To be annoyed at people in large 4X4 pickups to complain that parking spaces too small

Hi, I had parked my car neatly within the lines marked out for the parking bay and was just returning back to it when a woman in a MASSIVE pick-up truck parks right next to me and so i have to wait as she gets out of her car.
She almost bashes my side of the car and then she gives me a look an says "Its not my fault these spaces are not big enough"
I had to really bite my tongue as she had two school age children with her as i would have loved to have said "well, most people drive normal cars and we don't all have a fat arse like you"
Because, no kidding, she was a fat arsed lady, almost totally round, no wonder she can't fit in spaces.
God help her if someone blocks her in, should be a funny sight trying to crawl in the boot to move the car.
Sorry about the rant, but she really got on my goat.

it's dark green with an 'Ecosse' sticker in the back .

vroom, vroom!

Aitch · 27/06/2007 12:16

are they in that lurid metallic blue? (only when it's freezing...)

Boco · 27/06/2007 12:16

But i rarely leave the village - and get easily dazzled by streetlamps.

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 12:17

I live in the new forest, we don't have street lamps

Boco · 27/06/2007 12:19

We dont' either - that's why i get dazzled by them - not used to urban spaces or artificial light. Those ones on sticks that turn red and green and orange! Wow!

kittywits · 27/06/2007 12:20

In my experience 4x4's they are horribly dangerous because they are, on the whole, driven by women who cannot drive. They are, on the whole, the sort of women who give women drivers a bad name.
I have never seen a woman drive one of these cars who was not, incompetent as a driver and complketely oblivious to anything going on outside the vehicle. God help anyone who crossed the road any where near her car.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 12:21

look, it's got a picture of Peggy Archer on the front dressed up as the queen.

bobsmum · 27/06/2007 12:28

I like the end of Disney's 'Cars" where Sarge the army jeep takes all the shiny 4x4s and hummers on a boot camp and you hear them all whimpering - "but I've never been off-road before!"

Boco · 27/06/2007 12:28

Much appreciated Aitch - and as a gesture of goodwill, let me know if you're ever venturing into the sticks and i'll call the badgers off.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 12:33

ROFL please, they haunt my dreams those badgers...

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 12:42

So it's not the 4x4 cars you hate, it's the 4x4 cars in towns/cities you hate?

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 12:45

I don't undeerstand. If they are aprked inside the lines whats the problem?

Aitch · 27/06/2007 12:48

but of course, icing, that's what i've been saying all along. i said some time ago that if i was living in the country i'd hanker after an elderly mud-splattered landy.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 12:49

that's landy, btw, not lady, just in case you're skimming.

Boco · 27/06/2007 12:52

People who live down muddy tracks, tree surgeons, vets, farmers, etc etc, yes yes fine. People who live in a big city - no no no.

When i lived in London and was pg i joined NCT - 5 other women in my antinatal group. As soon as they gave birth they went and bought giant 4x4s for driving around Greenwich. (3 of them!) They had tiny weeny babies - so they had to get a big big fuel guzzling car - like a pea in a bucket - why? I will never get it.

Boco · 27/06/2007 12:54

Aitch i know loads of mud splattered old ladies, i'll get the badgers to round a couple up and send them to you. No need to thank me.

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:01

So it's not the fuel guzzling you hate or the 'bad for planet' reason, it's that they are in the city/town. To be honest i have never found the size of car to be a problem when on the road. I think it's more about the amount of cars that's the problem, not the size. When you have a small road with cars parks both sides you still have to go single file, whether you have a small car or a large car. Congestion bothers me more and because there are too many cars on the road nowadays so i don't think we should blame big cars for the lack of space, we should blame the amount of cars for lack of space.

Boco · 27/06/2007 13:06

No it is the fuel guzzling and the bad for the planet and the risk to pedestrians and other people on the road. The city thing is just that there's no excuse for them in towns - there are a few legitimate reasons for having ones - ok, but there are so many of them on the roads now with no purpose other than status symbol, and that annoys me. Status symbol is not a good reason to compromise the environment or safety.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:10

agreed, boco. we all have a footprint, there's just no need to have such a big one in the city. so if you do you are entering prime wanker territory afaic.

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:11

But Aitch just said if she lived in the country she would have one, so that says to me that she doesn't actually hate them, she just hates them being in the town/citys. And like i said, they towns and citys are over crowded because of the amount of cars in them, not because the size of the cars.

southeastastra · 27/06/2007 13:11

why do 4x4 drivers (when on the right at roundabout) have to edge ahead of you completely blocking out the view.

and they get too close so their headlights completely blind the driver in front.

and when coming out of a junction just edge out and push their way into the traffic queue.

the majority of the 4x4 drivers i've seen do this are women

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:13

I would have thought airoplanes make more of a carbon footprint so surely those who take holidays abroad are doing more damage.

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:14

Personally i find BMW drivers and taxis push in more than anyone.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:16

don't be silly, icing. two cars, one big, one small. the big one effectively the size of two small. never mind the quantity, feel the girth.

... of course we shoudl reduce the amount of cars but it's a different battle. only you can honeslty say whether you need your 4x4 or not. i think you probably don't, even if you do live in the country, but i can see you making a better case for it than my neighbour the Wanker. therefore you get a passport. my neighbour the Wanker should be exiled forthwith.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:17

oh please stop with the 'everyone is shitty shite so therefore we're all goiing to hell in a handbasket so i can have my 4x4', will you?
