Warwick Police haven't prosecuted anyone for these vile rape threats and Warwick uni are now letting (some of?) the perpetrators back in to study at the same university alongside those they discussed threatening to rape.

Would you be happy sending your child here?

Have you heard about this case? What is happening that’s makes this ok?

gluteustothemaximus · 02/02/2019 14:37

leesylou - that's horrific. WTAF is going on?!?

FanfictionFan · 02/02/2019 14:45

That's horrific, why do they keep putting the males and their futures over the lives of the females who have had their lives ruined?

pumpkin1976 · 02/02/2019 14:46

Here here cnamechanger, well said. The irony of this all is that Warwick will probably go out of its way now in the future to stamp out these kind of behaviours (regardless of what you think about their decision making recently)

The VC can’t win right now. From what I know about him he’s a decent person, as are many of the administration/managers at Warwick.

I’d send my daughter there. It’s no more unsafe than any other bloody university. If you don’t want to send your offspring there on principle, because of the decision they’ve made, that’s your choice but if it’s because it’s somehow unsafe then I disagree, respectfully.

I also agree with GCacademic, some of the snobbery on here is very funny. I went to Warwick and surprisingly to some grew up on a council estate.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/02/2019 15:04

I wouldn’t be as happy about it as I would have been, in fact I will encourage mixed race ds to avoid it when chosing next year.
(Course he’ll probably ignore me)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/02/2019 15:21

What?? Did not deserve a place on merit? I assume you are talking about contextual offers? I think you'll find they are totally about getting a place on merit and getting bloody good results despite the shitty schools they go to.

THIS ^

That is particularly worrying - dentists often have unconscious/ heavily sedated people in their surgeries.

This case came up a decade ago in my area

I'm having long-term treatment at Dundee Dental Hospital - by post-grads - but I'll certainly be asking which university he's at and expressing my disgust. I think there are only three Scottish universities offering dentistry.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/02/2019 15:38

Dental, like medical, students are extremely well supervised TooMany. I doubt very much that any of them (even the few who are so inclined) would be given the opportunity to take advantage of a patients.

pumpkin1976 · 02/02/2019 16:12

Are people now double checking if men went to or go to Warwick so they can be safer, as they feel they’re more of a risk? Have I read that right?

pumpkin1976 · 02/02/2019 16:14

Apologies just read the posts properly! Didn’t have my specs on!

sonatuni · 02/02/2019 16:58

Helmet my DS is mixed race and very happily there with a very multi cultural group of friends (from a very wide range of social backgrounds.)

Helmetbymidnight · 02/02/2019 17:03

That’s good to know - it was very white/mc when I was there many moons ago.

Scabetty · 02/02/2019 17:10

Dd goes to an East London comprehensive where majority of sixth form are from SE Asian heritage. Warwick is so popular with them that a group of 12 are going on an offers day this week.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/02/2019 17:19

If I were the parent of one of these young men (God forbid), there is no way I would be supporting them or encouraging them to go back to Warwick. Firstly, I would have torn them a new one, for being such a vile specimen of humanity. Then I would have to,d them they deserved every punishment and more, from the University, and then I would have to,d them that there was no way they should even consider going back to the same university as their victims.

MerdedeBrexit · 02/02/2019 17:43

Very good open letter from one of the complainants to the Stuart Croft, the Vice-Chancellor, in the student newspaper "The Boar" theboar.org/2019/02/to-stuart-croft-the-victims-should-always-have-been-the-focus/ published this evening. (I'll copy and paste it here if anyone wants, it's long.)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/02/2019 17:46

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius yup 100%. I'd also be mortified that he was anything to do with me and wonder where I'd gone wrong. I'd be ashamed, really ashamed.

danceyourselfsilly · 02/02/2019 17:56

excellent letter - I hope it gets widely reported - couldn't have put it better - VC definately came across as self obsessed and patronising (what was that description of visceral if not) - he justified every decision made whilst totally forgetting that the Victim/s did NOT feel safe, were NOT happy
I did not know what an incel was - I have been googling it and it makes interesting if disturbing reading

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/02/2019 18:33

Thank you for that link Merde - it is an excellent letter and I hope it reaches a wider audience.

I also hope that every pub and club in Warwick displays the pictures of these vile men and refuses them entry/ service. That might go some very small way to helping the victims feel supported and perhaps a little safer. It will certainly help them to feel validated, I think.

I know that if I had a business in the area there is no way I'd want them polluting my premises.

WokerThanWoke · 02/02/2019 19:37

Bloody good on her for calling him out on that terrible letter.

She says someone during the process said one of the victims was an “unreliable witness” - this is no “he said she said” case, what they said is there in black and white. It’s not about her or what she did or can/can’t remember? They have screenshots of what the men said.

It just gets worse and worse.

leesylou · 02/02/2019 20:01

SchadenfreudePersonified - disgusting, but at least he got punished. The pond life in the article I linked to sexually assaulted a child, was found guilty, but faced no punishment. It makes you wonder who he is/who his parents are??? I don’t want to live in a world where this is acceptable behaviour!

Ickle37 · 02/02/2019 21:37

I think for those who have been attacked and experienced rape, this must be so hard. However, language has evolved, uses of it have changed and I find it difficult to condemn for life some stupid “ boys” who thought their ‘ bants’ were funny. Totally inappropriate, appalling and deserved their year ban. For life, no degree? I am not sure. I know many groups of girls over chat who deem guys ‘ rapey’ for just seeing them to a taxi- its a term banded around. It doesnt make it ok. Flippantly using these words is silly and crass. However, these young adults are just guilty of arrogance, bad judgment and stupidity. They didnt rape anyone, nor threaten physically anyone. Do you honestly think their lives should be ruined , forever?

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 02/02/2019 21:44

Ickle how does the evolution of language justify racism? Or sexual torture? Or deciding how believable a victim of sexual assault is depending on how attractive she is? The things they said, the violence and the graphic content was never acceptable, isn't now and never will be, no matter how language changes.

And they could get a degree, just not at that university or at the same time as the same girls/women they humiliated , threatened and dehumanised for "banter".

MotherOfDragonite · 02/02/2019 21:47

"Do you honestly think their lives should be ruined , forever?"

I really don't think their lives are being ruined at all. They can go to university somewhere else. They have no criminal records.

What is really shocking is that Warwick should have LET THEM RETURN to university, with no regard for the safety or psychological wellbeing of their victims. Nobody is arguing that the chats didn't happen, and it's pretty clear that they were fairly hideous and would have left a lasting scar on the victims.

Surely the least they could have done was ban them until the victims had finished their courses.

MotherOfDragonite · 02/02/2019 21:48

And just to put the seriousness of this into perspective, people have been put into prison for what they've defended as "just banter" about potential terrorist acts.
