You know, the kind of behaviour only you know about which is unusual, and would make people go Hmm but you love doing?

For example, I binge on three different Netflix programmes at any one time in what I call a "3-2-1" sequence, which goes like this:

  • I will watch a long series (currently Peep Show) 3 episodes at a time
  • then I will watch 2 episodes of a shorter series (Santa Clarita Diet at the mo)
  • I'll then watch one episode of a weekly-type series after that (Jane the Virgin season 5 at the moment)
  • Then it starts with the 3 episodes again, and so on and so forth

I can't deviate from the 3-2-1 sequence, and if for example I've finished the Santa Clarita Diet episodes but the next episode of Jane the Virgin isn't on until 2 day's time, I'll wait to watch anything more until then. I can't just skip it and watch the next 3 Peep Shows, or the world will probably end or something

I don't know why I do this or when it started, but it works for me ConfusedGrin

Please make me feel normal and tell me your secret weird behaviour

I watch pimple popping videos on YouTube for hours on end. I've also started watching earwax removals.

BarefootHippieChick · 25/04/2019 15:23

If I'm reading an article I have to read each paragraph in a different accent

I do this with characters in books! They all have accents similar to yours. My favourite is American. I should have been an actress 😆

Notreallyhavingitall · 25/04/2019 20:49

I have to 'land' on my right foot going up or down stairs. I scan unfamiliar sets of stairs /steps as I approach them so I know which foot to start with in order to end on the right one. Really irritating if I get it wrong and I have to step over two steps to make it work.
Also flicking through a book to get to the right page I have to get there from the front, so if I accidentally open on the right page I have to go back a page so I can turn the page to get to it. Nuts right?

TheSilveryPussycat · 25/04/2019 22:49

If I've been waiting a long time for a bus, I will say my first magic word to summon a bus. If that doesn't work l say my second magic word, and if still no bus l will say my third magic word.

I cant tell you what they are, or they might stop working!

pineapplebryanbrown · 26/04/2019 06:48

All of these behaviours are completely ordinary. They're very normal anxiety responses and leftover childhood pastimes.

AuntieCorruption · 26/04/2019 07:23

I agree! These are not so weird! I think we all do a bit of these from time to time.

TurquoiseAndPurple · 26/04/2019 07:58

@findingmyfeet12 I've just got sky and realised there's a show called 'Dr. Pimple Popper'... I was pretty excited 😂

ScrewyMcScrewup · 26/04/2019 08:46

Dr Pimple Popper is great! Momma Squishy is my favourite patient series (YouTube)

waxahatchee · 26/04/2019 09:42

Well I too thought there would be more weirdness than this lot, and still nobody who counts all the letters and divides into 12s or 3s or 4s while people are talking??
I wanted weirder stuff like people who make obstacle courses for woodlice and snails or sleep in a cupboard in their swimwear or drive around throwing potatoes at people or something.
Anyway carry on Smile

findingmyfeet12 · 26/04/2019 09:47

my favourite patient is Mr Wilson Blush

ScrewyMcScrewup · 26/04/2019 09:57

I love Mr Wilson but I find the videos a bit uncomfortable because he's so obviously in pain. Still watch them though Blush

AuntieCorruption · 26/04/2019 10:23

@waxahatchee I was hoping for at least one hot dog mask!

pineapplebryanbrown · 26/04/2019 10:39

wax no one ever throws potatoes do they? It's always tomatoes.

Moralitym1n1 · 26/04/2019 10:43

@Namechange8471

I had something like that as a child too.

Moralitym1n1 · 26/04/2019 10:47

@GunpowderGelatine

Thank you so much for starting this thread - it is simultaneously the most reassuring and funny thing ever.

Angellucy07 · 26/04/2019 10:47

When I'm waiting and bored/ anxious (typical scebario medical walk-in-centre) I go through each date in the year in my head and think of a person I know with a Birthday on that date!!
It's surprising but it helps pass the time.

waxahatchee · 26/04/2019 11:00

Yes Auntie ! Where are those people dancing in fields in hot dog masks? Is it just us?
And Thigh, tomatoes are good but potatoes are better, broccoli is fun too. You can get quite a good lob on a broccoli.

pineapplebryanbrown · 26/04/2019 11:11

What about pommes dauphinoise?

Mermaidkisses · 26/04/2019 11:16

I talk for my cats!!
My BF thinks its hilarious ... my large female cat thinks she is the Queen and has a regal voice and calls us her staff. My small black male kitten is an East End gangster (think the Kray twins with fur and paws) he has a deep voice and calls everyone Treacle. We have some great little chats, me and the furry fiends ... BF tells everyone about them lol

letsgomaths · 26/04/2019 11:20

I imagine myself doing silly things that you sometimes see on YouTube: people sitting in a public place with bare arms and legs, and a sign saying "draw on me", with lots of marker pens nearby, usually while wearing a mask so they can't see who is drawing on them. I haven't been brave enough to actually do this!

RoastOx · 26/04/2019 11:25

Sometimes when I'm driving I pretend I am on carpool karaoke or similar. Being interviewed.

I imagine myself to be a pop star.

When I walk down the street I pretend in my head I am a ceebrity and imagine being papped and what the newspapers would make of whatever outfit I am wearing.

wtf is wrong with me!

RoastOx · 26/04/2019 11:28

Also if I can't sleep, I imagine my bed is a hospital bed and that I am poorly and must rest.

PaintBySticker · 26/04/2019 11:36

If I’m on a train or bus gazing out the window I like to zoom in on the trees or distant buildings and in my ‘minds eye’ I can see every detail.

If a driver doesn’t stop at a zebra crossing when I waiting to cross I curse them with ingrown toenails.

Windmyonlyfriend · 26/04/2019 11:52

I do a really weird style of writing in my head when people are talking to me.

As they’re talking, a certain word will stand out and I’ll ‘write’ it in my head but in a way that makes all the letters fit together - but there are rules governing this. Flat edges are ‘strongest’ and flatten the letters before and after them and rounded edges are softer so mould to the letters either side. It’s hard to explain but I can do it almost instantly in my head.

It looks a little bit like this but it’s actually much harder to do it for real!

(The ‘a’ in talking has had to accommodate the bar of the t and also it’s upward tail. K is a very strong letter and is rarely affected by those around it. The g has bent inwards to make space for the curve of the n....!)

To ask what your weird secret behaviour is?
waxahatchee · 26/04/2019 12:11

Oh I love that window! I have lots of rules around my letter counting it has developed over time to be almost impossible to explain
