I would never name a child Mia = missing in action. Or Cameron, what if she marries a guy named Cameron and then she is called Cameron Cameron?
Or Claudia because it means “one who is lame“ in Latin.

Cassandra. Admittedly Only Fools and Horses didn't do me any favours, but before then I was considered quite posh (till you got to know me!) Grin

It does mean prophet of doom tho, so I always wondered what my parents were thinking when they chose it!

MrsKoala · 08/01/2019 19:12

How is Neveah pronounced? I've not heard it before.

winewont · 08/01/2019 19:13

Love your name koala. I was actually called Wendy for my first 48 hours till my mum changed her mind. Always baffled me, no correlation between Wendy and Ruth Grin

Clionba · 08/01/2019 19:13

Like Nivea cream

winewont · 08/01/2019 19:14

I think it’s nev-AY-uh. I know one Confused

Clionba · 08/01/2019 19:15

I like the name Ruth, it sounds peaceful and elegant! I also like Cassandra, but I do always think of that disaster film "The Cassandra Crossing"!

winewont · 08/01/2019 19:17

I tick one of those boxes Clio Wink

MrsKoala · 08/01/2019 19:46

I like Ruth and Kimberley (i'm not seeing the hatred for it at all). Kim is a nice shortening and I've known some lovely ones too.

I wanted Valentine for a boy and Gertrude for a girl (I think both Gerty and Rudy are lovely abbreviations) and DH vetoed both. The bastard. Grin Probably for the best!!

Zoflorabore · 08/01/2019 19:50

My mum was born to a German mum and English dad. It was definitely a boy. They had a name. My mum popped out in 1957 and was obviously not a boy. THANK GOD!

Wolfgang anyone? What a lovely erm unique name for a little baby....

Zoflorabore · 08/01/2019 19:51

My dd's middle name is Valentine ( she was born on Valentine's Day )

Kylieemilyj · 08/01/2019 20:02

My partner really liked Michael for our little boy but I hated it.. also many boys names that are old man names like Nigel or Kevin.. it was hard to name our boy😂

MirandaWest · 08/01/2019 20:03

Mathew. As I taught a child called Mathew who was not nice.

I might have been all right with calling one Matthew with two ts but didn’t want to risk it

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 20:05

Mia - teen slang in the eating disorder world for Bulimia.

Ana - sane for anorexia.

I don't know why I know this, or why it now sticks in my head!

winewont · 08/01/2019 20:06

My son’s dad is Dutch and I liked Valentijn and Constantijn. I think Con is a nice diminutive. He ended up with an old Dutch name, short and lovely

rosydreams · 08/01/2019 20:16

mary jane my family in California would all die of laughter

jacksonmaine · 08/01/2019 20:35

Yes to Grace. The two girls my DD knows/ did know, were manipulative bullies.

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 08/01/2019 20:40

Bridget and Gretchen.

Such ugly, hard sounding names.

SaucyJack · 08/01/2019 20:46

And with AmberHeartKitty’s post we’ve now got a full house on all of our names Grin

Even the cat has featured- but I doubt anyone would object to Tabitha for a tabby cat Wink

Pigflewpast · 08/01/2019 20:57

Ds has a (female) friend called Echo, it’s impossible to only say it once, even after many years, I can’t do it.

GrinGrin the names both hideous and comedy genius at the same time GrinGrin

Lacey just seems unfinished, like half a name. It just doesn’t feel right when I say it. Same with Ella, it’s just so wet and drippy.

I know a baby Buffy. Poor thing.
