I would never name a child Mia = missing in action. Or Cameron, what if she marries a guy named Cameron and then she is called Cameron Cameron?
Or Claudia because it means “one who is lame“ in Latin.

Anything 'unique' like odd spellings for the sake of it. DD has had 2 new kids in her class and I honestly thought she'd misheard names or was just making random sounds... nope, it's the kids names.
Anything mai/may/mae or Rae. Also:
Poppy
Daisy
Amelia
Emily
Luke
Keith
Skye
Ovtavia
Aurora
Carter (makes me shudder)
Jaxon
Isobel
Pheobe

On the other hand I love loads of awesome sci-fi inspired names that my DH vetoed immediately- I loved Inara for a girl or Jayne for a boy but he said he wouldn't give his child the name of a space prostitute... in hindsight I'm pleased he talked me out of it!

LoisWilkerson1 · 07/01/2019 22:39

Any name with a made up spelling. Like Jorga. I also can't stand pretentious sounding names. They just don't roll off the tongue and sound so attention seeking. Ptolemy, Orlando, Josiah etc

Gth1234 · 07/01/2019 22:42

Cain.

Why would anyone call a child after the first murderer.

rackhampearl · 07/01/2019 22:44

Delilah, Lily, Alyssa, Olivia, Catherine, Finlay, Riley/Reilly, Lacie... there's loads of names that just annoy me. I don't know why. Don't think my kids names are too popular with people but DH and I love them.

MrsDrudge · 07/01/2019 22:45

Timothy and Martin - associated with unpleasantly drippy people I knew.
Veronica. Vera. Barbara. Jane . Lynne. Dawn. Immediately bring to mind the nasty girls at school.
Hope I haven’t offended anyone who has these names, it’s all very subjective and personal taste.

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 07/01/2019 22:45

Dotty is awful. I have met a baby Dotty, poor child lumbered with that.

arethereanyleftatall · 07/01/2019 22:46

Crikey. Are there any names left that haven't been mentioned here at least once?!?

MrsDrudge · 07/01/2019 22:48

I also knew a lad called Hrothgar. Apparently old English, but I think his parents tried to register him as Roger but had a few too many drinks. (Hate Roger too)

Clionba · 07/01/2019 22:50

You were going to call your son Jayne? Hmm

Clionba · 07/01/2019 22:51

I was at university with a woman called Psyche. What a curse that was.

LoisWilkerson1 · 07/01/2019 22:55

I think any name that is bigger than the person iyswim?Confused Overly clunky or sounds like a statement. A bit like when you say an outfit wears you, you aren't wearing it.. Atlanta and Dexter are ones I've heard recently.

Fishbaby · 07/01/2019 22:55

Abcde - pronounced ab-cidy. Or in order words, absurdity.

I don't mind most names (many sound not be my choice) but I hate stupid ones like North. South, Apple, Ocean, Honeybee, Sunshine , Heaven and other silly names that will be hated by the time they are older.

greathat · 07/01/2019 22:58

Oh tonnes but then I've been teaching for about 15 years. Nothing with a hyphen in it and no boys names ending in -den...

JennaJohnson · 07/01/2019 23:00

Emma, Alana, Hannah - my ex boyfriend cheated on me with girls with these names.

@codenameduchess agree with most of yours but love the name 'Phoebe' as I know a lovely girl with this name.

Anything weird like Apple.

Yidette86 · 07/01/2019 23:08

So many but I'm really fussy...

Lana - Anal backwards Blush
Nevaeh - Heaven backwards Hmm
Lauren - boring and most I've met have been right little nosey shit stirrers
Christina, Tiffany, Chantelle - Proper bitchy names
Crystal, Destiny, Mercedes etc - Stripper names
Harper, Piper, Lilly, Esmae etc Anything over used and way too common
Middle names such as May or Rose

Callum, Lewis, Tom - knobheads
Kayden, Jayden, Jaxson etc - done to death and bit chavtastic
Blake, Chad, Hunter - pretentious and chavvy

I can't stand a lot more but those are off the top of my head.

My DD's name hasn't come up yet so wahoo lol but it's all to do with personal taste anyway.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 07/01/2019 23:12

I reckon Judas is probably a non-starter
Shock How very dare you!
So far this thread has denigrated the names of my husband (first and middle name), all four of our DDs, both my brothers and both SILs, DF and DSM and most of my nieces and nephews. Only me and my dsis have got off, but as we’re both ‘lucky’ enough to have been bestowed with a traditional family Eastern European name each, maybe we’ll be ok Grin

hadenough · 07/01/2019 23:15

Doris, Moris, Boris - I just think they sound so ugly.

Belinda - no rational reason.

Chardonnay - I mean come on

Mercedes - she's a child not a car.

JennaJohnson · 07/01/2019 23:17

It's ok @Judashascomeintosomemoney - my name is on here probably 6/7 times Grin

Bishalisha · 07/01/2019 23:18

I’m doing well Grin

DS1: Hinted at 5 times ( X and surname)
DD1: mentioned 4 times

@GwenCooper81 my Kiki is lovely Grin

scrivette · 07/01/2019 23:20

*@Jezzifishie

My daughter is called one of those names you love but wouldn’t dare ;)**

@newnametoconfesshername

DD is one of those names too!

ginpink · 07/01/2019 23:21

Honey boo

MsLucyLastic · 07/01/2019 23:22

My DD's name is mentionned on here as now being a no-go: Emilia. But she is 8 so hopefully was ahead of the curve.

The worst I have heard is Porscha......spelt exactly like that. Portia is a lovely name, why dick about with the spelling?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/01/2019 23:22

Nina - nee nar, nee nar. Police siren.

Spare a thought for this newsreader/journalist, then - I don't know where she grew up, but her parents obviously felt the need for ambulance backup as well Grin

PissOffPeppa · 07/01/2019 23:28

Like a PP said, I’ve also never met a nice Kimberley. I’ve known a few and they’ve all been awful.

Aurora- It just sounds awful and I have no idea how it’s so popular.

I think Myra is quite a pretty name but that’s a no-go for obvious reasons.

Love Ophelia but it’s really really awful with our surname Blush

SaucyJack · 07/01/2019 23:30

I feel someone should stick up for the Kimberleys.

An old school friend of mine is called Kim, and she is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever know.
