I would never name a child Mia = missing in action. Or Cameron, what if she marries a guy named Cameron and then she is called Cameron Cameron?
Or Claudia because it means “one who is lame“ in Latin.

I was just talking about the name Astrid the other day. I happen to love it and fantasize about have another dd just so I can name her Astrid (mentally putting aside all the hard work and other important factors of bringing another human being into the world, of course...) then someone said it's an awful name because it has "Ass" in it 😒 it doesn't, obviously, but sounds like it so now its ruined. RUINED!!!

NoShelfElf · 08/01/2019 17:10

I don't like surnames A's first names, so Taylor, Parker, Carter etc.
I was also continually perplexed to see Gaylord in every baby name book I looked at. You just couldn't.

Clionba · 08/01/2019 17:11

Mackenzie. For a little girl?
Sounds like an old Scotsman.

Angelil · 08/01/2019 17:12

I avoided top 100.
I also wouldn't go with Amelia - it means missing limbs (it is the medical term for this birth defect).

Angelil · 08/01/2019 17:14

I also agree about surnames-as-first-names.
I don't like unisex names either. As a teacher I want to know when I look at the register at the start of the year if it's a boy or girl without having to ask :p

DramaticGoose · 08/01/2019 17:16

I wouldn't name a child Damien (means devil) even though I knew a lovely man called Damien (he passed away last year).

I wouldn't name a girl Laura because I was bullied by a girl called Laura throughout school. Sad but to me Laura = bitch (sorry nice Laura's, I've just had a horrible experience with one!)

Flyingfish2019 · 08/01/2019 17:16

Are we the only ones who chose names from the top 100 on purpose because we did not want a name to rare?

Angelil · 08/01/2019 17:16

@ShaggyRug - Maxime a very common name in French
Maxim also has literary pedigree (e.g. 19th-century Russian writer Maxim Gorky).

ElfridaEtAl · 08/01/2019 17:20

Michaela, due to a girl I was at primary school with who was an absolute bitch. Seen her a few times as an adult and she's still a sour faced cow.

Parttimewasteoftime · 08/01/2019 17:34

My bully was called Zoe so very unreasonably hate this name. Never met another so I not even being fair.

Hunter
Jaxon

Lala
Lola

Feel sorry for Honey Boo or Poppy May all the cute names going to be a killer when they they teens.

TootTootPeanutbutter · 08/01/2019 17:34

I know that Damien was the name of the Antichrist in The Omen but it means 'tamer' not devil.

beanaseireann · 08/01/2019 17:49

Gráinne. (Grawn yah) Irish girls name
It sounds like gránna (graw nah) Irish for ugly.

ForAMinuteThere · 08/01/2019 17:53

I chose a top 10 name and a top 100 name. Im glad the top 100 name is getting more popular as I didn't want him to be a rarity. We just loved it.

MsTSwift · 08/01/2019 18:03

Also have unfortunate Grace associations both dds have awful Graces intheir classes who are the opposite of graceful not yet met a nice one.

Suziepoozie · 08/01/2019 18:14

I’ve thought of another:

Comic book names. I know a Kalel and about four Loki’s. I get loving comics and stuff but these names are a bit out there (yes I know Loki is a mythological name)

Also names that rhyme/are the same as the surname. Andrew Andrews, Robert Robert.

I have a surname that goes badly with any P or A names so they’re both out for me. Sounds rude. Really really rude.

ohohoops · 08/01/2019 18:20

Iaintdonenothing - you're a genius. I have always irrationally disliked the name Ruth despite lovely friends and family with the name. Could never work out why. I think we might share an accent!

I am glad I didn't"t go ahead with my desire in my teens to change my rather boring name to the achingly cool Terri Tandi Toni or Steve. My name is quite boring though.

LightDrizzle · 08/01/2019 18:23

Any with yoonique spellings, sound like surnames, and any that are overtly super macho, girly or fey.
Willow
Hunter
Randy
Fawn
Bonnie
Pixie
Giselle
Also hyphenated names
Billy-Joe
Gracie-Mae
Then names I just dislike:
Joan
Brian
Malcolm
Derek
Tracy
Lysette
Lynne
Lesley
Brenda
Beryl

I’m not keen on my own name but I don’t dwell on it.

Strongmummy · 08/01/2019 18:25

@dramaticgoose - it doesn’t mean devil! It means to tame or conquer 🤣🤣🤣. You’re thinking of the omen

Clionba · 08/01/2019 18:27

Gail
Tracey
Sharon
Julie
Linda
.... probably not even in the top 1,000 now!

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 08/01/2019 18:33

Anything with a hyphen
Any of the Jaxon, Jordan, Hayden, Jayden, Cayden chavtastic names
Oscar, Kai, Mason etc too for the same reason.
E names for girls. I'm fed up of having so many in one class. Evie, Edie, Eve, Eva, Ellie, Eleanor, Elsie, Elise, Ella, Elle and their similar counterparts, Olivia, Ava, Lana, Lola, Lula, Leela, fuckkk offfff

ShaggyRug · 08/01/2019 18:34

@Angelil I agree. Definitely an old name. But more recently a Lads Mag and once the boys in his year figure that out let the teasing begin.

MrsKoala · 08/01/2019 18:41

I would never call my kids any of the "white-trash" names, as listed by Mark Wahlberg's character lists in the film Ted

I was really shocked that my name was on that list. I've only ever had 'posh' comments about it. Perhaps it is different in the US. Blush

There were 2 names that DH really wanted and I vetoed them because I just couldn't imagine calling a baby Victor or Ender Confused . We purposely chose outside the top 100 but did like one name in the 80s which we considered and i'm glad we didn't as there is now one in DS2s class and my cousin also used it.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/01/2019 18:56

MrsKoala

Is your name Savannah or Autumn? I’d think those are the only two posho names on that list

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/01/2019 19:02

Kellan. Judith. Toyah.

winewont · 08/01/2019 19:05

I’m a Ruth and find that people with certain UK accents say the th as an f. Europeans call me Root. My friends and family shorten my name or lengthen it in lots of ways that make me smile
