Sorry don’t know how to do a clicky link. I admire vegans but don’t have the willpower myself to give up cheese and fish and realistically never will. Witnessing this kind of protest would irritate me though, especially if I was trying to get on with my shopping. What do you think, admirable or annoying?

Like with everything else

Peaceful protest is ok

Non peaceful protest isnt

badlydrawnperson · 14/01/2019 17:06

I notice they haven't been targeting the Brighton Lidl next to the big council estate, funny that....

Good point - I thought the same. Maybe they'd like to try picketing the food bank?

BovrilOverkillOhMyInsides · 14/01/2019 17:08

@tillytrotter1 "Hopefully someone will go to their vegan shops with a few pounds of pork sausages to spread around,"

No, no, no, for FUCKS SAKE what is so fucking wrong with you. I'm not vegan. I'm omni. I eat whatever. But whatever fucking ridiculous stuff one group of vegans does or says, this kind of statement is ridiculously insulting, demeaning and threatening. And makes every person who says it sound like a bigoted cunt. It's almost pretty much like suggesting throwing ham at a mosque. It's one thing to be disgruntled with someone's beliefs but one vegan, or one group of vegans, does not represent every other vegan in existence. And nor should any of them have to put up with ignorant, cuntish statements like this.

climbs back down from soapbox

I hate being hormonal.

StoatofDisarray · 14/01/2019 17:10

DoodleLab Agreed!

nellieellie · 14/01/2019 17:13

If you’re going to target someone, then target the worst offenders - supermarkets who stock intensively farmed meat. That way, you’ll get some sympathy.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/01/2019 17:14

Or fast food chains that see suspiciously cheap ‘meat’.

LunaLunitaLunera · 14/01/2019 17:18

It's more offensive that so many animals are killed everyday. But the way they are protesting in wrong wrong wrong.

BejamNostalgia · 14/01/2019 17:19

They only do it to feel superior and virtue signal. It achieves nothing and they know that. It’s just a socialising activity for them.

darklady64 · 14/01/2019 17:21

DS's girlfriend is a vegan. She never pushes her beliefs onto anyone, won't go on about it and if eating at someone's house who hasn't realised she is vegan, will just eat what she can and not make a fuss. She is happy to discuss it all if asked, and I've had quite a few very interesting discussions about it with her. (By the way, she also has a dog and several rescue chickens). Her quiet and measured approach to it all has done far more to make me think about my food choices than stupid idiots protesting like that. Just saying.

Fluffyears · 14/01/2019 17:21

I expect anti-slavery protesters faced the same backlash at some point.

Oh yes I forgot we used to farm and eat slaves 🙄. The meat industry is completely different. I would probably have battered these muppets with a black pudding. Feel free to eat and lead your life however you like but if you want to go toe to toe about it we have an issue!

Poloshot · 14/01/2019 17:25

Absolute pricks, but what do you expect being vegans.

fizzpoptop · 14/01/2019 17:27

They're telling the truth though? I mean, if you eat meat, that's your choice. Not good for you, the planet, or the animals. I doubt any of them want to die. Maybe pictures of their faces and slaughter should be on food packaging...

XingMing · 14/01/2019 17:28

Most will live short, unhealthy lives so they won't make much noise for long. Homo sapiens evolved as an omnivore -- look at the dentition.

ISdads · 14/01/2019 17:28

Anything organised and I suspect undercover police (see 90s equivalent protests). Your average animal rights activist isn't organised or motivated enough

fizzpoptop · 14/01/2019 17:29

Humans have teeth more like herbivores than anything 🙄

FayFortune · 14/01/2019 17:32

Well we have teeth more like omnivores really.

Crimebustersofthesea · 14/01/2019 17:40

There was a group of vegans in my local city standing with tablets showing images of farmed animals etc. I would have been quite interested (not a vegan /vegetarian) but they were all dressed in black wearing those Anonymous type masks. It just made them seem really sinister and unapproachable. I do think this kind of thing turns people away from veganism.

If they'd been friendly and open I might have engaged with them.

Fluffyears · 14/01/2019 17:42

fizzpoptop putting gruesome pictures on fag packets didn’t work so it would be pointless. Also i’d besearching for the best name, ‘tonight is Daisy for dinner!’

I am more annoyed about meat waste after all if anpoor animal has to die at least if eaten it’s not in vain but if it has to be chucked due to it going off uneaten that’s a shame.

BejamNostalgia · 14/01/2019 17:43

I think comparing slaves to animalsis majorly fucking offensive. The whole point was that they were human.

Fluffyears · 14/01/2019 17:44

crimebuster I agree I would speak to anyone non confrontational. Just don’t get on my face because I don’t agree.

JudasPrudy · 14/01/2019 17:45

Twats, they've probably been vegan for all of 5 minutes 🙄

thecatneuterer · 14/01/2019 17:58

I think what they're doing is probably counterproductive and ill advised.

i still would like any vegan advise as to what would happen to all the pigs, sheep and cows if the world were to become vegan (farmers wouldnt look after them for free) Not this moronic argument again. I will tell you - they would no longer be bred and so would eventually just cease to exist - at least in the numbers they are currently farmed. Nothing would ever happen overnight. If demand for meat falls, so less animals will be bred. There won't suddenly be millions of animals that no one wants.

thecatneuterer · 14/01/2019 18:00

Most will live short, unhealthy lives so they won't make much noise for long utter nonsense.

Writingtrash · 14/01/2019 18:16

I have been vegetarian, I eat very little meat and I cook a lot of vegan food, but fuck me, if I wouldn't buy up every pork chop in that shop just to spite the over priveleged rich kids with blue hair

yorkshirepud44 · 14/01/2019 18:16

My former friend does those anonymous masked protests. She ditched me after apparently deciding that as I'm only a (lifelong) vegetarian I'm not good enough to associate with now she's been fully vegan a year.

And the answer for what to do with farm animals was to let them all live out their days in sanctuaries. Because that's practical. Hmm

It's a shame to see someone I've known for years become so utterly singleminded and judgemental.
