I came back from somewhere tropical just over a week ago.
Had some mosquito bites that got infected and turned into cellulitis. That’s clearing up with antibiotics.

But now I can see what’s in there and I have actual maggot things.

Fucking help me!

It’s 3am. It is excruciatingly painful and I can feel them move.

I had much Prosecco yesterday as did H. I could wake DD up or could waiti til morning. But i am freaking out badly.

Do you get this sort of stuff in Mexico?

NicoAndTheNiners · 22/04/2019 21:20

Ok, it's a yes for Mexico and while googling I found an article about a bloke with bot flies in his foreskin. Warning, there are graphic photos.

"You know – here – in every village – they have one or two people that are very good at squeezing them out. They have to feel first – to line up the grub properly – then they squeeze in a special way – a real ‘art’ – and the worm just pops out – shooting ten feet or more – like from a gun."

Hanging your clothes outside to dry in areas of high tropical rainfall can be risky if they are not ironed properly. Mango flies or myiatic flies are common in these areas, especially during the hot and humid summers. If clothes are hung outside, it is possible for a female fly to lay eggs on them, especially when the clothes were contaminated with urine or faeces. The clothes are then worn and the eggs penetrate the skin. People will usually complain that their body is itching and within three days, painful, boil-like lesions occur

Mooey89 · 22/04/2019 21:50

And this right here solidified my idea that leaving washing out overnight and being darked on is actually a thing.

KooMoo · 22/04/2019 21:50

Sweet fucking Mary of Jesus .....

I salute you OP!!!

SavageBeauty73 · 22/04/2019 21:57

Bloody hell 🤮 seriously brave

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 22/04/2019 22:05

Well bugger me backwards, I'm a true sporner but this is something else- OP, you are a legend! Wishing you many gin' s and the ability to forget the maggot-y 4 Wine

Paddy1234 · 22/04/2019 22:21

And this is why I am on mumsnet!

Paddy1234 · 22/04/2019 22:27

OP you totally delivered! Thank you ❤️

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 22/04/2019 22:31

That's horrendous. It's made me feel itchy all over

I remember my colleagues in a&e telling me about a patient who came in with stomach pain and vomited up a huge long worm ShockConfused
About 30 minutes before my shift started thankfully. I saw the worm but so glad I didn't see it come up.
I think your maggots even trump this.

Laiste · 22/04/2019 22:39

I

no. i have no words

Motheroffeminists · 22/04/2019 22:50

I feel all unnecessary and squirmy. I love a good spot or blackhead but am pretty squeamish but a nurse! and I would have had to be sedated because I'd have freaked out. And then someone posts about a huge blister full of spiders!!! Ffs. I'll have nightmares.

For once I'm glad that I can't afford foreign holidays. There's so much to see and do in the UK. I've recently got into Vera. Northumberland looks lovely and I'm sure it's free of nasty wee beasties. I'll stick to England for now but the rest of the UK is in my non-infested places to visit list.

Maggots ffs.

Thatsnotmyotter · 22/04/2019 22:57

I have been to many a tropical destination and not considered that this could happen. I am now quite horrified and feel very lucky!

I did get bitten by a tick in The Gambia (when sleeping on the floor of a boat of all places) but I didn’t even realise until it fell off, all full of blood 😬

chilling19 · 22/04/2019 23:08

Awwwww 🤮 hope you feel better soon.

CaptainCabinets · 22/04/2019 23:27

Why does this never happen when I do a bank shift on A&E?!

Wallabyone · 22/04/2019 23:28

Argh! So glad you're ok, but that is truly awful. I just made the mistake of googling and then watched a fully matured human bot fly emerge from a scientist's arm, leaving a nipple-like hole in its place. Dear lord Shock

Tolleshunt · 22/04/2019 23:31

Fuck me, I feel faint.

This is even worse than the adder thread from last night.

A week in Bognor instead of abroad is now looking very tempting.

SapphireSeptember · 22/04/2019 23:32

Nope, all the nopes. Why did I read this thread? Envy

Poor OP. Glad they're out now and hope your wounds heal nicely.

MsJaneAusten · 22/04/2019 23:39

Shiiiiiiit. I’m going to Africa in a few weeks.

gnushoes · 22/04/2019 23:46

And that's why people go on about ironing your clothes when you visit many African countries...

Contraceptionismyfriend · 23/04/2019 00:46

Nope.

BlondeBumshelll · 23/04/2019 00:56

Well, no guessing what I'll be dreaming of tonight!
