To cry over a haircut 😭

ISaidDemiMoore · 29/01/2019 19:01

I went in for a bob type hair cut and came out with the back and one of the sides completely cut short short. My hairdresser is usually so so good and I honestly don’t know what must have come over her. I showed her pictures of exactly what I wanted and I had plenty of hair to work with. Now, every time I look in the mirror or touch my hair I want to cry. It didn’t look so bad at the time or maybe I was just in shock so I made all of the right noises and comments when it was finished. She even asked me if she’d cut it too short and I was like, noooooo it’s fine. Why did I say that? I even went back the next morning because my fringe wasn’t quite sitting right and I asked her to trim a bit off and I STILL didn’t say anything. In fact I was telling her the opposite and how easy life will be with this new hair cut. Seriously what is wrong with me, maybe I was still in denial and trying to convince myself. Problem is, she is a lovely lady. She’s probably in her late 40’s or early 50’s and has a daughter about my age, always asks after my kids, remembers their names and what they like and she is just generally so friendly. So I feel like I can’t say anything. Would saying anything or emailing the salon actually be worth it, aside from just making her feel shit? But then I think, I feel so shit, I’m left with this hair I hate and she has no idea. It looks ok from the front but awful from the back. I wouldn’t have minded this much but in a couple of weeks I’m having a reunion with some old friends and I wanted to look good and feel confident.

What should I do? Is it worth contacting the salon or do I just try and get over it. Especially as I’d already said it was fine 🙄

I don’t think it’s worth contacting them at this point, especially as you went back to get something fixed.

Have you had a look online for ideas on how to style it to make it look a little nicer? Besides add extensions (if they offer it), I don’t see what they will be able to do.

Just remember that it grows back and how it looks st the front is what is most important as nobody sees the back until you are leaving ;)

MakeMineALarge1 · 29/01/2019 19:07

OMG, yes I would be crying.
Did you show them a picture of what you wanted?
'You poor thing I am crying with you x

Sexnotgender · 29/01/2019 19:08

YANBU! I’ve cried over my hair before.

That’s totally not what you asked for Confused I’d ask for your money back.

FickleFingers · 29/01/2019 19:08

OP I know it's not what you asked for but it looks really nice!!!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/01/2019 19:08

I feel your pain as I have a similar problem. In tribute to (not talking about, oh no!) another thread, I look like a Lego person. Annoyingly the hairdresser did exactly what I asked her to! 🙄

It'll grow OP, as will mine. Sigh.

wormymary · 29/01/2019 19:08

Sorry, x posted with your pics.

If it makes you deel any better, it will look like how you wanted it in a few months. You can wear a nice big scarf in this weather and so the back won’t matter

Turniptracker · 29/01/2019 19:10

I would be crying :( hopefully it won't take too long to grow out. I wouldn't complain either, hate confrontation!

SpiritedLondon · 29/01/2019 19:10

That’s not actually you though is it?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/01/2019 19:10

Ha ha - just saw your pictures. I got what you asked for! The grass is always greener...

Reccy2018 · 29/01/2019 19:11

We know that, Spirit, it's to demonstrate without outing the OP I imagine

Cheerbear23 · 29/01/2019 19:11

I’m not sure going back will be worth it now, as you’ve already have said a couple of time youvlike it. I understand it’s not what you wanted but the picture does look nice, I would suggest styling it out with big earrings & bold make up.
My hairdresser gave me a mullet a couple of years ago, I had to have it short to get rid of it 🙈 I was gutted!

SpiritedLondon · 29/01/2019 19:12

Ok well that hair could be very chic. Has it got a sweepy long bit at the front or is it short all over? You could ask for a refund but obviously they’re not going to be able to give you the style you wanted.

shadypines · 29/01/2019 19:12

OP completely feel for you as this happened to me once when I was trying to grow my hair into a bob, someone (though not a hairdresser I 'd had before) completely messed it up so I ended up going to a different salon the same day to try and look half decent. It was many years ago but I'm sure I shed quite a few tears that day!

The trouble is once it's gone too short there's not a lot you can do until you wait for it to grow. I think if you want to go back to this woman you should perhaps wait until you don't so raw as you do now and then have a word with her. (If you ring her all upset then she'll get upset and you'll both prob feel worse) I think she needs to know that she should check with you thoroughly at the outset and more often as she's actually cutting it, exactly how much you want taking off, to avoid future upset.

Hope you feel better soon (like a spot, it prob doesn't look half as bad as you think!) and you'll have a lovely bob in the not too distant future.

ISaidDemiMoore · 29/01/2019 19:13

I wish my hair even looked as good as the model in that second pic. I just chose that to show how short she’s cut it. It’s kind of like that but with a weird long layer on top that hasn’t been blended properly. My DH is being lovely and saying that it looks great but it’s just so not what I wanted. He suggested maybe going to somewhere else to get it tidied up a bit if it’s really bothering me, but that would probably mean going even shorter at the back.

shadypines · 29/01/2019 19:15

Sorry,I don't think my last sentence came out right, your short style prob looks really nice but YOU notice it and it's not what you want is what I was trying to say.

MotherOfDragons90 · 29/01/2019 19:17

Flowers OP, YANBU.

I had the same thing happen to me last week, only with a colour rather than a cut. I cried all Thursday night and have made an appointment with a different hairdresser to fix it as the trust has totally gone!

Can you do similar?

Mitsouko67 · 29/01/2019 19:17

No YANBU. Same thing happened to me last year and I cried too. It's just a shock.
We ladies (most of us anyway) need our hair!

Feel better soon. Treat yourself.x

SpiritedLondon · 29/01/2019 19:17

It’s so grim when hairdressers go rogue. Could you do something like this?

To cry over a haircut 😭
ISaidDemiMoore · 29/01/2019 19:20

Love your username shadypines. I will just wait for it to grow. I can only assume she was having a weird day, it was a Friday late afternoon, maybe she got carried away with chatting, who knows. Usually she’ll bring the hair to my face before cutting and say something like, “this length ok?” Before making the actual snip. Not that day though :(

Extra make up for a few weeks it shall be, no good on the school run though, maybe I’ll dig out a couple of hats. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one to cry over hair though 🙈

PatchworkElmer · 29/01/2019 19:22

This happened to me. Had lovely long (boob length) hair which I asked to go into a longish bob to help balance out post partum hair loss. Hairdresser gave me a really extreme graduated bob, so short at the back that she used a razor! I hated it. I felt so exposed, and it was really high maintenance. And my attitude to hair normally is ‘whatever, it’ll grow’. I’d used that hairdresser for 10 years, but I can’t bring myself to go back- I feel I don’t look like myself in most of the photos of my son’s first year.

On the plus side OP, it won’t take yours long to grow to the length you actually wanted. Mine’s nearly back to boob length, 2 years on! What would help you feel more confident- maybe some nice makeup?

PatchworkElmer · 29/01/2019 19:23

Sorry, cross posted with you OP

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 29/01/2019 19:25

I have a bob, they often cut it shorter than you think so it grows into the look in the 1st picture but 2nd pic is different all together!!

ISaidDemiMoore · 29/01/2019 19:25

motherofdragons I’m so sorry, I hope that the new hairdresser is able to make it better for you. The annoying thing is the cost too right? It’s so expensive to get your hair coloured and then to have it do it straight away again is just so unfair.
