You know, the kind of behaviour only you know about which is unusual, and would make people go Hmm but you love doing?

For example, I binge on three different Netflix programmes at any one time in what I call a "3-2-1" sequence, which goes like this:

  • I will watch a long series (currently Peep Show) 3 episodes at a time
  • then I will watch 2 episodes of a shorter series (Santa Clarita Diet at the mo)
  • I'll then watch one episode of a weekly-type series after that (Jane the Virgin season 5 at the moment)
  • Then it starts with the 3 episodes again, and so on and so forth

I can't deviate from the 3-2-1 sequence, and if for example I've finished the Santa Clarita Diet episodes but the next episode of Jane the Virgin isn't on until 2 day's time, I'll wait to watch anything more until then. I can't just skip it and watch the next 3 Peep Shows, or the world will probably end or something

I don't know why I do this or when it started, but it works for me ConfusedGrin

Please make me feel normal and tell me your secret weird behaviour

A day out shopping invoves me walking around the shops mentally choosing accessories for my pretend life. I choose a wide range of things from new toiletries to cutlery and imagine them all in my imaginary home. I have to click my fingers or it's not 'mine'. I try to be discreet if there are other shoppers close byHmm

On train platforms I have to fight really hard to stop myself pushing people in front of oncoming trains. This includes my own children.

I am having a very long affair (in my head) with Les Dennis. We met when I was in the sixth form and he had breakfast at a Little Chef I was working at. We have endured all sorts together over the years. N.B I don't fancy him, I never have done, he just turned up in my imagination one day.

I’m now worried about who might just turn up in my imagination one day Grin

l have to have the volume on my car radio on an odd number, otherwise l feel really unsettled.
When l'm hanging clothes out, l have to use two pegs the same colour on each item. They don't have to match the garment, but they have to both be the same.
Ever since learned to touch type, l've found myself 'typing out' conversations. Unobtrusively, l hope. Usually on the side of my legs.
l talk to my rabbits in funny voices and l sing to the doe bunny. l'm sure she hates it, and thinks l'm crackers.
l can't go to bed til l've talked to each one individually, asked them to look after the other two (by name) and told them l love them.

I can rarely fall asleep Unless I tell
My self a story , stories usually are about me and a fantastic relationship/life and I doze off at some point then I start again next night, sometimes i rewrite it but it's normally around the same theme , have done this since childhood ,

Hattifnatt88 · 24/04/2019 09:40

I stream myself gaming very occasionally, only my gamer friends know.
I sometimes write fiction, fantasy, and even erotic short stories Blush one got really popular on one of those kind of websites.

livelyredjellybean · 24/04/2019 09:49

I obsessively spell things in my head... individual words, full sentences. I tense and relax my inner thigh muscles while I do it; so on the first letter, I tense and hold my left, then my right on the 2nd, release left on 3rd and release right on 4th. I have to use a lot of punctuation to relax my legs sometimes!

I also like to make words out of car registration numbers.

I have several imaginary lives that I drift into and wander around in. I get very excited if I think of a new one to add to the list. They're all set in medieval times.

If I'm walking along and stub my toe or scrape my shoe, I have to balance it out by deliberately doing the same to the other shoe. Sometimes I scrape the other one too much and then have to scrape the original shoe a bit to balance it out.

When making a cup of tea i imagine pouring the boiling water over people and then taking them to hospital. I imagine finding a foundling on my doorstep.

I check CCTV free areas and note them for future reference in case i have to go on the run from the police. I try to plot the route from my house without encountering CCTV.

pineapplebryanbrown · 24/04/2019 09:58

I look for places that i could keep a "go bag" in case i have to go on the run.

brizzlemint · 24/04/2019 10:02

When I read it has to be one fiction, one non-fiction and the fiction books have to be a different genre from the last one I read, non-fiction books have to be about a different subject.

zoe9876 · 24/04/2019 10:02

I don't know if this even works this way, if I see a magpie, I'll google magpie to get a picture, so I've seen 2 magpies.

When you see one magpie just cross your eyes then you'll see two! (Don't do this if you're driving!)

Offallycheap · 24/04/2019 10:03

In a Little Chef with Les Dennis!Grin Howling!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 24/04/2019 10:10

I'm wondering if the Little Chef part was real, or part of the fantasy?

BarefootHippieChick · 24/04/2019 10:12

I am laughing sooo hard at this thread! ! It just goes to show you how weird and wonderful everyone really is behind their boring and normal facade 😂 I think for most of us it's just a way of keeping our brains busy and active.

I've always been completely obsessed with clothes since I was little, and every day, whatever I'm wearing, i go through it in my head as if I'm a page in a fashion magazine (ie today Barefoot is wearing black strappy vest from George, blue check shirt Primark, black skinny jeans New Look, grey lace ballet pumps Matalan ) I do this with the kids too, as they like to change outfits several times a day I'm constantly having to revise it. I also go through old holiday pictures to see if I can remember where everything came from.

Namechange8471 · 24/04/2019 10:14

This thread has made my day.

I've always felt odd having ocd, depression and maladaptive daydreaming. It's nice to know we're not alone Cake

findingmyfeet12 · 24/04/2019 10:15

I also think about death a lot. I'm absolutely terrified of dying. It cripples me with fear if I think about it too much.

findingmyfeet12 · 24/04/2019 10:17

I re-read books and re-watch films and TV shows a lot. I go through phases of finding it intimidating to try something new.

TigersRoll · 24/04/2019 10:18

Love the one about hurling an orange full pelt at the back of someone’s head 😂 I have so many thoughts like this and worried I was a potential psychopath

tisonlymeagain · 24/04/2019 10:23

@Arrowfanatic Me too! I'd be mortified if someone discovered it.

tisonlymeagain · 24/04/2019 10:29

I listen to music and pretend I am a contestant on something like Strictly. I make up the dance routines in my head, and even plan costumes. Every song I hear that comes on the radio I think 'ooh that would be great for my jive...or halloween week'

tisonlymeagain · 24/04/2019 10:30

@Blankspace4 Nope, not on your own. I do that too, I love it. I go out of my way to buy the perfect ribbon for it. My mum also called it silking. I find it so comforting, especially when I am tired.

bobstersmum · 24/04/2019 10:33

Haha, some of these I can really relate to! I tuck each hand into the sides of my knickers while laid on my back to go to sleep, I have no idea why but it feels comforting, keeps my arms right by my sides, a bit like being swaddled I suppose?
@sandradea, yeah right.

bobstersmum · 24/04/2019 10:35

@thighofrelief101 I will not be coming to yours for a cuppa! Shock

thenorthernluce · 24/04/2019 10:41

I have to take equal sized bites/pieces of food and alternate between the right and left side of my mouth. For example, if I’m eating chips, I’ll choose one chip, chew it on the right side of my mouth then swallow, then I’ll choose an equal size and do the same on the left, ad infinitum. Goes for any type of food: cutting up fish, spearing pasta, forking rice. Must be roughly equal and alternated between sides. My world doesn’t fall apart if it doesn’t work out, but it feels pretty weird.
