I came back from somewhere tropical just over a week ago.
Had some mosquito bites that got infected and turned into cellulitis. That’s clearing up with antibiotics.

But now I can see what’s in there and I have actual maggot things.

Fucking help me!

It’s 3am. It is excruciatingly painful and I can feel them move.

I had much Prosecco yesterday as did H. I could wake DD up or could waiti til morning. But i am freaking out badly.

Ahhhhhh , God that looks SO painful.

Never going anywhere tropical. Only holidaying in Clacton from now on.

Ugh I feel my skin crawling.

Well done OP you are so brave

BastardMozzies · 22/04/2019 10:22

Bit tired and traumatised now.

Oh. My. God....

Just be grateful you didn't get any Jiggers stuck in your feet. I was going down a Sporner rabbit hole on YouTube and came across a video about Jigger removal. I'm a pretty hardened Sporner and I had to put my phone down in abject horror after three minutes. ConfusedConfused

EL8888 · 22/04/2019 10:25

😲 respect that’s grim. Your user name does make it a bit funnier

BettysLeftTentacle · 22/04/2019 10:27

I take there’ll be no more Safari for you OP?

SarahTancredi · 22/04/2019 10:28

Wow!

You are amazing op and thanks for posting! Is it wrong that as sorry as I am.you had to go through this I also find it quite exciting and interesting .

Glad you are on the mend!

NoWordForFluffy · 22/04/2019 10:30

Bit tired and traumatised now.

You're not the only one, OP! 🙈🤢

Seriously though, well done you; you're a trooper alright!

Innernutshell · 22/04/2019 10:44

No need to cancel any holiday trips to the Tropics.

Plenty of UK maggots in hot weather.

They can be commonly found in leg wounds/ulcers - usually by Community Nurses.

Always look after your legs. Wink

WhoTheFuckDoesThis · 22/04/2019 10:44

Holy crap OP! Those are epic! Look at those fat, juicy big bastards-you grew some beauts there!
Sniggerin slightly at PP's suggestion you holiday in Hebrides, the wet and sun have brought the evil wee bastart midges to the fore a bit earlier than usual.
Nothing on these tho-fuck!
Did they pop when they were squeezed?? Wave their wee legs?

woodpigeons · 22/04/2019 10:49

They are very common in Africa so everything dried outside, including sheets, needs to be ironed.
The alternative is to dry everything inside or put everything without metal buttons or zips in a microwave after it’s dry.
We lived there for many years and none of us got them except one of our dogs. It was horrible having to squeeze them out but she didn’t seem to mind.

SpamChaudFroid · 22/04/2019 11:00

You poor thing OP! Those mango fly larvae are bloody HUGE! I've had experience of them close-up, in West Africa. A litter of puppies were horribly riddled with them, and with no vet care to speak of, I pulled them all out myself. Sadly the owner didn't give a shit about the state they were in.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 22/04/2019 11:01

oooh you have been so brave, it's just vile to think about, but OMG

try not to think about it and just celebrate your BRAVE-ity

I'd be really worried about more hatching out, sorry!

wigglesniggles · 22/04/2019 11:07

You poor thing OP. I got a random bite in Spain, popped into A&E in East London, they said it was flesh-eating cellulitis and stuck me on an antibiotic drip for three days on a bank holiday weekend, sent home with antibiotics, then came out in hives as my body had enough!

Rest lots Flowers

notapizzaeater · 22/04/2019 11:10

Think I'd need counselling after that !

LividLaughLove · 22/04/2019 11:13

This kind of awesomeness sometimes happens on Grey's Anatomy and Dr Webber will appear with a glass jar to keep them for posterity.

Pengrin · 22/04/2019 11:15

That was delicious.

BentBaastard · 22/04/2019 11:16

I needed a support group after line of Duty last night.

I need another one for this thread.

Man that’s gross.

Violetroselily · 22/04/2019 11:21

OP you are a trooper. I hope you have a smooth recovery.

ScrambledSmegs · 22/04/2019 11:25

Dear god Shock

viques · 22/04/2019 11:25

Thud.

Sorry, I have just needed to use my fainting couch, I will be fine once I have sniffed the smelling salts and had a double gin.

costacoffeecup · 22/04/2019 11:34

Feel woozy but so glad I read this. Classics?

Sidge · 22/04/2019 11:42

Woah you are hardcore!

I was a military nurse and we had a Marine into Isolation as on returning from Belize he had a fever and a swollen infected arm. The next day his arm popped and loads of teeny tiny spiders erupted from his arm. The doctor fainted and the nurses were trying to bribe each other to nurse him. The poor Marine himself was quite stoic!

Hope you feel better soon.

LucyAutumn · 22/04/2019 11:51

Omg. Well done for keeping your shit together OP! Gin

BagofTeeth · 22/04/2019 11:57

I lurk in Sporners Corner a good bit and have to say this is the most amazing yet gross thing I think I've ever read in my years on MN. Well done OP, you handled it way better than I would have!

Miljah · 22/04/2019 12:02

When I was a baby in East Africa, one of our ayah's jobs was to hot iron our nappies, but even then, I got a bot fly larvae in the top of my thigh!

Mum says she thought it was a yellow-headed zit til she saw the top moving!

The local GP was a family friend, he just squeezed it out.
