To get a welcome package for neighbour moving in tomorrow?

We have a new neighbour moving in tomorrow, I’ve never met them but I used to live in the house until it was sold about 8 months ago.

I moved next door as it came up for rent when our landlord gave us notice.

I have a small hamper basket and was going to write the bin collection times, useful info like posties name, some tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Just some bits for moving in day.

Is there anything else that would be good? Or helpful?

What a lovely idea! I don't think you need to add anything else. I would be over the moon to receive that from a friendly welcoming neighbour!

whathaveiforgottentoday · 17/04/2019 17:36

Sounds a lovely idea xxx

VelociraptorRex · 17/04/2019 17:39

What a lovely, thoughtful thing to do! Maybe some local takeaway menus for if they don't want to cook on moving day?

Imfinallyhappy1 · 17/04/2019 17:40

Ooooo brill idea velociraptor I’ll pick some up, i was also thinking a small toilet roll, hand soap etc. You know the niggly bits lol

John Lewis vouchers? Cash? A new car? I actually think it's a bit creepy. Soz.

pepperpot99 · 17/04/2019 17:41

Giving your new neighbours toilet roll is seriously creepy.

Imfinallyhappy1 · 17/04/2019 17:41

Fair enough pepper we are pretty welcoming around these parts :)

Maybe not the loo roll then lol

Wow where do you live? That doesn't happen by me 😂

steff13 · 17/04/2019 17:42

Our neighbors chipped in and got us a really nice bird feeder as a welcome gift. We're still using it 12 years later.

pepperpot99 · 17/04/2019 17:43

I'm sure you mean well but you really ought to just let them be. If i was moving.in and someone knocked on my door to give me toilet paper I would be really freaked out.

QueenBeex · 17/04/2019 17:44

I personally think it's very thoughtful.

lidoshuffle · 17/04/2019 17:44

What a kind thought! A pint of milk would be very welcome.

VelociraptorRex · 17/04/2019 17:45

Loo roll might be going above and beyond Confused the people I bought my house off left me non-alcoholic wine, chocolates, the bin schedule and the dishwasher instructions, all of which were much appreciated Grin

lordofthefries · 17/04/2019 17:45

Everything other than loo roll sounds great

Happysaurus · 17/04/2019 17:46

Definitely toilet roll!

TidyDancer · 17/04/2019 17:47

I think it's a lovely idea - including the toilet roll!

Bronze · 17/04/2019 17:48

I think it's a lovely idea.

I'll never forget moving into my first home & my neighbour appearing with a pot of tea. It was most welcome & the teapot it was in was a gift for me. We were good friends for 13 years until we moved. I still have the tea pot & think about her every time I use it.

amber90 · 17/04/2019 17:48

I think thats such a kind thought. Theres nothing creepy about the loo roll either. I'd have been really touched if a neighbour had done anything like that for me when I bought my home

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 17/04/2019 17:48

Yeah I wouldn’t be happy at receiving that either; I’d think it was really invasive and full on.

Then again I have absolutely no desire to even want to know my neighbours, let alone socialise with them.

Cfs83 · 17/04/2019 17:49

Useful info with biscuits or chocs or bottle of wine = lovely friendly neighbour. Full welcome hamper (whilst done with the best intentions) = scary curtain twitcher

Alsohuman · 17/04/2019 17:49

Lovely idea. We took our new neighbours a bottle of wine.

Todaythiscouldbe · 17/04/2019 17:49

I think it sounds lovely, and really thoughtful. I would have loved this (including the toilet roll)

DoubtOfTheOrdinary · 17/04/2019 17:50

If i was moving.in and someone knocked on my door to give me toilet paper I would be really freaked out.

Wouldn't we all. But that's not what the OP is doing. She's introducing herself as a friendly face and giving them a hamper of general useful bits for moving in day - the sort of things that most people forget in amongst all the other stuff they have to remember when packing up and moving - and info about the local area. She's not mutely handing them a bit of bog roll like some weirdo.
OP I think it's a lovely idea.

Likethebattle · 17/04/2019 17:51

I’d hate that i’m afraid. I’d worry you were going to be invasive and overbearing. Move in day is stressful as dick without someone turning up and getting in the way. Maybe leave it a few days and it would be better received.
