To think the UK media silence on the Prince William rumours is odd

Just that really. No idea if there's anything more than rumour and speculation, but it's all over social media that Prince William allegedly had an affair with one of Kate's friends, but there is a total media silence on it.
Pretty bizarre considering that Meghan Markle barely has to breathe and the media are covering it.

She could have simply walked out of the hospital without posing like Edward and Sophie did with their kids,

Edward and Sophie posed with both kids when they left Frimley. And with James they both spoke to the press as well.

Anne was the first Royal to give birth in hospital.

this is true although Diana did it and she echoed Diana’s fashion choices in the Lindo steps so perhaps it was about their tradition.

Sure, but that's a choice she made.

In any case I don’t think her role isespecially liberating or empowering for a woman of her intelligence and high profile.

I like Kate, but I've not seen any evidence of any great intelligence on her part. Not that I'm suggesting she's stupid by any means, just that she's not shown much evidence of being intellectually curious. And while I agree with you that the role of royal consort is demeaning in a way, at the same time it's a role which Kate actively sought out for many years and seems quite happy with. The perks are pretty spectacular, after all.

OK, point taken. But it's not really 'posing' in the same way, is it?

If it’s In touch magazine, if HAS to be true. They’ve killed the Queen off at least 4 times and claimed Kate is now Queen more times than I can remember. My favourite read in the grocery line!

Perhaps not in that one, but in these ones it’s pretty similar imo

Following this thread (as a lurker) has been my guilty pressure during a difficult past few days!

I used to work in the legal department of a newspaper and based on how thinks would work there, I absolutely believe this rumour. Of course the mainstream media will know, they've hinted enough, but it's too risky for them to state it as fact without a signed affidavit from someone who would definitely know and they're hardly going to get that, are they? Risky as in legally but more in terms of their relationship with the Royal Family. They need links there.

I'm a republican and never been particularly interested in the royal family in the fast, but I do find William and Kate and to a lesser extent Harry and Meghan fascinating. I just can't comprehend choosing to marry into that.

As a PP or two have said, before they were married William cheated on Kate or at least broke it off with to get with someone else. I'll always remember the classic photo, just after they split one time, of him blotto cupping the breast of a young woman he'd just met in a nightclub. Classy.

Wow

Stormy76 · 26/04/2019 17:37

It’s just gossip, I can’t think why he would though she isn’t exactly a looker ! Kate is much better looking.

Hmm - Diana was much better looking than Camilla!

Cheating is about many things aside from The Looks. It's about the thrill and the excitement and the new.

bellinisurge · 26/04/2019 17:44

Wow @ByeClaire , young unmarried man behaves a bit twattishly. That's never happened before.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 26/04/2019 17:44

I think William undoubtedly loves Kate but I do think he “settled” apparently he was besotted with a previous girlfriend but she did not want him, also K&W split up twice prompted by him. I think in the end he realised no one else wanted the role of consort so he settled for Kate. Kate is not stupid she probably realises she does not set his world alight but desperately wanted to be his wife with all the huge benefits that entails, it would not surprise me if she is fully aware of his indiscretions and turns a blind eye as many royal wives have done, it’s nothing new.

chaosisaladder · 26/04/2019 17:46

@mummylovesbags you’re welcome - it’s an area I’m very passionate about! Not because I don’t think we should treat people, or because I don’t think they deserve help, but I really think it’s important to be careful before diagnosing people with mental health disorders. It’s a slippery slope!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 26/04/2019 17:48

Can someone explain to me why Rose Hanbury has a higher social status than Kate? I don’t get it, surely there is no higher status than future King and Queen?

Quintella · 26/04/2019 17:50

The Windsors are considered johnny come latelys by some of the older English families.

BertrandRussell · 26/04/2019 17:51

Kate is middle class. She will never be anything else in the eyes of the toffs. Some of the really old families look down on the Royal family as a bit infra dig!

DeadWife · 26/04/2019 18:04

Ooh do you mean the Plantagenet lineages Bertrand? Who still regard Owen Tudor as an overreaching Welsh chappie.

Or the Germans, I mean Hanoverians so close to the Windsors ...

In that case wonder if Danny Dyer would meet with approval, descending from Edward III as he does? Smile

IcedPurple · 26/04/2019 18:06

Or the Germans, I mean Hanoverians so close to the Windsors ...

Apparantly, Diana - as a member of one of the oldest noble houses in England - used to refer dismissively to the Windsors as 'the Germans', and her nickname for her father in law was 'Stavros'.

DeadWife · 26/04/2019 18:14

I remember reading that, I liked the thought she had a bit of an acerbic tongue.

Not surprising about FIL; being Greek by birth and royal house either (!).

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 26/04/2019 18:16

Thanks everyone, very interesting! I’m surprised the Royals can be looked down on by other toffs I really thought there was no higher status, though I did read in that article posted earlier in the thread that Ruth Hanbury’s house makes Amner Hall look like a semi! It did make K&W look like the poor relations!

IcedPurple · 26/04/2019 18:18

Yeah, Diana was no intellectual but she did have a cutting sense of humour! I bet she'd have been great company for an evening, even if she could be very problematic as a friend, phoning people up in distress and 4 am, and thinking nothing of dumping those who were no longer useful to her.

Polarbearflavour · 26/04/2019 18:23

On another post like this, someone wrote that the Queen was actually quite common. 🤷🏻‍♀️
