Shutdowns, military pullouts, and resignations: it’s Christmas and Trump thread 89

It’s chaos in Trump’s world, more so than usual, with #TrumpResign trending in Twitter after a number of key debacles: the pull-out of US troops from Syria, the resignation of General Jim Mattis, and the shutdown of the government over Christmas due to bipartisan disagreement over wall funding. (Those are just 3 issues.) The next few weeks will be rocky.

I am so pleased to see Nancy Pelosi elected as Speaker of the House today. I may have mentioned that I can't comprehend the antipathy towards her by Democrats. From what I have seen, she is a very capable woman and I admire her hugely. God, I hope they find a way of getting rid of the Orange Blimp and his equally idiotic followers. First time I've prayed in ages - but what the heck, fight prayer with prayer, why not?

Roussette · 03/01/2019 19:42

I watched her daughter on CNN I think it was. Alexandra Pelosi. Great interview, that girl's got balls just like her mother!

MerdedeBrexit · 03/01/2019 20:11

So, I'm not really getting what this meant? edition.cnn.com/2019/01/03/politics/democrats-vote-against-pelosi-list-speaker/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_term=image&utm_source=twCNNp&utm_content=2019-01-03T20%3A05%3A06 Though some comments seemed to imply that Democrats in Republican heartlands couldn't be seen to be voting for Pelosi, if I understand correctly?

Roussette · 03/01/2019 21:06

That's 15 democrats who didn't vote for her?? Shock]

Replying to @realDonaldTrump
This is an article worth reading, there is a lot of really great content -- President Trump has repeatedly indicated that he sees his own insensitivity to human suffering as a vital source of leverage over Democrats

AcrossthePond55 · 03/01/2019 21:22

Scroll on CNN says "Nadler introduces bill to protect Mueller" but I can't find anything in print to confirm, although there are articles saying he planned to do so. Also, Brad Sherman plans to reintroduce an impeachment bill.

Sarah Huckleberry Slanders will be holding a presser soon. I probably won't be able to hang in there for more than 25 seconds.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/01/2019 21:26

Merde these are Dems who squeaked by in predominantly Repug districts. Most of them did so by trying to appear to be 'moderates' and they're trying to hold on to that appearance. Pelosi is seen by a lot of the GOP heartlanders as a Socialist Feminazi Dragon Lady who 'doesn't know her place'.

At some point those Dems are going to have to shit or get off the pot.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/01/2019 21:28

Whaaaa? Trump's going to speak at the presser?

AcrossthePond55 · 03/01/2019 21:30

Meh. He's going to drone on about the wall. I'm outta there!

Roussette · 03/01/2019 21:34

Trump has been speaking. And now he's bringing on the heavy mob. It is total scaremongering. Murderers, Rapists, Drugs 'these people'. This is a lot of arse licking thanking Trump and it's just wall, wall, wall.

Nauseating

Roussette · 03/01/2019 21:38

And off he waddles

There is a lot of shouting by reporters, one saying 'this is supposed to be a press conference, are there supposed to be NO questions?'

Then they call out to Bill Shine 'why no questions, what is the point?'

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 03/01/2019 22:56

Trump had lovely backing singers at the press conference. Or they could have been chosen to make his hair look good.

Roussette · 03/01/2019 22:59

I know! There was not a hair to be seen on any of the mob behind him!

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 03/01/2019 23:02

And while I'm on bad photos. Would it kill him to hire someone who actually knows how to apply fake tan?

This is wordy, but well worth the effort. North Korea discusses the glory of life of North Korea compared to, well, everywhere else.

Open Questionnaire to Human Rights Schemers Issued

The Korea Association for Human Rights Studies on Sunday raised an open questionnaire, in which it said that this year 2018 has witnessed a great change in the world political trend and in particular, warm wind of peace swept the Korean Peninsula and the region, drawing the public attention.

The questionnaire said that the world has undergone amazing changes, but only the U.S. and its followers remain unchanged in their mean and stupid ambition to stifle the DPRK.

Shortly ago, the U.S. and its followers at a full-dress session of the United Nations General Assembly fabricated another "resolution on human rights in north Korea" malignantly slandering the dignity and system of the DPRK while letting out abuses like "extensive and serious violation of human rights" and "probe into responsibility", it noted.

The association, on behalf of the Korean people and the conscience of mankind, made the following questions to the U.S. and its vassal forces hell-bent on turning black into white and the UN playing a role of rubber stamp for the U.S. against the international justice and impartiality:

1.Is there any country on the earth like the DPRK where the people fully enjoy political freedom and democratic rights as masters of the society?

We'd like to ask if you have ever heard of such political terms as politics based on the people-first doctrine and politics of respecting and loving the people and the motto of prioritizing the interests of the people, holding them absolute and making selfless, devoted efforts for the good of people.

2.Can you pick out any country like the DPRK that has no jobless person and vagabond?

