At least 100,000 legal crossings at San Ysidro alone, daily.

1 million vehicles/day in El Paso last September (there's a 35 MB file to trawl thru, I'll have better figures in a moment).

And that plonker thinks he can just close the border without causing havoc to both sides. ARGH.

lionheart · 30/03/2019 09:01

That is a bad sign Ewe and over something relatively trivial.

Apart from the fact that his chubby face and corpulent belly are prominently represented, I suspect this Time cover will be added to his wall of fame and bragging numbers. (Whenever he's on the front of any publication we get I have to rip take it off)

@DonaldJTrumpJr
'He’s right... unless they give Pulitzer’s for fiction.

erm... They do, don't they?

AcrossthePond55 · 30/03/2019 13:36

The thing is, San Ysidro (part of San Diego) and El Paso are border towns with large populations. That '100,000 per day' in San Ysidro includes a shit-ton of US citizens who zip across the border and back quite frequently. Some of them even work in Mexico so cross daily, but many of them are people who like to just go to 'hang out' or go to shop the bargains. Not to mention the 1000s who now buy their meds in Mexico. Hell, I can remember being stuck in 3-4 hour lines in Tijuana to cross back into the US after a day at Rosarita or Ensenada back in the '80s. It was no different to us than driving to a beach in the US.

As far as 1M vehicles crossing in El Paso in a month, that's pretty much the entire population of Juarez crossing the border. And again, if that's a true number, I expect that many of them are US citizens working and shopping in Mexico.

Lweji · 30/03/2019 13:48

Exactly, closing those borders will cause more problems than significantly affect illegal immigration or drug traffic.
Not to mention the goods vehicles that also cross, meaning that it would also affect trade relations.

Exactly Lweji. And I have a feeling that more than a few Scrotus fans living near the southern border buy their meds in Mexico since they've closed a lot of the loopholes in mail order from Canadian pharmacies. After all, they hate Mexico until they can get a better/cheaper 'deal' there, doncha know!

Hi folks... I've been away and kept half an eye on what's going on and now back in the swing of it.

Of course I'm disappointed at the Mueller report findings but he's not off the hook yet. Also interested to see how he's thrown the ghastly Betsy deVos under he bus, hopefully her days are numbered....

cozietoesie · 30/03/2019 17:19

It depends whether she can .......scramble out. I suspect she'll be able to.

cozietoesie · 30/03/2019 17:43

After all, she and family are big donors.........

cozietoesie · 30/03/2019 19:04

PerkingFaintly · 30/03/2019 20:20

Carole Cadwalldr is spot on, unfortunately.

cozietoesie · 30/03/2019 20:50

Indeed.

TheClaws · 30/03/2019 23:34

One of the great Conservative commentators. (I just - this seems to be the standard for right-wing comment. I don’t like drawing stereotypes, normally, but I just don’t see this as commonly in the Left.)

Dan Bongino @dbongino
Eric Swalwell is a disgraceful human being who embarrasses himself, and the US Congress, on an hourly basis. He’s everything wrong with this country, the swamp, and the confused liberals and media-types who take him seriously.

TheClaws · 30/03/2019 23:39

Example #2. Fox hack Mark Levin commenting on an article about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, where she is discusses how the right-wing propaganda machine has made her appear.

On the golfing article there's a link to an article about his hairstyle
'an absolutely clean pate — a contained island after scalp-reduction surgery — surrounded by a furry circle of hair around the sides and front, from which all ends are drawn up to meet in the center and then swept back and secured by a stiffening spray,” journalist Michael Wolff'

Why would you go to all that trouble why not just have some sort of hair piece made? If it was a good one it would look completely natural surely,?

He does look comical playing golf with his big round tummy and his little man's titties,
not the we should expect a man his age or anyone for that matter to be an Adonis but it's pretty galling the way he mocks other people when he's such a wretched miserable physical specimen himself

lionheart · 31/03/2019 09:02

'Misrepresenting'.

apnews.com/6c3b6169c6514c72a5adccb7af41aa7f

'WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is misrepresenting the circumstances of a 7-year-old migrant girl’s death as he seeks to steer any potential blame for it away from his administration.'

TheClaws · 31/03/2019 11:11

The trouble with halting aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras is that it will create a greater humanitarian crisis. The people could become desperate and want to seek a better place for their families - seek asylum even? Now who would manufacture a crisis like this?
