What/how much cleaning do you do daily?

Just curious as my boyfriend says I do way to much anti bac cleaning of surfaces! (I have diagnosed OCD & anxiety).

Daily I:
•Wash up at least twice
•Wipe down all kitchen surfaces & cupboard/fridge door handles with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe front door and other door handles/baby gates with anti bac wipes.
•Wipe remotes & tables down with either anti bac spray or wipes.
•Put at least 2 loads of washing in & out on the driers.
•Anti bac spray the sink before bed and clean it.

Weekly I:
•Bleach and anti bac wipe the toilet
•Clean the bath
•Anti bac spray the sink and rinse with hot water (usually do this sometimes 3x a week)
•Hoover twice (Boyfriend does this usually)

Am I crazy or to neurotic?
We ran out of anti bac wipes yesterday and I've been freaking out about not having them! He's just gone off to the shop to get an emergency supply before I go to Aldi tomorrow for a big stock up.

Oh and I don't use any anti-bac... unless I cook poultry. I feel like it kills your immune system and is bad for the environment.

ethelredonagoodday · 19/02/2019 21:14

God I feel so lazy reading this. I do washing, wash any pots that can't go in dishwasher, wipe kitchen surfaces... err that's it.
We do have a cleaner who comes weekly, but I really do minimal cleaning beyond that... BlushBlushBlush

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:14

@ApolloandDaphne it's not rational I know. I just think handles are germy due to being outside and touching other things.

We change our bed sheets once a week and I change my pillow case every night.

Tcga745 · 19/02/2019 21:14

Daily? None
Occasionally... a bit.
Too boring

babysharkah · 19/02/2019 21:14

I don't think I have ever cleaned my front door or door handles. It has honestly never occurred to me. I'll wipe down the fridge
Door or kitchen cabinets from time time.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:15

@Tcga745 it's not boring for me, takes 30-40mins max out of my day. (Usually in the evening) it calms me tbh.

Yes, to be honest it dies sound like your ocd and anxiety is causing you to overuse anti bac products.

I have never bought anti bac wipes or bleach or many products that peddle the whole anti bac spiel. I try to avoid anti bacterial products altogether, but if you need to use it maybe you could change to reusable cloths. And maybe try to cut down from daily to weekly for doors, handles, remotes, etc. Or, would you try a quick wipe daily, but with washing up liquid and a cloth rather than stronger chemicals. It really can't be good for your health or for your kids health.

If you find you can't cut back on either frequency or strength of products, perhaps you should have a chat with your gp to see if they can help.

I clean the kitchen surfaces with hot water and washing up liquid after every meal. Doors probably get cleaned every 3 months, again with washing up liquid. Handles more often or itlf they're sticky.

We have some sort of bathroom spray from Lidl for bathrooms that we use once a week. And a toilet duck type cleaner for the bowl.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:16

I'm no Mrs Hinch by the way, I don't use random amounts of zoflora or 100 different kinds of cleaner!

Just standard anti bac wipes, anti bac spray, bleach or laundry detergents.

MargotSimpson · 19/02/2019 21:17

How many people in your house that you do two loads of washing a day?

The wipes are bad for the environment but otherwise I don’t think you’re too excessive

mizu · 19/02/2019 21:18

Guineapiglet you sound like me. I work full time. I try and hoover once a week. Bathroom gets done maybe once a week if we're lucky.

MrsJBaptiste · 19/02/2019 21:18

Do you not feel bad for using so many wipes? Please stop using them. If you have to wipe things down as much as you do then use a spray and cloth or just a wet cloth as I'm sure your house is very clean anyway!

Things I do...
Wipe the kitchen/bathroom down after every use
Dust once a week
Hoover the whole house once a week & the kitchen every other day
Fully clean the bathroom once a week
Hoover my car every other week & have it washed once a month

ScafellPoke · 19/02/2019 21:19

What’s so dirty about the outdoors?

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:20

@SpacePenguin I had an appointment with my psychiatrist recently and he took me off the Prozac as he says it's obviously not working (I still do all the things on it and have daily panic attacks).

They can't offer any more CBT as I've had it so much in the past and wasn't able to change the cleaning and hand washing amounts I do daily.

