What/how much cleaning do you do daily?

Just curious as my boyfriend says I do way to much anti bac cleaning of surfaces! (I have diagnosed OCD & anxiety).

Daily I:
•Wash up at least twice
•Wipe down all kitchen surfaces & cupboard/fridge door handles with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe front door and other door handles/baby gates with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe remotes & tables down with either anti bac spray or wipes.
•Put at least 2 loads of washing in & out on the driers.
•Anti bac spray the sink before bed and clean it.

Weekly I:
•Bleach and anti bac wipe the toilet
•Clean the bath
•Anti bac spray the sink and rinse with hot water (usually do this sometimes 3x a week)
•Hoover twice (Boyfriend does this usually)

Am I crazy or to neurotic?
We ran out of anti bac wipes yesterday and I've been freaking out about not having them! He's just gone off to the shop to get an emergency supply before I go to Aldi tomorrow for a big stock up.

I don't use anti bac wipes, they're expensive and not very environmentally friendly. I do however do a shit tonne of cleaning everyday, or at least I think I do.
Daily tasks

  • hoover living room
  • wash up twice, wipe down surfaces in the kitchen as and when they need it, but several times a day.
  • sweep kitchen floor, 2 maybe 3 times
-wipe down the bathroom sink, rinse shower
  • usual making beds etc
  • wash and dry a load of washing
  • endless picking up after children.
ATBhinchers · 19/02/2019 20:58

Stop using so many wipes. If you must do it so often use a dettol spray and an anti bac cloth.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/02/2019 21:00

I have never used an anti bac wipe and i have never wiped my front door, door handles or remotes.

I dust fortnightly or thereabouts, hoover downstairs twice a week as i have a dog but upstairs hoover much less. Clean bathroom weekly. Mop floors when i can be bothered. Clean kitchen weekly.

I am very tidy and my home always looks clean and neat.

lastqueenofscotland · 19/02/2019 21:01

Stop using so many wipes!!!!

Daily I clean the kitchen/do all washing up.

Hoover and dust every other day
Clean the bathroom 2times a week

Clean the skirting boards when I can remember
Mop floors twice a week.

House generally looks clean and tidy

lastqueenofscotland · 19/02/2019 21:01

I do use detol spray on my handles in the kitchen and bathroom most days mind

SabineUndine · 19/02/2019 21:02

Daily? The washing up, nothing else. On Saturdays about 3 hours of cleaning, maybe.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/02/2019 21:02

I do 2 loads of washing a week and that’s about it. I have a cleaner.

What a waste of money and terrible waste for the environment wipes are

Smileymoon · 19/02/2019 21:02

Anti bacterial wipes are really bad for the environment. You should not use them. You certainly shouldn't use them as regularly as you are. Use a cloth.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:03

I can't! I have ocd. Using a spray then cloth/kitchen roll doesn't work for me- I usually use cloths once too unless they're washable.

IPokeBadgers · 19/02/2019 21:03

Hmmmm....daily, you say? 😂
I'm a total slattern....if the dishwasher gets loaded/unloaded I'm doing well!

Crunchymum · 19/02/2019 21:04

You clean your door handles and remotes daily but your toilet weekly???

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:06

@Crunchymum It's just my boyfriend and I, usually bleach the inside probably twice a week max.

Betsy86 · 19/02/2019 21:06

To be fair im suprised you wipe your front door more than the toilet thats all that stood out to me Grin not a criticism though im in the same boat with the anxiety.

As others said i would only cut down on the wipes i do use them but nowhere near as much as i used to.
I try to do spray cleaner and cloths now, but i do love those lemon wipes from wilko! They sell the scent in a cleaning spray now to though so have tried to use that more.
I dont think your ‘crazy’ op its hard to break the cycle when anxiety/ ocd interfere in your thoughts xx

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:07

I'll deffo clean my toilet more from now on. My reason was you don't really touch it and if you do you wash your hands.

