To be annoyed at people in large 4X4 pickups to complain that parking spaces too small

Hi, I had parked my car neatly within the lines marked out for the parking bay and was just returning back to it when a woman in a MASSIVE pick-up truck parks right next to me and so i have to wait as she gets out of her car.
She almost bashes my side of the car and then she gives me a look an says "Its not my fault these spaces are not big enough"
I had to really bite my tongue as she had two school age children with her as i would have loved to have said "well, most people drive normal cars and we don't all have a fat arse like you"
Because, no kidding, she was a fat arsed lady, almost totally round, no wonder she can't fit in spaces.
God help her if someone blocks her in, should be a funny sight trying to crawl in the boot to move the car.
Sorry about the rant, but she really got on my goat.

Aitch - you freely use quite rude terms, which is your right to do. And what i find interesting is wondering what it is about this subject that draws such extreme opinions from yourself?

Does it get your goat that people can afford the various 'status symbols' as you term them? Looking at your story about your neighbour, what stood out wasnt that he had 2 cars etc....but the 'rich architect' along with the charming use once again of the 'w*nker' term. Is it just well off people that rub you up the wrong way?

and lol i haven't been on a plane in 4 years, haven't had a holiday in that time either. i hardly use the car either, tbh, maybe once a fortnight. [virtuous] and dh doesn't drive. we just, er, walk most places or get public transport. BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A CITY!!!

southeastastra · 27/06/2007 13:41

not being able to afford a 4x4 is one of the most classic answers 4x4 owners cite i've noticed.

you can buy dirt cheap 4x4s

paulaplumpbottom · 27/06/2007 13:41

I think that pedestrians shouls stick to crosswalks and sidewalks where they belong and then there might not be a problem

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:43

yeah i think it is more about your hate for your neighbour then your hate for 4x4s. you said you would have a 4x4 in the country so i don't really think it's about your concern for the planet is it? if you hate your neighbour fine, but you really can't put everyone in the same catograry can you just because your neighbour you hate happens to have a 4x4.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:43

no, actually, i just know he's a rich architect because he's a rampant self-publicist and is in the papers here often. my friend interviewed him and declared him the biggest wanker he'd ever met in a journalistic career of over twenty years. pmsl at you, though.

southeastastra · 27/06/2007 13:43

ha that reminds me of a 4x4 driver that went right on the pavement the other day just so she could get in lane on a roundabout and not wait half a second like everyone else.

bobsmum · 27/06/2007 13:43

SEA - ours was £4K. 10 yr old Range Rover.
All the 4x4s out here are ancient wrecks which are used for what they were intended.

The ones in town - parked in my parent's posh street for example are all shiny and bells and whistles and willy extensions. Worth a look actually

pyjamaqueen · 27/06/2007 13:43

I resent the implication that if you drive a 4x4 you are likely to kill or injure a small car. I have never injured anyone in ANY of the vehicles I have owned, big or small, and if a small child were to stand in my blind spot, my car would beep to tell me I was about to hit something!

pyjamaqueen · 27/06/2007 13:44

whoops - meant child - not car (got cars on the brain)

pooka · 27/06/2007 13:44

Oh so we come back to the "you're just jealous because you can't afford one" argument.
Codswallop. Can't speak for aitch's budget, but we could afford one. Just wouldn't do it for all the reasons listed above.

MissJoanHunterDunn · 27/06/2007 13:44
bobsmum · 27/06/2007 13:44

I could easily kill a child in my 4x4. Mine doesn't beep. But I'm more likely to encounter a chicken tbh.

southeastastra · 27/06/2007 13:45

your car would beep! since when in a beep better than human eyes?

what if your beep malfunctioned

pooka · 27/06/2007 13:45

curses - lots of posters much quicker than me!

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:46

oh stop being so silly, all of you. if it was only one neighbour who had a 4x4 it wouldn't be a problem. i mentioned him simply because his car is so big and so inappropriate for the environment where we live that he can't actually move it for fear of never getting parked again.
didn't we cover the jealousy thing last night? we're really not jealous of you, you know. i actually pity people for their lack of imagination on that one.

DrNortherner · 27/06/2007 13:46

"what if your beep malfunctioned"

I love it!! That shuold be quote of the blinkin week!!!

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:48

i do think that people hate 4x4s for reasons they won't share. if they were that concerned about the planet, theres alot of things they wouldn't do. maybe it's because they feel like the minority on the roads?

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:48

ROFL. i could afford one if i bought it over time. i've always bought in cash, though, so no i couldn't, not at the moment.

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:49

do you really think i'm holding back, icing?

Manictigger · 27/06/2007 13:49

Yes Icing, but Aitch hates 4 x 4s for many reasons not just environmental ones so it seemed a bit pointless to ask her about tumbledriers. She might as well have been asked if she eats baked beans a lot because they'll make her fart more and create more methane/ greenhouse gases.

(or Aitch, do your farts knock over small children and stray into other parking spaces ? )

IcingOnTheCake · 27/06/2007 13:50

i do think you don't just hate 4x4s because of their polluting power

Aitch · 27/06/2007 13:52

it has been known...
but obviously i don't feel any responsibility because icing also farts.

MrsWho · 27/06/2007 13:52

Really shouldn't join this thread especially since I haven't read most of it but here goes!

I think if you don't go off road you don't need one , if itisn't essential you shouldn't fly and you shouldn't use a tumble dryer (unless you have a flat and NO outside space at all!)

I also don't see the point in sports cars

I know a family with 3 6ft lads and they have a tiny car (think they can't be comfatable tbh and they live in the middle of the countryside!)
