to think that £150 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a toaster

and even more unreasonable to have actually considered doing so (especially as we are a bit boracic just now).

I mean, is it REALLY going to make better toast than the £19.99 jobby from argos, or do i just want it to look pretty (very 50's retro) But seriously, does it make a difference? I remember my mother giving us quite an expensive toaster ages ago and it made shite toast, although it wasnt £150.

We have been making toast on the grill for years now because of the shite toaster but now i want a toaster and cant decide on £9.99 or saving up for an all singing all dancing toaster in primrose yellow and shiny chrome.

Morning all! Have just made toast on my lovely dualit toaster. It does 4 slices at once, so whole family happily toasted up in one go! We have had our dualit for almost 8 years, still going strong!

Best bit about it is the toaster 'cages' we have - lovely toasted cheese sandwiches for lunch on a rainy day!

Had a brabantia bin too (the soft touch lid one, rubbish that was, worst £80 I ever spent)

I draw the line at designer loo brushes though - once you get poo on them bristles - yuck!!

I would agree that brabantia bins are rubbish - mine went in the skip. It really really was the worst money we have ever spent on a kitchen item.

So....which is the BEST over priced posh kettle then?

We have a Dualit. Two slice one though so slightly cheaper. But it is great. It looks good in the kitchen, matches other stuff we have, and it works well.

We didn't spend money we didn't have or anything to buy it, so does it matter to anyone selse really what I chose to buy?

Washersaurus · 01/07/2007 12:35

OMG lapin that toaster is even more expensive than the dualit!!!

£150?????? Is it gold plated or something?

You could by 6 £25 toasters for that and feed an army

hotbot · 01/07/2007 16:02

i love my dualit... sorry,

SoupDragon · 01/07/2007 16:03

I love my 4 slice chrome Dualit one. And it repairable unlike cheaper ones (I had to replace one of the elements recently after, oooh, 7 years)

80sMum · 01/07/2007 16:09

My toaster was £4.99 from Sainsbury's. Works fine!
£150?? What does it do, apart from make toast?

LadyTophamHatt · 01/07/2007 16:12

My brother and SIL wenttout shopping for a dualit toaster a while ago.

I laughed at them!

MADNESS!

SoupDragon · 01/07/2007 16:16

It all depends how long your toaster lasts though doesn't it?

My mum has a toaster that cost her £9.99 about 14 years ago and it is still going strong.

NuttyMuffins · 01/07/2007 16:20

She uses it every day too.

SoupDragon · 01/07/2007 16:21

Mine was free 10 years ago and has been in use every day

that is the most revolting piece of furniture I've ever seen

looks like a cross between a hostess trolley and a dog kennel

all for the bargain price of £150

We have a dualit, and love it. We have lots of toast, every day, and will be doing so for years to come. Buy cheap, buy twice. (obviously not for everything, but for many things)

wheresthehamster · 01/07/2007 17:22

But what do you do with the lamp when you have the top open?

Put it on your lap?

AttilaTheMum · 01/07/2007 17:25

You don't think I'd ever have the laptop off it do you?
