To be annoyed at people in large 4X4 pickups to complain that parking spaces too small

Ripeberry · 26/06/2007 17:28

Hi, I had parked my car neatly within the lines marked out for the parking bay and was just returning back to it when a woman in a MASSIVE pick-up truck parks right next to me and so i have to wait as she gets out of her car.
She almost bashes my side of the car and then she gives me a look an says "Its not my fault these spaces are not big enough"
I had to really bite my tongue as she had two school age children with her as i would have loved to have said "well, most people drive normal cars and we don't all have a fat arse like you"
Because, no kidding, she was a fat arsed lady, almost totally round, no wonder she can't fit in spaces.
God help her if someone blocks her in, should be a funny sight trying to crawl in the boot to move the car.
Sorry about the rant, but she really got on my goat.

I used to wave to other drivers of triumph heralds when i had one...
...and i also used to tip my lid at other motorbikers when i rode one.
...I used to give way to other narrowboaters when i owned narrowboat.
I have owned many a crap car -mainly small- but love my 4x4 which i do move if i get in the way. Sod your car, i don't want mine hit ta.

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 21:25

When I passed my test and went out and needed to park had to drive round until I found space on end of row

IcingOnTheCake · 26/06/2007 21:38

I don't think it's right either that last week, everyone was in uproar because of the whole racist/chinky think, yet it seems to be quite acceptable for someone to say 'Because, no kidding, she was a fat arsed lady, almost totally round, no wonder she can't fit in spaces.
God help her if someone blocks her in, should be a funny sight trying to crawl in the boot to move the car.' That is a very crual thing to say.

Aitch · 26/06/2007 21:39

i think, icing, that the vast majority of people think that the fat-arsed thing was unaccetably nasty.

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 21:44

I think it would have been unacceptable nasty to say it to her face or to treat her in a certain way because you felt she was fat, but I don't think Ripeberry is nasty beacuse she tried to post a humourous message on mumsnet and it backfired.

Aitch · 26/06/2007 21:52

whatever, it was just not that relevant. and i love a 4x4 thread as much as the next girl...

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 21:55

maybe I just don't want everyone thinking I'm nasty beacuse I too have seen people and thought 'fat' in fact you caould be v. thin and I would still prob. think 'fat' if you were in my parking space

IcingOnTheCake · 26/06/2007 21:58

It doesn't matter if your fat or thin, you should still be able to park properly no matter what car you have.

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:01

with the big cars, though, they might be parked properly, ie within the lines but they can't get their doors open without intruding on others' spaces. och i can't be bothered tbh. people who have these cars in the town are arseholes, plain and simple.

clutteredup · 26/06/2007 22:06

What do other people who have 3 children do then? I have a 4x4 ,but only beacuse it was the smallest - yes I do mean that- car that we could afford that would take 3 car seats in the back . It is still a bit of a squash but we can squeeze them in, any narrower and we wouldn't have them strapped in at all , forget safely. Just after we bought it and I was 8 mo PG with DD2 I went back to the car after shopping and couldn't get in because although there was a little bit of room I couldn't squeeze in. In the end I had to wait for someone to move - I didn't blame them, just the supermarket and all the 'parents' who didn't appear to have small children in the mother and child parking spaces.I am really careful to make sure my DC don't bash other cars when we get out but I have a problem often with the width of some spaces as I have to open the door wide enough to get DD2's baby car seat out every time. I do park as considerately as I can and also choose my parking places carefully. Incidentally I am working on the size of my backside - but it's difficult !!!

clutteredup · 26/06/2007 22:07

Aitch, am I an arsehole because of my car or my choice to have 3 children and to comply with government safety guidelines for my children - please claify, just so as I know.

clutteredup · 26/06/2007 22:13

Aitch, come on now? I'd really like to know - or was it a bit of a generalisation possibly? Sometimes there are good reasons why people do things not just because they are arseholes.

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:15

yes you are. i don't believe that a 4x4 is the only car you could have got. i have a honda jazz and so does a friend of mine with three children, so she must manage to accomodate them all somehow.

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:16

fucksakes, give me a minute to answer why don't you?

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 22:17

ford and all dcs safely strapped in.

Freckle · 26/06/2007 22:17

I have had to climb into my car via the boot before because of the crap parking of small cars adjacent to mine. My car's only a Galaxy rather than a 4x4, but the effect's the same if other people can't park properly.

1dilemma · 26/06/2007 22:17

Don't believe 4x4 is only car taking 3 car seats, what stages?

kittywits · 26/06/2007 22:21

Well I've got a 9 seater mini bus and I haven't got a fat arse.

Aitch · 26/06/2007 22:22

lol at the small car paranoia. a small car parked a bit badly might cause you some difficulties, a big wanky 4x4 hardly has to be parked badly at all to box people in because the parking spaces in this country don't fit them. BECAUSE the cars are supposed to be driven by wankers in (formerly) cheap gas country america and it is to our national shame that they have been so embraced in the UK.

muppetgirl · 26/06/2007 22:22

my dad drives a van and he's not got a fat arse....
-It's yellow not white btw

magicfarawaytree · 26/06/2007 22:22

my mondeo will fit at a squeeze 3 cars seats. my friends renault scenic does too.

clutteredup · 26/06/2007 22:23

Thanks for the clarification, not that I'd be one to generalise myself but I'd say that perhaps not all 4x4s are as wide as other ones and some non 4x4s could be wider - just a thoguht since this issue is about thw width of cars. I couldn't get my children in a narrower car. I saw a Jaguar the other day which was a lot wider than mine and a Rover - would you still class me as an arsehole if I could afford a larger car like that but it wasn't a 4x4 or are you just generalising against everyone you don't know?
