To be f***** off by DP food waste?!?!?

MrDarcyWillBeMine · 01/01/2019 11:33

So I’ll start by saying this- DP is generally wonderful! Could not knock him for anything else.

However, last night he treated himself to a pizza meal (expensive branded one)

Comes with two large pizzas and sides! (Not a rare occurance - about 1-2 a month but he’s otherwise very healthy)

I had 1 piece as not a huge fan!
General agreement is that he stash uneaten leftovers in the fridge to snack on for a few days! He’s really bad for not doing this!

I usually do it but as he’s been on nights I went to bed long before him and said ‘make sure you fridge the leftovers’

Came down this morning to an entire large pizza and 1/4 of another large pizza
A- uncovered
B- on the coffee table
😡

I told him last night that our resolution this year would be to cut down on waste! I HATE IT! I grew up (happy) but poor, in a house that didn’t waste food!

Yes I occasionally throw away old bits of half used food/ scraps from plates and any peels/left over fruit/veg gets thrown on the garden - but DP grew up rather wealthy and (in my opinion) a bit wasteful!

Whole pizzas!!! (3 tubs of humous got thrown this morning too as way over date) when we met he would actively ignore fridge food that needed eating in favour of take aways and then throw the fridge food out as was too out of date (he will eat things a few days over but not more than a week) he has got ALOT better since then!

Just before Christmas I had to throw a full £7 MnS lasagne as he kept saying he was going to have it the next day (so I didn’t eat it) then finally said ‘no it’s too far gone now bin it’

😡😡😡

It’s SUCH A WASTE!!! He doesn’t seem to feel it like I do!

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

You can eat Pizza that had been left out overnight

stolemyusername · 01/01/2019 11:39

I'd still eat the pizza

Apple103 · 01/01/2019 11:41

Yanbu he does seem very wasteful. I also hate throwing good food away. But I wouldnt eat pizza over a few days, just the next day.

BanginChoons · 01/01/2019 11:41

Get some chickens.

XmasHolly · 01/01/2019 11:43

How warm is your house overnight? Confused The pizza would most probably have been fine.

MrDarcyWillBeMine · 01/01/2019 11:43

He won’t eat unrefrigerated pizza today - it would be fine if it were plain toppinigs or pepperoni but it’s fancy meat feast ones so really don’t think it’s ok having been out since 8pm last night

Put the pizza in the fridge now, don't waste it.
Yanbu I have a ds like it.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 01/01/2019 11:45

Firstly - the pizza is still good.
Secondly - food waste is awful I agree, if he's struggling to overhaul his habits all at once he could start with tackling certain things like meal planning when what you have already and not buying food you have in the fridge and work up from there?

Puggles123 · 01/01/2019 11:46

The pizza will be fine, the meats are so salty etc that they won’t spoil like fresh meat. I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone to put it in the fridge overnight before eating the next day tbh!

RhiWrites · 01/01/2019 11:49

If he’s getting a Dominos Even Bigger Night in Deal that’s nearly 30 quid and completely unnecessary. He should get one medium or large pizza and sides and then if he wants another pizza get another pizza tomorrow. No man should eat two large pizzas a night - and he didn’t.

It makes more economic and delicious sense to get pizza two days in a row than have coffee table pizza the second day.

He’s not just wasteful, he’s not that bright.

KittyClaus · 01/01/2019 11:49

I’d be reheating the pizza for lunch.

MrDarcyWillBeMine · 01/01/2019 11:50

So not to drip feed (another reason I’m slightly annoyed) we have a 10 month old kitten - who has been running around downstairs all night and whilst not ‘obviously’ picked over - May have helped himself to some of the chicken from the meat feast (it’s his favourite)

It pains me- but I really don’t think anyone should eat the pizza today! It also smells gross- I took a wiff - although to me it always smells gross the next morning 🙈

I'd eat the pizza. I never put it in the fridge. It ruins it.

MrDarcyWillBeMine · 01/01/2019 11:52

If it had been properly covered but not fridges I may say yes eat it - but not covered or refrigerated just screams ‘not safe’ to me!

redexpat · 01/01/2019 11:55

Yanbu and after your kitten update I wouldnt want to eat it either.

Squidgee · 01/01/2019 11:56

I wouldn't eat it either.

I think you need to stop nagging him and just put the things away/freeze them yourself.

I would have taken the second pizza and covered it and put it in the microwave or something overnight.. if he'd have wanted it, he could always have gone and got it back out.

Fantababy · 01/01/2019 11:56

I often eat food that's not been refrigerated first, but then I trust my body to recognise when food is off (smell, etc).

But why the hell did he buy two large pizzas and sides just for himself?! That was surely always going to result in wasted food.

category12 · 01/01/2019 12:06

Perhaps have a rule that he has to put an equal amount of money in a jar for every time he wastes food like this by laziness, just to have it as visual reminder.

But seriously if that's the worst he does, you need to lighten up a bit.Unless you're in financial straits.

Also too many exclamation marks! For no reason!

Trethew · 01/01/2019 12:07

Stick a list on the fridge with the cost of all the food that’s been chucked away so far. Do weekly totals. Can be quite an eye-opener

OliviaStabler · 01/01/2019 12:09

I wouldn't eat it especially with the chance the kitten had been at it. Yuk!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 01/01/2019 12:10

Even kittened, I'd still eat it.

NotANotMan · 01/01/2019 12:11

I really hate food waste. YANBU

Missingstreetlife · 01/01/2019 12:12

Why would you have 3 tubs of humus?
Why do men (generalisation I know) refuse to meal plan, use up leftovers and think it's ok to start something new when you have stuff that needs using up. Drives me mad too.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 01/01/2019 12:13

I once dumped a guy who hrew away half a chicken rather than put it in the fridge.

QueenOfTheCroneAge · 01/01/2019 12:15
