To think you don’t bloody sneeze in public?Probably get flamed for this but I absolutely detest people sneezing openly in public. It spreads germs and it’s NOT THAT HARD to internally sneeze as in like hold yourself back when you sneeze!

What about you hygiene pet peeves?

Another one is LICKING THE SUPERMARKET BAGS....why?! Why would I want you to slurp on your finger and then use your saliva to lubricate my bag and then continue to put my fresh produce into said bag. EW EW EW.

PS. Don’t say people can’t help sneezing, because unless you are challenged in someway , you ABSOLUTELY can.

I think the issue with sneezing into hand is that it is only OK if you are really near a sink!

In public it’s likely you will have children/bags/purse/tickets and cannot simply put your hand out of action whilst searching for a loo. It’s not practical and more sensible to either take tissues everywhere or stop being silly about it being disgusting to sneeze your own fluid into your own clothes. It isnt. If you don’t like your own body fluids then I suggest there is some other issue going on!

hellhasahancart · 11/01/2019 12:03

If I concentrate really hard, I can manage not to fart when I sneeze, though.

Your links don’t do me much good @ Lweji when I’m already immunocompromised. For what it’s worth, I am this way because I caught a tropical disease as a teenager. My mother caught it too and is also neutropenic and both parents and siblings are medics so well aware of the science behind immunity and infection prevention.

You aren’t doing anyone any favours by coughing and sneeezing all over them and you would be causing those of us who are immunocompromised a great deal of suffering.

HoustonBess · 11/01/2019 12:04

A teacher at my school cracked a few ribs trying to suppress a sneeze because she was holding hot coffee.

Everything is covered in bacteria, the world is not a sterile place. We're all still alive.

sherrysfortea · 11/01/2019 12:05

Sorry you're being ridiculous try being allergic to dust, pollen, grass and several types of trees and then only sneezing in the comfort of your own home.

pissedonatrain · 11/01/2019 12:05

allergy season there is no way I can hold a sneeze back as sometimes I can sneeze 6 or more times in a row. Actually bruised my ribs one time. Plus the danger of weeing yourself. :(

I do sneeze into my hand or arm so I don't just spray wherever. Always have some hand gel too.

My DSis does have an immune disorder and she wears a mask when she goes out.

My stbxh is one of those loud fake sneezers.

ravenmum · 11/01/2019 12:07

Is there a Youtube video for internal sneezing, can someone make one please?

OP, are you Graham Norton? Wasn't it enough to moan about this in your book?

LoniceraJaponica · 11/01/2019 12:07

PS. Don’t say people can’t help sneezing, because unless you are challenged in someway , you ABSOLUTELY can.

Most people ABSOLUTELY CAN'T

And yes I sneeze with my mouth closed (doesn't everyone??)

No. I can't, and most people don't.

CandleWithHair · 11/01/2019 12:08

@Amimissingsomethinghere Yes. Yes you are.

This thread is something else. Internal sneezing! OP did you ever think about why our bodies are biologically programmed to sneeze the way that they do? There is a reason you know.

All I will concede is that it is hugely rude and disgusting when people sneeze without covering their nose and mouth.

As for bag licking, there’s one cashier at my local Waitrose who wears a little rubber thimble thing. Maybe you should take some in to your local branch and hand them out. Hmm

Baxdream · 11/01/2019 12:09

Op I assume you're perfect then?

Sorry I have allergies and hay fever. I deeply apologise if my sneezes offend you. However I shall continue to sneeze with my hand over my mouth

Coralnails · 11/01/2019 12:11

Op I really would get some help for your issues.

Your life must be so much more stressful and difficult than it needs to be.

This hysteria over snot droplets and saliva is completely unnecessary.

thenightsky · 11/01/2019 12:11

God I love sneezing. Its like an orgasm in my head. Relieves tension and all that.

Coralnails · 11/01/2019 12:11

And if I was your husband and you moaned at me for sneezing then we wouldn't be married for very long.

twoheaped · 11/01/2019 12:12

Sneezing, like blinking, is an involuntary action. You just do it.

It is beyond bizarre to object to people sneezing in public. It's not as if it is something you do that regularly really.

Now, picking your nose and eating it is another thing altogether Envy

PickAChew · 11/01/2019 12:13

I don't know if any of the anti sneezers where perfume or use strongly scented fabric conditioners, btw, but quite often you're the reason why I will launch into a coughing and sneezing fit in a lift or on a bus.

SaturdayNext · 11/01/2019 12:13

OP, why are you ignoring the clear evidence that holding in a sneeze is really very dangerous?

I completely agree that people should cover their mouths and noses if they sneeze, but expecting them to hold it in and endanger themselves really is spectacularly unreasonable.

PickAChew · 11/01/2019 12:13

Wear perfume. Stupid phone is stupid.

SaturdayNext · 11/01/2019 12:15

I’m not angry I’m just sick of travelling on the tube etc with people sharing their germs!

OP, I've got news for you, people share their germs all day and every way and by all sorts of methods irrespective of whether they sneeze or not. If you can't cope with that fact you are going to have to become some sort of hermit.

badlydrawnperson · 11/01/2019 12:18

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU OP

SoyDora · 11/01/2019 12:19

I still argue you can sneeze internally without snot and germs spraying all over the joint!!! You close your mouth and just sneeze - try it!!!!!!!

I have. I couldn’t do it. What do you suggest I try now?

southnownorth · 11/01/2019 12:22

I can't believe I wasted five minutes of my life reading this.

OP you are ridiculous.

NutElla5x · 11/01/2019 12:22

You could always wear a face mask and surgical type gloves when out, and then go home and bath in dettol if you're so worried about germs op.

arranbubonicplague · 11/01/2019 12:24

Suppressing sneezes can be harmful:

Trapping a sneeze could also damage the ears or even rupture a brain aneurysm, they warn in journal BMJ Case Reports.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42687970

Public Health advice is to sneeze into your arm if you can't otherwise cover your mouth with a tissue:

neezing and coughing into your arm has become the standard suggestion of not just the C.D.C., but also organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Public Health Association. Even the New York City subway system occasionally runs an announcement asking riders to “cough or sneeze into the bend of your arm or use a tissue.”

www.nytimes.com/2018/02/27/health/how-to-sneeze.html

ShadyLady53 · 11/01/2019 12:25

I must add I’m not suggesting that people internalise a sneeze. Just use the Infection Control and Prevention advice that the NHS/Public Health England/NICE etc give - Catch it, Kill it, Bin it or if you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow.

If you don’t GAF and just cough or sneeze out into the air...sorry but you’re just an inconsiderate, selfish twat. (It’s also quite inconsiderate and selfish to suggest people internalise a sneeze...).

Justkeeprollingalong · 11/01/2019 12:25

I was at a wedding and during the vows I needed to sneeze. I'm a loud sneezer so I covered my nose and mouth with a wad of tissues and clamped down tight with both hands and contained the sneeze 'internally'...... I popped a blood vessel in my eye and really hurt my throat. Won't be doing that again! 🥵
