What/how much cleaning do you do daily?

Just curious as my boyfriend says I do way to much anti bac cleaning of surfaces! (I have diagnosed OCD & anxiety).

Daily I:
•Wash up at least twice
•Wipe down all kitchen surfaces & cupboard/fridge door handles with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe front door and other door handles/baby gates with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe remotes & tables down with either anti bac spray or wipes.
•Put at least 2 loads of washing in & out on the driers.
•Anti bac spray the sink before bed and clean it.

Weekly I:
•Bleach and anti bac wipe the toilet
•Clean the bath
•Anti bac spray the sink and rinse with hot water (usually do this sometimes 3x a week)
•Hoover twice (Boyfriend does this usually)

Am I crazy or to neurotic?
We ran out of anti bac wipes yesterday and I've been freaking out about not having them! He's just gone off to the shop to get an emergency supply before I go to Aldi tomorrow for a big stock up.

Daily

  • empty dishwasher and load as dishes used.
-1 washing load if needed. Dried, folded and put away.
  • Kitchen surface and dining room table washed once a day.
  • one room dusted/hoovered and hardwood floors washed per week day. Once a week this be the bathroom.
  • one additional job done the kitchen per day eg hoovering, flooring washing, wiping dirty marks of the doors but not the whole door.

I just use hot soapy water for cleaning.

I have a toddler so the playroom could do with being hoovered more than once a week but there is not always time/I have better things to do.

Ffsnosexallowed · 19/02/2019 21:28

What do you think will happen if you don't clean do often? I only use anti bacterial/bleach stuff in the toilet - no where else. You know this is your ocd. You know its irrational, you know it's not normal.

Re the door handle vs toilet. I think the point people were making is that you are cleaning your door handle too often, not that you need to do your toilet more!

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:28

@rose789 that sounds like an idea I could try, it's just a lot more work than taking a fully sanitised wipe out the packeted iyswim? I like a new Wipe too for each thing.

I've gotten good at giving up some control through, I let my boyfriend clean out the hamster the other day as I didn't have time to do it and it was getting dirty. (I usually don't let him do it as I'm scared he'll be less sanitised than I am and touch things after touching the dirty hamster stuff!)

Luckily oh finds it therapeutic too. I bloody hate all forms of domestic stuff and am rubbish at it and hate hate hate the sound of hoovers.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:29

@Ffsnosexallowed ah I see, yeah I see it as I'll get sick (huge vomiting fear!) or my boyfriend will get sick.

I don’t have OCD. I’m not neurotic but I probably do more than that each day. I don’t use wipes as they are ridiculously bad forbthe environment and we have enough things dumped in landfills.

Daily -
Obviously load and empty dishwasher but do pots and chopping boards etc by hand.
Wipe all kitchen surfaces and kitchen table after supper.
Clean downstairs lavatory and sink daily. Change handtowel daily.
Hoover kitchen, sitting rooms and entrance hall as dog moults a lot.
Mop kitchen floor daily.
Clean our bathroom daily.
We’re only two usually but we have at least two loads of laundry a day.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:30

@Tcga745 I must say hoovering is my least favourite! And ironing.

OP posts:
HennyPennyHorror · 19/02/2019 21:30

I have to wash up about 4 times a day...mainly cups and side plates thanks to teenager.

I also wipe down the kitchen counters multiple times per day and sweep daily. I hoover about twice a week. Toilet's cleaned every other day. Handles are wiped down throughout the house about twice per week and also light switches and door jams.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:31

@HennyPennyHorror Same, it's usually between 2-4 times a day depending if we've been out all day. My boyfriend is self employed and works from home all day and I study from home all day so it's probably more like 4! Grin

formerbabe · 19/02/2019 21:31

Daily....clean kitchen...wipe counters several times a day. Hoover hallway everyday...at least one load of washing a day...bleach down the loos.

Every other day...clean bathrooms...Hoover bedroom and living room

Weekly...dusting, Hoover stairs, change beds.

Feel like I'm constantly cleaning and yet nothing's fucking clean.

anniehm · 19/02/2019 21:31

Don't use wipes at all, never cleaned a remote ever!

