From Bette Davis, who was too canny to name names. Smile

Here is the old thread:

NEW: Source: Ahead of deadline, the Trump admin is expected to "double down on defending" the Saudi crown prince, and repeat that there is "no smoking gun" linking him directly to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

just established thru Whitaker testimony that 1) no member of the Trump family (including Trump) is constitutionally protected from criminal prosecution ✅ and 2) there is no emergency at the southern border ✅. Very impressive use of his time. Well done.

Praise for a ruthless dictator, while he publicly shames and demeans his own top intelligence officials.

North Korea, under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, will become a great Economic Powerhouse. He may surprise some but he won’t surprise me, because I have gotten to know him & fully understand how capable he is. North Korea will become a different kind of Rocket - an Economic one!

TheNorthWestPawsage · 09/02/2019 08:51

POTUS is mirror-imaging. Kim Jong Un is not a subcontractor or a businessman from NYC. We can’t bribe our way to denuclearization. The nukes mean way more than $ could ever buy. #libya #iraq #ukraine
twitter.com/junghpak1/status/1094063241502822400?s=21

Exactly. I keep banging away at this point in my own writing too, bc Trump's gross ignorance is the huge flaw in this whole N Korea process. T doesn't read, doesn't listen to his briefers, and doesn't know anything about nukes, missiles, or Korea. So he just falls back on what /1
what he learned from his father and experiences in NYC real estate and media - bully, bribe, bluster, etc. But this won't work with NK, bc they do exactly the same, probably even better than Trump, plus they actually really care about these issues, where T couldn't give a damn. /2
Hence my big concern throughout this is 'process' is that Trump will just give stuff away to get a deal, bc his usual gimmicks don't work; he doesn't care about S Korea or US power in Asia; and he's so ignorant, he doesn't know what he's even giving up. Letting Trump, a mind- /3
bogglingly ignorant reality TV star, run denuclearization talks with a canny, terrifying state like North Korea is, if you really think about, fairly insane. END

Great demonstration by Ocasio-Cortez on how to use simple language and reasoning to address a fairly complex subject for most of the public.

Lweji · 09/02/2019 09:24

I agree with Trump that Kim Jong-Un is very capable. Unlike some other people.

What US ruling may mean for Roe v Wade
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-47176399

Just a few hours before a temporary stay expired at midnight, the US Supreme Court issued an injunction blocking implementation of new abortion restrictions in Louisiana.
[...]
The Supreme Court order was issued by the narrowest of margins. Five justices, including the four most liberal members and Chief Justice John Roberts, supported the injunction.

The four more conservative justices, including President Donald Trump's two recent appointments to the bench, would have let the law go into effect.

Imagine thinking you're not in an echo chamber and unironically linking to The Root.

You really should just take these threads private because it's becoming one cringe on top of another

I actually find the blatancy of Whitaker's behaviour quite sinister.

He might be thick as mince. Or he might be hugely confident that he has nothing to fear about overtly wallowing in the swamp – as long as this regime lasts, of course.

lionheart · 09/02/2019 22:47

I think he may have miscalculated somewhat.

Hope so.

Thanks for that link to the report about electoral stuff. I've bookmarked it to read when I'm less tired.

I don't know if I'll ever be up to doing much with it, but I'm still collecting material pertaining to voter suppression and electoral shenanigans. Some parts of the US are past masters, but alas I feel the UK is going to see more of this.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 09/02/2019 22:55

Duh! If you're on these threads you're probably left leaning and not necessarily white.

The Root publishes news and opinion stories with a focus on African-American perspective. Headlines and articles utilize moderately loaded words such as this: Bernie Sanders Takes on Unjust Cash Bail System, but Still Doesn’t Make Direct Connection to Institutional Racism. Story selection leans left with many stories on the topics of civil rights and institutional racism. The Root always sources there information to credible media sources that are typically high for factual reporting.

A factual search reveals that The Root has not failed a fact by an IFCN fact checker.

Overall, we rate The Root Left Biased based on story selection that favors the left and High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing of information.
