I came back from somewhere tropical just over a week ago.
Had some mosquito bites that got infected and turned into cellulitis. That’s clearing up with antibiotics.

But now I can see what’s in there and I have actual maggot things.

Fucking help me!

It’s 3am. It is excruciatingly painful and I can feel them move.

I had much Prosecco yesterday as did H. I could wake DD up or could waiti til morning. But i am freaking out badly.

I don't think you said whereabouts on your body these were, OP?

Wherever it was, though, you'd have had to have me sectioned if I'd seen that on mine; the pics are bad enough Shock

BastardMozzies · 22/04/2019 16:32

They are on my back so quite hard to see.
So traumatised I needed a nap. Dreamt the daily mail wanted my story.
I’d sell it for a decent chunk of cash EnvyGrin

This was my original post a few days ago. You can see the progression nicely.

(Trauma obviously wearing off a bit now)

In some ways that may have been no bad thing Wink

Totally understandable that you're feeling wobbly, though; you've had a hell of a shock, so be very gentle with yourself and maybe plan something nice for the weekend to sort of "move forward" from it?

AwwNooo · 22/04/2019 17:25

Holy fuck!!! Hope you recover and get over the trauma op. I'm itching all over now 😱

NoWordForFluffy · 22/04/2019 17:28

@Sidge:

I was a military nurse and we had a Marine into Isolation as on returning from Belize he had a fever and a swollen infected arm. The next day his arm popped and loads of teeny tiny spiders erupted from his arm. The doctor fainted and the nurses were trying to bribe each other to nurse him. The poor Marine himself was quite stoic!

I knew an ex-Marine who had a similar experience on return from Belize. I think it was on his face though. Envy < not envy.

🤮

SinjunRivers · 22/04/2019 18:03

@listsandbudgets
Well done for winning at scabies!

managedmis · 22/04/2019 18:09

Could this happen to any type of mosquito bite though? Or just mango fly ones?

Cherrysoup · 22/04/2019 18:26

Is it wrong that I entertained my dh at lunch in a very naice restaurant with this thread?

I feel terrible for you, OP. When I had a serious wound, there was talk of maggot therapy to help clean it up. Apparently they’re the leading hospital in the U.K. for it. I’m very glad I was transferred!

YeOldeTrout · 22/04/2019 18:32

@ManagedMis: it's just one specific species of tropical fly that OP was infected with. It actually laid eggs on her clothes rather than bite her directly. It wasn't a mosquito bite or mozzie babies, it just started by looking like a mozzie bite. Mozzies can put viruses or malaria into you, but not whole fly maggots.

Funny I would never frequent sporners corner but I don't think I would be too freaked if happened to me. Grateful the feckers were out & couldn't find a way to burrow to my brain. I guess they were very painful (ouch).

managedmis · 22/04/2019 19:58

Thanks, yeolde

Smotheroffive · 22/04/2019 20:05

No, definitely not. It only happens where the bott fly exists, of various types (mango being one). Southern and central america, large areas of Africa, and the UK,but not via mosquito s the bott fly lays eggs on the front lower legs of cattle and horses, deer.

It the human bott fly and the mango that lay their eggs on mozzies mostly, but other flies too that bite.

Mozzies in most parts of the world don't carry these parasites.

Also, if you keep covered, and dry clothes inside/iron, to can avoid it even in affected areas.

JasperSIn · 22/04/2019 20:09

I started this thread thinking “yeah pull the other one OP”

OMFG did you ever deliver!

Japonicaflower2 · 22/04/2019 20:20

You're not immune from maggots in the Canaries Envy
I had what I thought was a mosquito bite.....until I squeezed out a maggot. DH didn't believe me until I showed it wriggling across my arm!
Utterly revolting.

Smotheroffive · 22/04/2019 20:26

Canaries are under the umbrella of Saharan Africa where there are bott flies.

They start as larvae that look like a slim version of regular UK maggots, but left in, will balloon to the size of OPs, which did grow extraordinarily quickly! Confused

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2019 20:38

TSSDNCOP. Iron your clothes

What does this mean OP.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 22/04/2019 20:41

TSSDNCOP is a poster who is about to go on an African holiday.

clandestinenetwork · 22/04/2019 20:48

Fuck my life

bobstersmum · 22/04/2019 20:55

Foook I'd have chopped my arm off no joke.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/04/2019 20:57

How does DD feel about the maggoty half siblings?

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2019 21:04

Thanks Moose. I've now read about those ghastly beasties and can see why ironing your clothes is important now. Some grim videos on line.

TitianaTitsling · 22/04/2019 21:06

stone I think the steam from the iron will kill the buggers!!

managedmis · 22/04/2019 21:08

How mnetty can you get, to get rid of mozzies you have to IRON!

Grin
fashiondevotee · 22/04/2019 21:11

Tbf OP, the Daily Mail probably would love your story.

I'm torn between morbid curiosity and queasiness.
