To think the UK media silence on the Prince William rumours is odd

Just that really. No idea if there's anything more than rumour and speculation, but it's all over social media that Prince William allegedly had an affair with one of Kate's friends, but there is a total media silence on it.
Pretty bizarre considering that Meghan Markle barely has to breathe and the media are covering it.

It's not like they'd be sloping off to the Travel Lodge two towns over though, like normal people. You don't need to worry about being spotted with your affair partner when you've each got a few houses or loyal friends' properties to carry on at. That's how Charles did it, isn't it.

PCohle · 25/04/2019 21:34

Yes, and they're [injunctions] pretty much used when there's truth to the story.

You have to have at least a "good arguable case" of defamation to obtain an injunction. So if the press have evidence that the information they are threatening publication of is true the celebrity in question would not be able to obtain an injunction.

MadCatEnthusiast · 25/04/2019 21:34

But the logic that Rose leaked it as revenge for being frozen out makes sense.

I agree but it's foolish because no one would sympathise. The public would instead be sympathetic and supportive to Kate.

Surely, this might be why the brothers haven't been as close lately? The British media have painted this as the wives' quarrel. I can imagine Harry being like "this is what our parents went through, why would you do that?"

Honestly, if William is paying for this to not be published and tabloids can bash Meghan for everything from her clothing to her baby shower the taxpayers DID NOT pay for and her celebrity friends like Selena Williams funded instead then that's just not fair.

Didn’t Jeremy Clarkson have an injunction for a while? Then he did a piece in The Times admitting it and saying they were useless and a colossal waste of money.

Yes, he took one out to prevent his first wife from claiming that they'd had an affair after he married his second wife. Politicians used parliamentary privilege to reveal the ones involving Sir Fred Goodwin (former head of RBS who had an affair with a senior colleague) and Ryan Giggs. Colin Montgomerie had one which stopped a former girlfriend talking about their relationship (it's mentioned on a Dara o'Briain DVD, so I'm assuming I can mention it here!).

TheSpottedZebra · 25/04/2019 21:41

I think part of the deal with the press was that horse trials photo shoot last week. They never usualky permit pictures of their kids out in the wild, yet that day, hundreds were taken, from many different angles.

Iamnotagoddess · 25/04/2019 21:42

TheSpottedZebra

Good point!

KittyLane1 · 25/04/2019 21:44

William allegedly cheated on Kate with Isabella Calthorpe, which caused their separation, when Isabella turned him down, he went back to Kate and proposed to her.

There were loads of rumours of an affair with Jecca Craig, remember he went on a lads holiday and Jecca was there and the press were posting pics of them together with very snarky headlines.

Loads of young, wealthy, attractive women stay with cheating husbands, Coleen Rooney for example.

DistanceCall · 25/04/2019 21:45

If they weren’t posh social care would have possibly been involved or at least a family worker.

Social care get involved when someone has an affair? Seriously?

MadCatEnthusiast · 25/04/2019 21:45

They never usually permit pictures of their kids out in the wild

I thought Kate usually takes pictures of her kids and posts them on their birthdays or other special occasions

I don't believe you're correct here.

An injunction doesn't have to be about defamation, I know in some cases the person actually involved in an affair has been gagged from speaking.

It doesn't matter if there's evidence to prove it, an injunction can still be granted.

Patroclus · 25/04/2019 21:47

Load of old balls. They're really laying into them all since Harry told them where to go.

justasking111 · 25/04/2019 21:48

Who said the rich are different?

ThePixieQueen · 25/04/2019 21:49

There could be truth in it? William and Harry aren’t getting on, yet photos of Kate and Harry at the ANZAC service and the Easter service show Kate and Harry ok. Harry made a point of talking to Kate yet ignoring William. Perhaps William did have an affair, and Harry’s peeved with William given he likes his sister in law and he remembers how hurt his mother was by Charles affair.

Iamnotagoddess · 25/04/2019 21:50

NOOOooo the emotional abuse (which the Panorama interview basically was).

Imagine going into school the day after that Shock

AvengersAssemble · 25/04/2019 21:50

Might explain why Kate looks so thin. I have always thought Harry and Kate seem to laugh and enjoy each other's company far more than she looks when she is with William.

TheSpottedZebra · 25/04/2019 21:52

Sorry, yes I meant that the press are not allowed to publish is of them other than at official engagements or pre-agreed images.

Interesting if it's true.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2019 21:55

Kate does like her bil!
Harry and her seem to really like each other.
Which is nice.

KittyLane1 · 25/04/2019 21:56

William was regarded almost as a fairytale Prince Charming when he was a younger man, he was handsome and had a full head of golden hair, he was smiley and all the girls loved him.
Now he is bald and grumpy looking, very possible he is desperate to hold on to that notion of a fairy tale prince and is eager to prove himself still desirable.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2019 21:58

I would rather be friends with Harry than his brother! Never met any of them and never will!

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2019 21:58

Interesting if it's true.

That article, which has been posted already btw, is the purest of pure speculation.

There’s literally nothing to it other than ‘imagine if this happened’. Hmm

The lengths people go to to sully that poor woman are unbelievable.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/04/2019 21:59

The trouble is the public are brainwashed into submission and believing they 'know' and 'love' these people

Pure PR spin I'm afraid - being able to afford the best they're very, very good at it and enough folk are still prepared to swallow the image wholesale

For the same reason, issues of "who'll get the sympathy" really won't matter. We proles are simply irrelevant - masses on the sidelines who have to be interacted with occasionally, but who count for nothing as long as their position's secure

Hushnownobodycares · 25/04/2019 22:05

Again, that's what their work entails. You may think that funding that is not worthwhile, and it's a fair view. You are entitled to vote for the removal of the monarchy or the redistribution of wealth or whatever. But you can't say that you are entitled to know about someone's private life because they are privileged

They don't work. They are figureheads and no political party will ever put abolishing the whole circus on the manifesto so that's a non starter.

Their privilege is based on historic land and wealth grabs along with the more modern tax breaks they've enjoyed but even leaving that aside they have always been at liberty to choose to retire from public life and all the lovely moolah perks that go with it. Until they do they can't bleat about the spotlight.

Haworthia · 25/04/2019 22:07

I’m not sure Kate being thin is proof of anything. She dropped loads of weight before her wedding, and has arrived to remain there ever since (pregnancies aside).

I did think it was interesting that her wedding earrings got an outing this week, for the first time. Trying to send a message?
