To think Marie Kondo's clothes storage method is bat shit??

Not actually sure why but I'm watching Tidying Up on Netflix.

I was a bit when she started talking about holding each item & it sparking joy then saying thank you to the items they were throwing away but I've preserved to them reorganising the clothes they're keeping.

A T-shirt is folded down to the size of a purse then they're all stored upwards facing in a drawer. I do actually think it would be good to be able to see them all at a glance but surely everything would come out like a dish cloth it's got that many fold lines in.

Then the jeans.... 6 folds!!

It's magic, doesn't crease them at all. My drawers spark joy now

But don't they just start falling over anyway by the time you have worn a week's worth of tops?

Yes, don't they need ironing after all that? I've done my pants and vests though and they look great!
With everything else I just do the pull everything out into a big pile bit then leave it.

Gah I think the same. I'm not a devout ironer, but clothes go on hangers to help avoid creases. If I folded a t shirt and put it in a drawer, it would look a right crinkly mess when I actually came to wear it.

Works well for me. And the clothes are definitely less creased than they were before from being dumped in the wardrobe and turned upside down when I was looking for a specific item which usually ends up somewhere at the bottom of the pile.

I did this with Dd’s Drawers. For the first time ever they have stayed organized for weeks. I don’t know how many ways I tried in the last decade. kondo’s method really does work. It’s like magic.

I'm a convert for t-shirts and most cotton tops and pants.

It works great for DS's tops because otherwise he'd make a big mess looking for one.

My only objection is that the true vertical folding ends up taking a bit too much space.

I love it, and anything that would get unwearably creased wouldn't be in a drawer anyway, but on a hanger. I've done all my kids' drawers that way too and I no longer go into their rooms and find EVERYTHING pulled out because they wanted the top that was on the bottom of the pile and its friends all decided to join the party.

I have adapted her method to fit the height of each drawer (because my life is empty and I have nothing better to do, apparently) so that space is maximised.

Anyone who thinks 31 books is too many is batshit. I don't have a lot of time for Marie Kondo.

She's only 34! I thought she was older than me not that she looks old because she doesn't. I just presumed that she was a youthful looking older woman. If I won the lottery I'd hire her to sort all my junk out.

It's great to be able to properly see what you've got in the drawers. You can fit more in too and I haven't noticed a problem with creasing. The only negative for me is the extra time it takes.

My DCs and I all have oodles of black teeshirts. Is there a version of the folding that shows the front printing so that we can tell which is which?!

YABU. I fold my kids' clothes this way and they don't wrinkle at all.

@Tavannach She never said you should only have 30 books. She said she prefers to keep only 30 books at a time. She says you can keep as many as spark joy for you.

I’ve done my knickers and bra drawer and although it looks nice, I am finding I’m having to take a few out each morning and put them back which is a bit irritating. I have 20 black knickers and they all look the same folded up but are all different and sometimes you just want a particular pants!

I have bought loads of container type things and have found her methods really useful for cupboards of random stuff.

I don't think she's a reader. She seemed to be talking about textbooks or self help books rather than beautiful novels and childhood favourites that you've read 400 times already.

I hate folded clothes.... that’s what wardrobes and hangers are for.

I’ve used her folding method for a few years. It’s brilliant, when I did husband’s drawer her couldn’t believe all the t shirts he had. They’d been lurking unseen at the bottom of the drawer.

I did OHs T shirts and told him I'd definitely divorce him if he pulled them all out. He looked scared and said he'd treat it as a lucky dip and just pick the closest one.

I’ve spent the afternoon doing various items and my drawers look amazing. I keep pulling them out to have another look
I find watching the series great inspiration for then getting up and chucking stuff.

I kondo fold my clothes. Anything that would crease a lot is hanging in wardrobe anyway. The the shirts and jeans etc in my drawer are no worse off for having been folded.

There’s no way I can follow most of her method - feel too guilty when I get rid of things but I do love her folding, my sock drawer still sparks joy 4 years after I started it! My DDs drawers are done this way so u can pick a vest or sleepsuit without rifling through them all. When I clear out my wardrobe I’m going to do the same with all my folded clothes. I don’t iron anyway!

If you want to spend hours every week folding all your clothing into perfect rectangles then carry on. I literally cba. I get t shirts out of the washing machine and put them on hangers to dry on the clothes airer. Then they get moved upstairs and directly into people's wardrobes with no ironing or folding stage in between. Must save myself hours doing it this way.
