To find the royal family fascinating?

Don't want to make this a TAAT, so I'll just say I have enjoyed everyone's observations on the royal family and it's made a boring weekend go much quicker Grin

@BishopBrennansArse yes, I thought so too. He had a difficult childhood and was really quite a sad little boy. I think he did love the POW, and needed her to love him.

Iamnotagoddess · 28/04/2019 23:17

Paul Burrell is a bloody embarrassment.

Who the hell would continually sell out their supposed “closest confidante” tome and time again for 20 years after their death.

Utter bastard.

Diana had terrible taste in men.

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 23:17

I adored Diana. She was such a tragic story but a thoroughly lovely soul. Her life was an utter mess. Heartache after heartbreak. All that remained stable for her were her two boys. It really seemed like she had finally found happiness with Dodi and then wham - DEAD. At 36. I think our 2 duchesses are actually older than she was at her death by now? It's hard for me to grasp because I was in my teens when Diana died but she was always front page of the Sunday world (only newspaper bought) throughout my lifetime, so it seemed like she should be much older.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/04/2019 23:19

Hey, seems William's done it too ...

To find the royal family fascinating?
Iamnotagoddess · 28/04/2019 23:19

@Dongdingdong

We aren’t being serious.

Iamnotagoddess · 28/04/2019 23:20

@AuldJosey

My first baby was due the day of her funeral.

Fortunately he was late, I would have never forgiven him if I had missed it Grin

BishopBrennansArse · 28/04/2019 23:20

Although my grandad used to work for someone who owned stables where royal polo ponies were kept and not one person in that place had a good word to say about Diana.... however you have to look at the position they came from I suppose, not her 'set' at all was it, the horsey one??

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 23:27

I read through the squidgeygate transcript and couldn't help but feel sad for them that they couldn't be together. He seemed a nice guy and totally into her, she seemed very comfortable with him.

It's just one of those losses that just seem so out of the blue. She could have been happy I think. She had finalised the divorce, seemed happy with Dodi, but then a tragic car accident...

Incidentally, I recall at the time, while conspiracy theories were rife, that there was talk that the RF wouldn't have allowed the future monarch's mother to 'breed' outside the race. That was one of the mad theories given as to why she was popped off.

RubberTreePlant · 28/04/2019 23:29

It really seemed like she had finally found happiness with Dodi

Not to be argumentative, but did it?

I remember it seeming like a bonkers summer fling with someone totally unsuitable. (I suppose as you were a teenager you might have had a different perspective, which is fair enough).

Unsuitable flings can be fun but Diana was too shrewd by then to marry a fling unlike her youngest

LaMarschallin · 28/04/2019 23:29

Smile

Although there were some reports of couples due to get married that day being asked if they were going to cancel the wedding or, at least, have a minute's silence or something.
Bit of a downer.

Iamnotagoddess · 28/04/2019 23:31

I am not a big believer in conspiracies.

I think she got into a car with a drunk driver and had a horrific car accident and died.

God knows what she would say to her son if he has cheated on his wife.

Being a mother was obviously her biggest joy and achievement. I feel sad for her that she didn’t see her boys grow up.

NigellaAwesome · 28/04/2019 23:31

Actually reading that squidgy tape link, and the comment about how Will Carling told her to shave her growler and she did and phoned him back and he boasted to his mates - it makes me feel really sad too. That woman had no real friends, no-one she could trust, and was in an utterly toxic family situation. She clearly had really poor mental health. She was crying out for help, and so many people just abused her. Sad

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 23:31

I vividly remember seeing photos of her and him on a yacht somewhere and she looked happy. Whether he would have been her forever guy, who knows, but she looked happy.

LaMarschallin · 28/04/2019 23:31

AuldJosey

He seemed a nice guy and totally into her

Presumably that was the problem.

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 23:35

I know Nigella. It seems Paul Burrell (as much of an ass as he might be now) might well have been her only rock.

There was never any mention of her own side of the family. I recall being surprised that she had a brother when he spoke at her funeral.
Were her parents alive/together?

RubberTreePlant · 28/04/2019 23:35

The BRF don't murder people for inter-racial shagging. That should be obvious by now.

BishopBrennansArse · 28/04/2019 23:36

I dunno I think for the Fayeds she was all about the cachet, a prize if you like. She would soon have tired of it. Another using her for what they could get.

I think Hasnat Khan could have been the real thing though. The whole summer fling was probably trying to get his attention.

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 23:37

It was the talk at the time. @RubberPlantTree

Whizzler · 28/04/2019 23:38

Were her parents alive/together?

Well that's where it all traces back to. Unhappy marriage, parents divorced, father got custody, mother left to be with other man, father remarried woman they all disliked...

Dongdingdong · 28/04/2019 23:39

We aren’t being serious.

Some people seem to be! Princess Margaret was utterly dreadful, end of.

Whizzler · 28/04/2019 23:39

She really was. Awful cow.

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 23:39

Oh you've just reminded me of some documentary I watched, where apparently Haznat had tried calling her that evening but she didn't hear the call or something. Yes, I suppose he might have been the one for her. In any case 36 is too fucking young to die. Princess or not.

Iamnotagoddess · 28/04/2019 23:40

No her parents divorced and that affected her deeply.

percheron67 · 28/04/2019 23:41

Stone of ……...I hadn't realised that certain members of the RF ad troubles with alcohol - allegedly, so has Camilla. Not sure about that though - she has to make appearances with POW>

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 23:41

Which one is Margaret? One of the Queen's children or the Queen's sister? There's a Princess Anne too, and I'm not sure who she is either.
