To be annoyed at people in large 4X4 pickups to complain that parking spaces too small

Hi, I had parked my car neatly within the lines marked out for the parking bay and was just returning back to it when a woman in a MASSIVE pick-up truck parks right next to me and so i have to wait as she gets out of her car.
She almost bashes my side of the car and then she gives me a look an says "Its not my fault these spaces are not big enough"
I had to really bite my tongue as she had two school age children with her as i would have loved to have said "well, most people drive normal cars and we don't all have a fat arse like you"
Because, no kidding, she was a fat arsed lady, almost totally round, no wonder she can't fit in spaces.
God help her if someone blocks her in, should be a funny sight trying to crawl in the boot to move the car.
Sorry about the rant, but she really got on my goat.

of course. i hate them for loads of reasons, as i've mentioned. what are you talking about now? [baffled]

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:53

i do, and they would blow you away!

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 13:53

Look its normal for people to hate things that are considered status sysmbols. Its not the item they hate but what they represent. People don't like rich people, notice Aitch's critisism of her neighbor for being rich. Its resentment.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:54

NO outside space at all, mrsw, check. although i have sometimes snuck into the bowling green and hung up my clothes for a few hours while dd plays.

WaynettaSlob · 27/06/2007 13:54

Would be interested to know where all the 'fat' 4x4 drivers live.....down in the SE it's all trim yummy mummies who drive them (and me - trim, maybe, yummy, that would be pushing it!)

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:55

LOL it Really, Really, Really isn't paulaplumpbottom. lolololol.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:56

to afford a car costing £30k and not use it, mind you, you'd have to be rich wouldn't you? or where to you all live? apart from the woman who lives where ferraris are ten-a-penny, that is...

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:56

i did find that very offensive for somone to imply that all 4x4 drivers are fat. was gonna say something earlier but thought whats the point, it one rule for one and all that.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:57

see if i had more money i'd get a toyota prius... that's a status symbol to me.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:58

oh yes, that's been covered, icing. not acceptable to call 4x4 users fat. not even remotely accurate either.

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:58

4x4s don't have to be expensive, if your gonna use it properly you wouldn't want to pay 30k, more like 5k

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:58

icing, have you actually read this thread? most of the first 50 posts were pulling the op up for the fat thing...

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:59

JESUS! the one on my street... 30k. and he doesn't use it. becaause if he moves it he'll never get it parked again cos double spaces don't come up very often. so He Is A WAnker, n'est-ce pas?

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 14:00

yeah i have read it but someone said it again after all the who ha, i will find it...

chocolatedot · 27/06/2007 14:00

Great message DrNorthener. I especially agree with your last point- I find it incredible that anyone in a large city still drives a 4x4. Don't they realise how daft everyone thinks they are???

Aitch · 27/06/2007 14:00

the many other 4x4s on my street, the more normal sized ones, just box the little cars in using their special beep-beep systems.

MarshaBrady · 27/06/2007 14:02

LOL at 4x4 being status symbols. agree with Aitch on that one. looks like you've been dupped if you thought it was!

WaynettaSlob · 27/06/2007 14:02

To be fair Aitch - it was me who brought it up - have only scaneed through the thread and saw lots of 'fat'....

WaynettaSlob · 27/06/2007 14:04

(Marsha - love your name, though keep humming the bloody theme tune every time I see you! Are you new or a namechanger?)

Manictigger · 27/06/2007 14:07

Actually Paula I feel sorry for people who buy objects as status symbols - the very words mean that you obviously feel the need to try to impress complete strangers and how sad and insecure is that? (But then I used to love driving round an old Skoda and would genuinely join in with the jokes because I knew that at least a) no-one would nick it b) the metal was so thick it would NEVER rust through)

MrsWho · 27/06/2007 14:12

Though on tumble dryers my washing just ends up in the house on wet days

MarshaBrady · 27/06/2007 14:12

Yes me too manictigger, no jealousy there but somehow i dont think people who buy into that stuff will ever believe us.

Waynetta i used to be bettybobo (and a few others) but decided with Frannyandzooey it was absolutely pants so went for MarshaBrady. I loved that show lol. You're the first person to say you like it so thanks! you've made ma day!

dal21 · 27/06/2007 14:13

I didnt say that driving a 4 by 4 needs money???? I asked whether the perception of it being driven as a status symbol (therefore infering that people who would drive a 4 by 4 as a status symbol wouldnt be paying £5k for one, but substantially more) was causing the extreme opinions? The answer seems to be an overwhleming no.

Either way - i ask again, why single out 4 by 4 drivers over and above drivers of other cars?? I drive through central london most days and the cars that i refer to as 'tanks' and/ or high performance (that arent 4 by 4's) are extremely common.

I am not trying to be inflammatory or suggest that people who dont drive 4 by 4's dont have money. I have more intelligence than that!

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 14:13

I don't think everyone who buys them see them as a status symbol. Some do for sure. I certainly don't think anyone does it to impress strangers, such people rarely care what strangers think but do care what the people they know think

southeastastra · 27/06/2007 14:16

i suppose it all comes down to how many 4x4 drivers you encounter. and how good they are at driving

as i said earlier, they seem to make their own rules on the road. because the car is so big they feel they can edge out, never indicate, push in etc.
