClaire · 29/04/2019 00:29

@MyBlueMoonbeam sorry who do you mean by ‘alll’?

AuldJosey · 29/04/2019 00:29

What do you mean by 'the link to Al-Fayed'? Might be being a bit dim here, but nothing new there!

Daisypie · 29/04/2019 00:29

Yes, re Diana, there was apparently establishment horror that William and Harry might have an Egyptian half sibling.
I think Diana did not take the relationship seriously and I think she died because she did not wear her seatbelt.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/04/2019 00:34

It was a joke Smile there have been quite a few people in the past claiming to be Romanov children who survived the assassinations.
DNA evidence has disproved their claims.

Whizzler · 29/04/2019 00:34

I definitely think Diana's mega-fame would have continued. She was such an established star at that stage and I can't imagine it would have dimmed much. Kind of like Liz Hurley ^ 10.

ByeClaire · 29/04/2019 00:35

I meant that as a PP said, the RF/establishment’s horror at Diana having Dodi’s child was not just because he wasn’t white, but also because he was his father’s son and his father apparently had criminal links/dodgy skeletons/practices.

ByeClaire · 29/04/2019 00:36

Oh Moonbeam I thought you were talking about Diana and Dodi being killed, which is why I didn’t get the reference to ‘all’.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/04/2019 00:39

What do you mean by 'the link to Al-Fayed'?

I hasten to add I'm speculating here, because I can't actually remember who said what where, and I wasn't a massive Royal watcher, but Al Fayed senior was definitely seen as a bit unsavoury, not above exploiting his connections.

AuldJosey · 29/04/2019 00:40

I don't buy the conspiracy theories either. Dodi's father paid millions in getting it investigated, all to reveal nothing. Haven't heard of him since actually. Was Dodi his only son?

I wonder why there was pregnancy speculation around this relationship? Could she have known and told someone? Given that Haznat Khan seemed to overlap a little with her relationship with Dodi, if she was pregnant, who was the Baby Daddy?

Silly questions to ask when we'll never know. I just feel she was a tortured soul and had a chance at a second life and tragically was killed that horrible night.

RubberTreePlant · 29/04/2019 00:42

Anne is still with us' makes it sounds like she's on a ventilator!

Sorry too - this thread is fast moving so it gets confusing sometimes Grin