OP posts:
SweetheartNeckline · 19/02/2019 21:08

Daily:
Wipe kitchen worktops and dining table (waterproof tablecloth) with hot soapy water
Clean kitchen sink
Empty/ reload dishwasher
One load of washing
Hoover downstairs (3 DC 7 and under, v outdoorsy)

Weekly:
Hoover upstairs
Clean bathroom / downstairs loo
Clean kitchen floor with soapy water

I think you are probably over-antibaccing and certainly overly cleaning baby gates and doors. They're a job like cleaning skirting boards or internal windows; they just need doing when you notice they need doing imo!

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:08

@Betsy86 thank you! It's hell honestly. XThanksSad

Nothing most days, work full time, come home and make dinner then load/unload dishwasher and wipe kitchen surfaces with zoflora and a cloth. The weekend is proper cleaning time, Hoover, put carpet freshener down, clean windows, steam mop kitchen and loos, clean bath, change bedding...

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:09

Baby gates are as we have a dog btw.

BellamyBlake · 19/02/2019 21:09

Wipes are so bad for the environment!! Have you sought any advice about helping your OCD? Especially considering how anxious the wipes issue makes you.
I clean the toilet every day and the shower every time it's used (most days), have a quick wipe round in the kitchen If we've used it (kitchen spray and a cloth). Sweep my wooden floors downstairs daily (I've got a cat, she's a messy litter boxer). Hoover once a week downstairs. Less upstairs. Blitz everywhere once a month.
My house is always tidy and clean enough. I have more exciting things to be doing with my life than spending it cleaning everyday!

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 19/02/2019 21:09

I never use anti bac wipes but do use a flash spray and fresh dishcloth for kitchen surfaces.
I did wipe down all door handles, window sills, door frames etc with anti bac cleaner yesterday but we had some grubby children to visit (not taught to wash hands or have manners, and all surfaces were sticky. Mum was present so I didn't think I needed to remind them to wash hands after toilet and eating - judge face).
I generally only clean if it needs it, but my family are good at washing hands and taking shoes off, etc.
Ditch the wipes it's not very environmentally friendly.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:10

@BellamyBlake Yes, diagnosed at 7 (now 20) had CAMHS CBT and private therapy as adult. Was on Prozac for 6 years too.

I'll deffo clean my toilet every evening now!

Daily I run the dishwasher and do at least one loead of laundry. Minor cleaning up as I go e.g. wiping kitchen side after making a meal

Weekly clean the kitchen and bathroom, hoover

Things like wiping or dusting door handles, windowsils, bedside tables etc. I do on an ad hoc basis when I notice they are particularly dirty. Once a month maybe.

For me, cleaning is really low on the list of jobs and I don't do much at all.

PrismGuile · 19/02/2019 21:11

I unload and reload the dishwasher, pull the duvet straight and sweep the floor. Wipe sides after I cook or any mess is made. Sometimes I run the vacuum around.

I also have OCD but sadly for me none of my compulsions involve being clean (I know it's not really sadly but I need a fucking cleaner).

Guineapiglet345 · 19/02/2019 21:11

Daily: nothing, dirty plates etc go in the dishwasher, this is turned on every other day but sometimes I let the plates pile up and put it on a couple of times at the weekend instead.

Weekly: kitchen worktops are wiped down, run the hoover over high traffic areas.

Monthly: clean bathrooms. Hoover low traffic areas.

3 monthly: wash bedsheets and towels, change toothbrush heads.

6 monthly: wipe cupboard doors and clean windows.

When he’ll freezes over: clean front door handle and wipe remotes.

As yet I have not been killed by germs and DH hasn’t had a sick day in over a decade.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/02/2019 21:12

I don't get the door handle thing. I must have around 45 internal door or cupboard handles in my house not including the kitchen cupboards. I touch almost none off them except the back door which which we use to go and out of the house and maybe my bedroom handle, my wardrobe handle and the bathroom handles. Why would I need to wipe them all daily?
