To think the UK media silence on the Prince William rumours is odd

Just that really. No idea if there's anything more than rumour and speculation, but it's all over social media that Prince William allegedly had an affair with one of Kate's friends, but there is a total media silence on it.
Pretty bizarre considering that Meghan Markle barely has to breathe and the media are covering it.

So enjoying this thread. Am learning loads too.

Oliversmumsarmy · 26/04/2019 14:01

Because the media aren’t stupid enough to publish unfounded gossip with no apparently credible source to back it up. It’s just gossip

Don’t the newspapers copy and paste directly from MN.

Or do they do extensive research to see if what people write on here is 100% true

MarkleSparkle · 26/04/2019 14:07

Everything you read about Charles’ childhood makes you just want to give him a hug tbh.

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/04/2019 14:08

Sorry, who jumped into thenSerpentine to rescue a drowning homeless man? Princess Diana?

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/04/2019 14:11

I'm googling and finding all sorts. Apparantly Freddie Mercury helped princess Diana disguise herself as a man and they along with Kenny Everett went to a gay bar. Grin

Quintella · 26/04/2019 14:14

Didn't one of the previous princes (George?) have a fondness for dressing in drag and walking around London with Noel Coward?

Nico, that's brilliant!

Hushnownobodycares · 26/04/2019 14:19

Surely if William did have an affair he knew it would come out at some point

My husband reckons won’t be long before Kate is bumped off Hmm I did think it was strange she did go to NZ with William but I don’t really believe this. I don’t care enough haha

'Died in a convenient plane crash.'

Was he bumped off to save embarrassment to The Firm? Shock

Ever since I read that King George's death was hurried along by giving him a cocaine/heroin speedball to ensure his death announcement would be in the Times rather than the Standard, nothing would surprise me!

Quartz2208 · 26/04/2019 14:23

Yep Prince George Duke of Kent (he was not the Queen's father he was Albert)

One of them was also (falsely) rumoured to be Jack the Ripper (Prince Albert)

Edward VII was the last one to have an official mistress - in part because the marriages of George V and VI were seen as happy and based on love (even though George V was very much arranged and she was supposed to marry his brother - the presumed gay Prince Albert)

A lot of this comes down to how much Prince William actually had a choice in who he married and if he partly chose Kate because she was so perfect rather than being madly in love with her and now because they are so enmeshed he knows he has some leeway and she wont leave

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 26/04/2019 14:27

@NorthernRunner that's awful, she's got 3 small DC! I think she'll just Princess Alexandra it out tbh.

Pretty sure the cross dresser was the previous Duke of Kent. Although rumours also persisted that Prince Albert Victor aka Prince Eddy, original heir to Edward VII was gay, I think. Certainly that he was odd. He was also originally meant to marry May of Teck aka Queen Mary. Like Catherine of Aragon before her she got the next inline instead and I think she had quite a happy marriage to George V.

don't know about the other royal protection officers but Ken Wharfe has certainly done quite well out of his experiences.

One of my parents’ best friends was a royal protection officer including for Diana. Apparently he was in some sort of commanding role during the Poll Tax riots and was given the royal role as a reward. He will say almost nothing about it which is frustrating.

The only things he will say is that Diana was really not very bright and her life turned out the way it did precisely because it was someone not very bright blundering about where someone brighter might have been more circumspect. The Royal Family didn’t kill Diana. She could have been killed but it wasn’t them because they don’t have that sort of power anymore.

limitedperiodonly · 26/04/2019 14:44

@limitedperiodonly Diana was pure gold?? She behaved like an overgrown child, Why do you miss her? did you know her?

Of course I didn't happyhillock, but there was a particular time in the 1990s from her divorce to her death when you thought you did because she was feeding stuff to the newspapers. It was like a soap opera and was fascinating.

And if someone wants to report me to MNHQ for that and get this post deleted like the last one, they can.

But that's how it was.

On a recent thread about whether we came to London to mourn Diana, I expressed my mixed feelings about her. She was a complicated person who did a lot of good, particularly in the smashing the stigma over HIV but also some harm. I'm sure if we were friends, not that unlikely as she befriended people outside her social circle, she'd have probably cut me out at the time of her death like she did with her mum, Fergie and Elton John over some petty feud. The rift with Fergie was over a harmless joke Fergie made about Diana having verrucas. Again, hilarious.

Quintella · 26/04/2019 14:50

I can't believe your post was deleted. It was hardly inflammatory!

ajandjjmum · 26/04/2019 14:51

Tbf Fergie wrote that she caught verrucas from Diana, having borrowed some shoes from her. Not exactly world-ending, but not a nice comment to make about a friend - and certainly not a harmless joke.

longwayoff · 26/04/2019 14:53

Prince Charles and Princess Anne were occasionally photographed by paps on their way home from their boarding schools. I'm younger than them but remember that they both looked thoroughly depressed. Don't recall anyone envying them.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 26/04/2019 14:55

Can't believe that post got deleted, limited!

Seemingly Diana never spoke to her again after that

longwayoff · 26/04/2019 15:01

Edward vii's mistress, Mrs. Keppel, Camilla's granny. And so it goes.

limitedperiodonly · 26/04/2019 15:02

These were verrucas ajandjjmum and considering Diana did so much to end stigma about having HIV/AIDs, seemed a rather silly thing to get annoyed with Fergie about. These things are all just illnesses, not a judgement from God - which HIV/AIDs was seen as in the 80s and 90s. But Diana was a complicated, infuriating and enjoyable person.

limitedperiodonly · 26/04/2019 15:05

These are hardly state secrets DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops.