I clean down the kitchen surfaces most days and bung bleach in the toilet, otherwise the cleaner comes once a week - I do vacuum in between if dog hair gets too bad/guests coming with allergies

anniehm · 19/02/2019 21:32

Ps have dishwasher, on once a day, washing 3x a week

yearinyearout · 19/02/2019 21:33

You should stop using so many wipes, totally environmentally unfriendly. Nothing wrong with using a clean cloth with soapy water.
I do kitchen surfaces a couple of times daily. Vacuum downstairs most days (dog) mop hard floors most days for the same reason. Damp dust lounge several times weekly, don't do skirting boards often enough.
Vacuum upstairs weekly, clean sinks/loos 2-3 times a week.

I don't think I clean enough, my house is passable in terms of cleanliness (and tidy) but certainly not spotless but we rarely get ill so it can't be doing any harm!

Newadventure · 19/02/2019 21:33

I vacuum downstairs twice a day, upstairs around twice a week.(sometimes more depending on how messy dd has been)
Dishes, whenever anything gets used?? Can be once can be 5-6 times.. I dont let it pile up I just wash as I go along. I will wipe down the benches and the top of the cooker at the same time.
Bathroom and mopping gets done around once a week but again it just depends, I'll do it when it looks grubby. Same with every thing, doors, walls, inside of the cooker etc you can tell when things need a good deep clean. I have one washing basket and I'll go through that when it fills up so maybe 3 washes a week? It is just me and dd though.

As for tidying?? All.the.fucking.time.

Spring/summer will be here soon and then I'll have the garden to contend with too! Fuuuunnnn.

Tcga745 · 19/02/2019 21:34

Now that’s funny, ironing is the one thing I will do at a push... every couple of months or so. But I’m not very good. A friend of mine always looks beautifully pressed and has fond kind of supa dupa steam iron contraption. I think I would like one but fear it would be a wast of money!

Tcga745 · 19/02/2019 21:35

Ironing is, after all, silent!

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:35

@formerbabe same!

OP posts:
Tcga745 · 19/02/2019 21:35

Also have lots of children for dishwasher emptying

Moominfan · 19/02/2019 21:36

I don't even do dishes daily, currently got a few soaking that can wait till tomorrow

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:36

@yearinyearout I know it's bad. I do try to offset my use of wipes though by using reusable cups/bottles and having reusable bags, buying produce in paper bags instead of plastic etc.

OP posts:
InDubiousBattle · 19/02/2019 21:37

Same here former, it feels absolutely constant, always something needing doing.

TheFormerMrsPugwash · 19/02/2019 21:38

Daily? Um. I load the dishwasher. Sometimes twice.

I have a job, and teenage DC (hence the extra loading of the dishwasher).

Bedding is changed when it occurs to me, when I have a sudden splurge of bedding-washing.

Nothing else gets done, ever. Unless I have visitors. In which case I flap around with Cillit Bang. I have never, ever, dusted, and am not intending to start now.

I am not entirely at the opposite end of the spectrum to you, OP, in that I am also emetophobic and will wash the taps with the best of them if someone in the family starts vomiting. Will also replace towels after every hand-wash, disinfect the basins, etc (this happens very rarely, thank God - though I'm wondering if this might be related to my domestic hopelessness. I was never, ever ill as a child and grew up in a filthy house with dogs licking the inside of my mouth to wake me up). Otherwise, I am pretty don't care-ish. I wouldn't judge you for your general way of doing things, and I hope you wouldn't judge me for mine.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/02/2019 21:39

Yikes, I honestly can’t recall the last time I wiped my door handles (fridge aside). 😳😳

Newadventure · 19/02/2019 21:39

I have been eyeing up the windows recently.. that'll be a job and a half, I do the inside with Windex type stuff whenever I see smudges, usually in the shape of a tiny hand but the outsides are looking grim so I'll be getting on that soon.
It really never ends.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:40

@TheFormerMrsPugwash I wouldn't judge you at all. Emetophobia is awful.
