Just want an opinion if I should complain or not?
I ordered a veggie meal on a plane and they told me they didn't have one for me.
Showed them my confirmation which said Asia Vegetarian on my booking.
They blamed my travel agent and just shrugged, not their fault , nothing they can do.
I was offered fish or chicken instead.
This was a 10 hour flight!!
I ate bread rolls and cheese.
WWYD complain or not.?

I would complain the meal you’d arranged wasn’t there - being offered fish wouldn’t be an extra annoyance to me I don’t think. I’d just be cross that there wasn’t anything I could eat.

Iruka · 01/02/2019 12:51

I would complain to the company because you didn't get what you ordered but I wouldn't be offended.

Some people claim to be vegetarian and eat all kinds of animal products, some people just don't understand what it means.

They could have made more effort to find you something suitable to eat but the actual staff on board couldn't find a veggie meal that wasn't there.

flumpybear · 01/02/2019 12:51

Which airline was it? Personally I'd have eaten around it or just had the fish if you eat fish, it was just a mistake

You should get the money you paid for the food back, it's probably
Lumped in with the ticket price though as it's over 4 hours

Did they offer you other things like sandwich, snacks etc?

greendale17 · 01/02/2019 12:52

No need to be offended is there

RiverTam · 01/02/2019 12:52

yes, I would complain. The staff sound like utter dingbats.

3boysandabump · 01/02/2019 12:53

There isn't usually an option for pescatarian so some people who ask for a veggie meal may actually eat fish. Also some people pick veggie/vegan options because of allergies so may be ok with the alternatives offered. So no I wouldn't be offended that they had tried to find an alternative.

Definitely complain to the company about a lack of suitable meal though.

whatacrapusername2306 · 01/02/2019 12:53

Yes, complain. Would they have made a mistake if it was for religious reasons? We had a flight to the US recently. Veggie meal ordered for me, chicken ordered for my DD. Like most children, she doesn’t like spicy food. They had no recollection of a childs meal, so gave her a spicy pork and rice dish. She only ate the extra bits that came with it (crackers etc). She was beside herself with hunger by the time we arrived.

Wildcate · 01/02/2019 12:55

Offended? YABU

Making a complaint? YANBU

littlepeas · 01/02/2019 12:55

This happened to me recently on an Emirates flight - they did eventually find my meal, it was sitting on the side somewhere and just hadn't been handed out. I don't think you can really complain about being offered fish - they were just trying to do their best with what they had on offer and some people who order the vegetarian meal may well eat fish or even chicken (I eat fish but I order the veggie meal, as obviously there is no guarantee of a fish option). It is crap that your meal wasn't ordered - I would complain about that.

whatacrapusername2306 · 01/02/2019 12:56

and I shared mine with her too, just incase anyone thinks I would let her sit and watch me stuff my face GrinGrin

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 01/02/2019 12:57

offended
Dictionary result for offended
/əˈfɛndɪd/
adjective
adjective: offended

resentful or annoyed, typically as a result of a perceived insult.

I'm no sure how you were insulted. Inconvenienced may be, but insulted ?

flamboyantchorizo · 01/02/2019 12:57

just had the fish if you eat fish

Someone completely missed the point of the thread.

arethereanyleftatall · 01/02/2019 12:59

You shouldn't be offended as many many people call themselves vegetarians and eat fish, it may be wrong, but it happens. They weren't to know what 'type' you were. There was also fuck all they could do about it once you were airborne.
That said, a mistake has been made sonewhere, so it's fine to complain since you would have paid for a meal.

halfwitpicker · 01/02/2019 13:00

Yeah man fish isn't veggie

birdladyfromhomealone · 01/02/2019 13:00

I just ate the roll and cheese from the lunch, asked them to remove the hot fish dish and the tuna Nicoise salad.
They were really unhelpful.
Take it or leave it.
At least they could have given me spare rolls and cheese.
In 10 hours I had 1 roll with cheese and a small fruit salad.
And at tea time a scone and jam as the sandwiches were ham or chicken.
I did say to the purser how would he feel to have no food for 10 hours. He just shrugged. I also told him it was really insulting that he thought I would eat fish as a vegetarian.

I'm a bit puzzled, if you are a vegetarian and don't eat fish, which is fair enough, how come you were willing to eat cheese? Was it vegetarian cheese?

I'm not trying to be goady, it's a genuine question.

If you didn't get what you ordered then yes, I would complain.

Waveysnail · 01/02/2019 13:01

Misleading title - airline didn't have any veggie meals iabu

MotherofDinosaurs · 01/02/2019 13:03

Well I might say no thanks to it OP but I wouldn't be 'offended'. They've offered you food, they haven't called you a colossal bellend or anything...

whatacrapusername2306 · 01/02/2019 13:06

pigsdofly....vegetarians eat cheese. It’s vegans that don’t.

icannotremember · 01/02/2019 13:06

I had an argument with the ward staff when in hospital having my eldest, who insisted that as I did not eat fish I was a vegan. I may have been a bit shirty with them over it I may also have waved a packet of cheese strings at them and demanded to know would a vegan be eating these for fuck's sake.

arethereanyleftatall · 01/02/2019 13:10

So, forgetting about what you label yourself; you were offered food that has a negative impact on animals (cheese) and that was fine, and you were offered food that has a negative impact on animals (fish) and that was insulting and offensive?

Mia1415 · 01/02/2019 13:13

Maybe the crew didn't realise you were a vegetarian.

I sometimes order a vegetarian meal, but I'm not a vegetarian.

CalmDownPacino · 01/02/2019 13:13

I would complain without hesitation. Vegetarians don't eat fish. You paid for and should have been provided with a suitable meal.

Wildcate · 01/02/2019 13:15

pigsdofly....vegetarians eat cheese. It’s vegans that don’t.

Couple of exceptions to this tho (although I doubt that’s what pigs was referring too. Parmesan isn’t vegetarian for eg.

CalmDownPacino · 01/02/2019 13:15

I can't agree that it is insulting. It's annoying and it is poor customer service and of course you should have been fed but insulting is reaching, imo.