It's exhausting. I would honestly spend all day wiping handles and things down with anti bac wipes if I could! I'm a Law student, study online from home. I hate going to public places/uni's as there are so many germs. Much prefer being in my own bubble.

I have recently graduated to eating out in the last 2 years! So that's good.

I don't eat meat and often cook meals but throw them away if I feel there's a risk of food poisoning (usually happens when I'm cooking fish!) I always over cook too but still can't eat it.

guineapiglet Bedding every 3 months? And I thought I was bad doing them every 2-3 weeks!

donajimena · 19/02/2019 21:20

Tomorrow I'll do 7 hours cleaning. But I'll get paid for it as I'm a cleaner. I do naff all at home apart from kitchen surfaces loos and sinks (dishes obviously daily). I can't face it when I do it for 30 hours a week outside the home.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:21

@MargotSimpson 2 of us. I get through a lot of towels and pillow cases and kitchen towels, clothes I usually wear once then wash unless I wore them to bed clean/didn't go out that day.

It's really bad, I know. My boyfriend is great though, he finds humour in it and takes the piss which helps relax me a tad!

Flowers op sorry i wasn’t saying you dont do your toilet enough please dont let that get to you It wasn’t my intention!!

I just meant cleaning the front door daily but not the toilet just baffled me. But i find myself giving the bathroom a quick once over daily but only really do the front door when it’s looking filthy and even then takes me ages to bother.

So i was just suprised you did it daily as with handles/gates etc but not the toilet handle for example but not all anxiety issues are the same and im now questioning myself as to why i dont do foor handles more lol!!
I am really phobic of germs so i know how hard it is not to do the tasks your mind is telling you MUST be done.
I do use diluted zoflora in a spray bottle you can get a pet friendly one maybe try that on the handles and gates etc it leaves a nice scent and i find when i go back into the room and it still smells nice i feel as of the germs are still being battled.
Its a continuous stress on your brain when the anxiety has its grip on you so i do feel for you op xx

PalmTree101 · 19/02/2019 21:24

I don’t really use anti bac

House gets a proper clean on the cleaners day.

Rest of the time things get wiped down as and when they are used - so I do a kitchen clear down after cooking but use washing up liquid hot soapy water to do the surfaces.

I wouldn’t ever clean the TV remotes!

Guineapiglet345 · 19/02/2019 21:25

@mizu I work 4 days and I spend my three days off out and about, but I grew up with a mother who was obsessed with cleaning, she cleans the whole house top to bottom every day and nothing is allowed to be out of place so I kind of enjoy the freedom of being a bit grubby Grin

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:25

@ScafellPoke people, children (more likely to spread germs), illness etc.

It's so sad because I'd love to have a child in the future but I don't think I'd cope and I wouldn't want to inflict any of my ocd influences onto them.

My dad has it too.

I have OCD which is mostly pretty well contained. I wipe down the kitchen surfaces twice a day- more if dp makes a sandwich the crumbs give me the rage Grin
Bathroom and toilet daily. Light switches I clean several times a day at the minute. They are brushed steel and the fingerprints drive me mad.
Sweep and mop the floors about 4/5 times a week. Hoover the carpets twice a week.
I used to get through a ridiculous amount of anti bac wipes on a daily basis. I’ve switched to using colour coded cloths which I wash after every use. They go in a basket in the utility room and are boiled washed once I’ve got a full load.

minieggsqueen · 19/02/2019 21:26

@Betsy86 it's okay!! Don't worry, you weren't the first to mention the toilet. I'm sorry you are phobic too, it's the worst isn't it? Makes you feel so isolated.SadThanks

Thanks for the zoflora tip, it would be nice to have a nicer smelling cleaning product! I always worry with the pup that I'll get him ill. xx

bubblegumbottles · 19/02/2019 21:27

I do about the same as you OP except I hoover the most used rooms every day and probably do the loo every other day.

waxygoodness · 19/02/2019 21:27

Have a look at the Facebook group called Team Tomm Ready to Rock the housework. Its a really good plan of daily, weekly and deep clean tasks which is manageable and it's a really supportive group.