We'd like to ask if you, bat-blinds, have no nerve to believe that there is the country unique on this planet, where all the working people are living a creative working-life to their hearts' content, free from unemployment and worry about job.

3.Can you imagine such social policies of the DPRK for its people as free education, free medical treatment and free provision of dwelling houses from the state?

There are many countries in the world, but the DPRK is the one and only country where the state builds dwelling houses and provides them to people free of charge and ordinary people like workers, farmers, teachers, researchers and office workers move into splendid houses in Ryomyong Street, Mirae Scientists Street and other streets without paying even a penny. Perhaps, all of you are so fearful that homeless people sleeping curled up in subways and waiting rooms in New York and Washington may know such a fairytale story that was already materialized in the DPRK.

  1. Have you ever heard about the country where all the members of society are trained to be highly civilized and creative beings under the slogan of making all the people well versed in science and technology?
Fin-de-siecle ways of life like misanthropy, contempt, violence, pornography and corruption afflict the sound souls and bodies of people, driving them into the abyss of ignorance, in the U.S. and other Western countries. Those countries had better understand where they live in, the sunny world or the dark world and the civilized world or the barbarous world, before talking about someone's performance of "human rights".
  1. Can you pinpoint any land of human love, except the DPRK, in the world map?
The U.S. had better work hard to clean its dirty face before slandering others.
  1. It is just the time for the U.S.-led hostile forces and the UN to throw away the old drum of "human rights" racket against the DPRK, isn't it?
Why does the U.S. fail to give up the old prejudice and hostility even after the publication of the DPRK-U.S. joint statement in Singapore?

Until when will the UN go with the ill fame of American empire's puppet, bereft of international justice and impartiality, resorting to anti-DPRK "human rights" racket, little short of state-sponsored political terrorism?
Falsity gives in to truth and darkness to brightness.

Nothing can cover up the brilliant reality of the DPRK where the people enjoy genuine rights at the highest level as real masters of the state and society and no one on earth can block the bright path ahead of the DPRK, no matter how rampant all sorts of lies, deceptions, tricks and plots are in the world.

In addition, Breitbart reported NK had executed an artillery commander for insubordination. (As yet, I haven’t seen reports of this anywhere else.) It was disturbing and disheartening to see in the comments beneath the article that this sort of punishment would be very fitting for the likes of Comey, Clinton, et al. They are absolutely willing to follow their derpy, idiot, deeply flawed leader into a dictatorship. Either that, or they simply have a lack or critical thought.

No. Not a hero, but the kid who poked a stick into a wasps’ nest. His slightly earlier tweet about tariffs on China was intrinsically incorrect - China isn’t paying, the US importers are - and relations have only soured to the point the the US government itself today issued an advisory to US travellers (they could be detained when leaving China). Nothing is great here. At all.

I wonder if China landing on the other side of the moon will trigger Trump... how long before he starts talking about his Space Force again....

How uplifting Lion that link you've just done to the historic firsts. It warmed the cockles of me heart Grin

He will probably say he is on his way to the moon to build a beautiful space wall to keep the Chinese out of the near side of the moon.

Lweji · 04/01/2019 09:04

It looks like a powerful message from the Chinese. Their spokesman said something about resources, but it's a "yes we can message".

Meanwhile a NK ambassador is missing/has defected? I saw something on TV late last night.

Whelan weirdness:

Julia Ioffe
@juliaioffe
This account makes Paul Whelan sound more like Carter Page than a LeCarre spy. The weirdness continues.

www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/american-paul-whelan-charged-with-espionage-in-russia-news-agency-reports/2019/01/03/51dab55a-0f6a-11e9-8f0c-6f878a26288a_story.html

Juliette Kayyem
@juliettekayyem
Whelan consistently altered his resume (he was crossing guard), got discharged from Marines, Russophile and MAGAphile, multiple country ties/citizenship.
This is getting very very odd.

Olga Lautman
@olgaNYC1211
This spy case is getting way too complicated. Guardian is reporting that Whelan also was a British citizen. Meanwhile Whelan’s lawyer had a genius (sarcasm) idea of a spy swap for Butina. How many citizenships does Whelan have?

mobile.twitter.com/olgaNYC1211/status/1080693867224150016

And just now:

Deborah Haynes
@haynesdeborah
BREAKING
@Jeremy_Hunt
says UK not ruling out anything in case of Paul Whelan including possibility Russia is detaining him on false spying charges to use as leverage against UK on #Salisbury or US over Maria Butina. “Individuals should not be used as pawns of diplomatic leverage”

Asked whether Russia is detaining Whelan on trumped up charges to use as leverage against UK or Russia, Britain’s foreign secretary said: “We are not ruling out any theories at all at this stage as to why this might have happened. We are extremely worried about Paul Whelan”

He continued: “Our position is very, very clear ... individuals should not be used as pawns of diplomatic leverage. We need to see what those charges are against him to understand whether there is a case or not”
