Sorry don’t know how to do a clicky link. I admire vegans but don’t have the willpower myself to give up cheese and fish and realistically never will. Witnessing this kind of protest would irritate me though, especially if I was trying to get on with my shopping. What do you think, admirable or annoying?

Annoying I eat what I choose you eat what you choose

maximumcarnage · 14/01/2019 16:09

I don't mind anyone being passionate in some belief, be it religon, meat, politics, whatever. Doesn't bother me at all. What bothers me is when someone tries to ram a message down your throat. Then I have a problem with it. If you are a vegan, good for you. If you want to stand outside the butchers protesting, knock yourself out.

But no one has the right to hurl insults or even get violent or obstructive. If that happens whatever noble message you may have been trying to sell is sarcificed. That goes for anything, not just vegans. I am not an especially big meat eater either! I wouldn't stand for it, not for a nano second.

CmdrIvanova · 14/01/2019 16:10

They're dicks. They have a right to protest but they're quite clearly attempting to intimidate shoppers into not buying. Only for that the shop owner let them in (!) they would be guilty of aggravated trespass.

Pontingss · 14/01/2019 16:12

I wonder if the shop owner let them in as, apart from the immediate disruption, the free publicity/more customers for the shop?

Hopefully someone will go to their vegan shops with a few pounds of pork sausages to spread around,

There is a handy guide below the box where you post stuff -

I think their brains are shrinking from lack of protein. I'd turn the hose on them. Self-righteous, hypocritical twats.

I have very little respect for anyone who tries to force their beliefs on others. Even less for people willing to act in such an intimidating way to do so.

DeepDarkWoods · 14/01/2019 16:25

The thing is, it just puts people off veganism and they tar all vegans with the same brush.

TurnipCake · 14/01/2019 16:26

They remind me of anti-abortion protestors who try to harass women outside of clinics. They don't reduce the numbers, they're just there to intimidate.

JellyBears · 14/01/2019 16:26

Their vile!! Eat what you want but protesting in supermarkets and restaurants is just unacceptable. We’ve as a species eaten meat for thousands of years and it’s farmed as humanly as possible if you buy local responsibly sourced meat.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/01/2019 16:27

Morons...i still would like any vegan advise as to what would happen to all the pigs, sheep and cows if the world were to become vegan (farmers wouldnt look after them for free)

baddayattheoffice · 14/01/2019 16:28

I think they're brilliant!

DeepDarkWoods · 14/01/2019 16:30

Also imagine everyone became vegan. What about pets, who would kill the animals to feed them?

gimmeadoughnut123 · 14/01/2019 16:31

I don't mind people being vegan but don't like it being rammed down my throat. I will eat with vegan friends, go to vegan restaurants with them, as long as they don't lecture me on my usual dietary habits.

A farmers shop near me got vandalised by vegan protesters because of advertising his Christmas turkeys (go and pick your own turkey etc whilst it's alive). His sales more than tripled as a result.

Isleepinahedgefund · 14/01/2019 16:31

It reminds me of the animal rights activists in the 90s who terrorised a local port for a long while. In the name of saving the calves/sheep (I forget which) they deliberately mortally injured police horses by slashing their hamstrings with knives.

These sort of things attract a certain type of people.

JellyBears · 14/01/2019 16:31

@OnlyFoolsnMothers thank you!!! I’ve been saying this for years! I’m from a farming background and there not much money in livestock or dairy alone.

Pontingss · 14/01/2019 16:34

@baddayattheoffice are you a vegan yourself? Or a vegan protester even?

Thank you to the pp for the clickable link info!

DeRigueurMortis · 14/01/2019 16:36

I support the to right to peacefully protest but this isn't what they are doing.

They are standing in front of the shop and within it, in front of the isles in a deliberate attempt to intimidate and stop access to prevent people shopping.

It's totally counter productive and serves only to turn people off reducing their consumption of animal products because the majority of people don't like being bullied by evangelical twits.

11yrgap · 14/01/2019 16:36

I just think looking at them in the pictures they all look like they have little life experience and think they're so 'out there' and going to change the world. They'll grow up,have to get proper jobs and realise noone actually cares what they say.

I try to listen to other people's opinions but not in that kind of context. Has the opposite effect on me and I think they've targetted someone who is actually trying to do a good thing.

NotCopingWithThis · 14/01/2019 16:36

‘Lined the isles’... the British Isles DM?

Madwithjealousy · 14/01/2019 16:37

I expect anti-slavery protesters faced the same backlash at some point.

DeRigueurMortis · 14/01/2019 16:38

Not Gringood riff on a typo!!
