To be annoyed at people in large 4X4 pickups to complain that parking spaces too small

Hi, I had parked my car neatly within the lines marked out for the parking bay and was just returning back to it when a woman in a MASSIVE pick-up truck parks right next to me and so i have to wait as she gets out of her car.
She almost bashes my side of the car and then she gives me a look an says "Its not my fault these spaces are not big enough"
I had to really bite my tongue as she had two school age children with her as i would have loved to have said "well, most people drive normal cars and we don't all have a fat arse like you"
Because, no kidding, she was a fat arsed lady, almost totally round, no wonder she can't fit in spaces.
God help her if someone blocks her in, should be a funny sight trying to crawl in the boot to move the car.
Sorry about the rant, but she really got on my goat.

not really trying to double my point , don't know why that happened

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:24

i think that people who drive 4x4s in the town are arseholes. nothing unclear about that.

magicfarawaytree · 26/06/2007 22:25

i didnt add my message to say you were an arsehole btw. just addressing the size issue. Personally i think you drive a 4x4 because you wanted that particular vehicle.

kittywits · 26/06/2007 22:26

'tis true, there's no need

clutteredup · 26/06/2007 22:26

Does it help that my 4x4 is classed as a compact and is smaller than the galaxy and other non 4x4's which incidentally consume more fuel than mine?

j20baby · 26/06/2007 22:26

muppetgirl yellow van men doesn't have quite the same ring to it

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:27

hang on...! 'i couldnt' get my children into a narrower car'? how is that true? is there not one car on the market that would accomodate your children? did you try them all? or did you just want to buy a 4x4 (as is your right, unfortunately) and are now seeking to justify it? doo what you like, of course, but i reserve the right to feel as i do about 4x4 drivers who live in town.

muppetgirl · 26/06/2007 22:28

...hmmm
purple van man?

Green man van?

:O

kittywits · 26/06/2007 22:28

our other car is a Zafira, I have 6 children in it, all with car seats, so there!!

clutteredup · 26/06/2007 22:29

OK I don't live in the town and also we had to but a Nissan because we had a special agreement which meant we could afford on and the x trail was the only one to take 3 seats in the back - stage 1 , 2 and 3. FYI I didn't want a bigger car and was quite happy with my Skoda but we couldn't fit the children safely in the back - just trying to sday that you can't always generalise

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:30

magicfarawaytree, that's what i think. you wanted a 4x4 cos you like them, that's fine, rock on. but i don't like them, i think when you buy one you instantly assume membership of a particularly selfish, grandstanding, wankerish club and if that's what you want to put out there then fine, that's your lookout.

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 22:31

clutteredup what stages? since you obviously don't want a 4x4 tell us and maybe we can help you then you can get rid of the awful thing

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 22:31

sorry must type faster

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:31

oh fgs 'you can't always generalise'... i can do what i like, tbh.

bobsmum · 26/06/2007 22:32

We had a Berlingo and could get 3 full size car seats in the back.

But now we have a shed of a Range Rover which I have lamented over on many threads and I loathe.

It's enormous. Hideous to park and a nightmare to judge the width of when I drive into town.

I hate driving it so much that I limit my journeys to as close to home as possible.

When I drive into town I do so in disguise because I can feel the hate in peoples' eyes. It burns. It burns I tell you. Make it stooooooop!

paulaplumpbottom · 26/06/2007 22:32

Clutterdup they are all just jealous, don't listen

TnOgu · 26/06/2007 22:32
1dilemma · 26/06/2007 22:32

so there arelots of other cars you could have had you just wanted that one (a 4x4)

muppetgirl · 26/06/2007 22:33

...aitch
Even i find that a little harsh.
I am assuming you are the founding member of the altruistic club?

pyjamaqueen · 26/06/2007 22:33

"Does it help that my 4x4 is classed as a compact and is smaller than the galaxy and other non 4x4's which incidentally consume more fuel than mine?"

Just thought I'd echo that Clutteredup, as no one seems to have read it. This is blanket '4x4 bashing' for no logical reason. As Jeremy Clarkson said recently, since when did we live in a country where you are hated because of the number of wheels your engine is driving? It's nonsense.

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 22:33

ppb wouldn't drive it if you gave me one
bobsmum just get rid

bobsmum · 26/06/2007 22:33

But we do live in the sticks and we do run it on 1/3 vegetable oil. When we can afford the full conversion we'll start running it on pure bio fuel.

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 22:34

most of us havn't given an opinion of other 'fuel consumptive' cars, and I don't hate clutteredup

bobsmum · 26/06/2007 22:35

WE bought it because we've been flooded and snowed in the house so often that it became a necessity. It was only 5 days stranded last time, but it meant we had no coal delivered and that was tough. nO bog roll either

pyjamaqueen · 26/06/2007 22:35

Bobsmum, why would anyone buy a car they don't like?
