That’s freaky, Bitter!!
Years ago I was living in a village with my boyfriend. I had gone out for the evening and a young bloke phoned my (ex-directory number) at around 10.30pm and asked for me by name (I have an uncommon, usually male name). Boyfriend says I’m out and caller asks him to tell me that David Smith called (can’t remember the actual surname now but it was a common one).
When I got in and to bed boyfriend enquiringly asked who David Smith was as he called for me. I hadn’t a clue, so in the morning redialled the last number (it was the nearest town area code) and an older woman answered. She called out for David, saying it was my name and as he got to the phone he didn’t let me say anything, just said straight away, “sorry about last night, I got the wrong number.” I said he asked for me by name, he then said he was trying to call his female friend with the same uncommon, usually male name in a city over an hour away as we apparently had almost the exact same number. I got freaked out and hung up.
If he had a friend with my name, why didn’t he say hi at first before realising it was the wrong one? How did he know it was me?
It’s really bugged me ever since that I never got to the bottom of it. I didn’t know anyone from that town, he sounded quite young and why did he leave his name if a) I didn’t know him and b) if he was going to deny it in the morning?
Another weird incident is I DID have a premonition once. I was working in a cake factory and going to top up my bucket of melted chocolate for decorating. As I walked round the corner to the chocolate vats, I saw the whole area covered with chocolate and it pouring from the tap. Someone was bent over trying to fit the tap back on.
In an instant the whole scene vanished, it was the most bizarre experience ever. I laughed to myself and thought how cool that would be, bent down to turn the tap on to fill my bucket and the whole tap and valve came off in my hand. Hot chocolate was spewing everywhere, burning me as I tried to fit the tap back on before I was pulled away and splashed with cold water by some other members of staff. The whole time they were wiping me down I was in a complete trance trying to explain what had just happened, and they thought I was in shock from the burns!
I have no logical explanation for it but it really did happen. I wasn’t imagining what it might look like if there was a chocolate spillage, it shocked me turning the corner and actually seeing it for about 3 seconds before it vanished.
