To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

Ta1kinpeace do you think it’s possible he could have set the drone on a preprogrammed flight path and then “sat at his ex wife’s house having a cup of tea” like the reports says he was doing? If they are the wrong people I feel so sorry for them.

nickiredcar · 23/12/2018 10:38

You'd have to be a Muppet thinking you could help the police and military in the highest profile crime in one of the richest countries in the world

Bluntness100 · 23/12/2018 10:39

The police had these guys in their sight for nearly a day before they were arrested. Of course the friends and family are going to say it wasn't them.

However it remains to be seen if they will be charged.but the police will have arrested them both on way more than he is a drone enthusiast.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 23/12/2018 10:40

i wonder if it is a relative of theirs?

GaryBaldbiscuit · 23/12/2018 10:40

and therefore too young to charge

Bluntness100 · 23/12/2018 10:47

I don't think any of us can guess, the airport was seemingly using technology that could detect drones via radar which would indicate they know where the operator was and also maybe info on the drones themselves.

If it was them then it's such a stupid thing to do, they will lose their home, their jobs, the lot as they will go to jail.

The fact they are still in custody and not being charged and it doesn't seem the police are looking for anyone else would indicate they need to build up enough evidence to charge them.

guinea36 · 23/12/2018 10:57

Where does it say he was caught with the drone in a country lane? Thought they were both arrested at home?

GaryBaldbiscuit · 23/12/2018 11:06

a cyclist in fluorescent cycling gear was seen in a country lane

nickiredcar · 23/12/2018 11:14

When do they have to be either charged or released?

I don't think radar would be much help for finding the operator even if there was one, they can fly so high and 5 miles away.

Our drone has a sports mode where it goes pretty quick, so with a programmed route they could be 15+ miles away. Then fly really high up and return to base all within the 30 mins flying time.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 23/12/2018 11:21

Released without charge now.

RoseAndRose · 23/12/2018 11:26

Does it say if it means 'because they have been exonerated' or 'whilst investigations continue'?

The fact they are still in custody and not being charged and it doesn't seem the police are looking for anyone else would indicate they need to build up enough evidence to charge them.

The police stopped looking for anyone else and concentrated on building 'evidence' when they arrested Jerry Conlon, 3 of his friends and much of his extended family. The same applies to Hugh Callaghan, Patrick Joseph Hill, Gerard Hunter, Richard McIlkenny, William Power and John Walker. What about the Bridgewater 4, The Cardiff Newsagent 3. The Cardiff 3. What about the absolute bullshit suspicious behaviour the police attributed to Jean Charles de Menezes who's only suspicious behaviour was wearing a denim jacket while having light brown skin.

I hope Kirk and Gait are guilty of this because this kind of wrongful arrest and trial by media is absolutely devastating if they are innocent. But I don't have any automatic presumption of their guilt because sometimes being arrested by police, especially police who are under enormous pressure to get a result, means absolutely nothing other than that the police are willing to get that result by any means necessary.

trancepants · 23/12/2018 11:34

Sussex Police said the pair were no longer suspects.
Well there we go. Poor bastards. I hope they find away to negate the negative aspects of this experience and move on positively.

Bluntness100 · 23/12/2018 11:36

No longer suspects means they believe they are entirely innocent.

And I agree, poor bastards.

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2018 11:36

NopeNi · 23/12/2018 11:36

It should be fucking illegal for papers to do this.

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2018 11:38

and Happy Xmas to them from West Sussex police... I hope they somehow manage to have a good one.

ChesterGreySideboard · 23/12/2018 11:41

I hope they manage to sue the crap out of the newspapers.

Oblomov18 · 23/12/2018 11:42

Have the couple been released yet? His boss said it couldn't have been him because he was at work at the time? As a window fitter.

If it's not them, and their photo is all over the media, you'd be well narked, wouldn't you?

trancepants · 23/12/2018 11:44

I hope they manage to sue the crap out of the newspapers.

Legally they probably can't as the papers have not done anything illegal as far as I've seen. They were arrested and everything reported about them was factual. In fact the papers were very fast to report his alibi, her disinterest in drones/toy fliers and the general disbelief from people who know them. They are far more likely to get money, and quickly, if they sell an exclusive interview. Which I wouldn't blame them for.

ManicUnicorn · 23/12/2018 11:45

Wow. These people have had their Christmas ruined! The press and the police ought to be fucking ashamed of themselves.

This whole thing screams of a cover up to me. I know it sounds a bit mad, and I'll be accused of being a member of the tin foil hat brigade but theres so much more tot his than we are being told.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 23/12/2018 11:55

Absolutely poor bastards, i think the majority of folks believed in their innocence as some compensation

TheQueef · 23/12/2018 11:59

When I saw who was arrested I told my DF if they were guilty I would donate £500 to the Tory party.

Whoever did this was clearly confident in the face of the authorities response.

I can't imagine many of us could casually drive a van around whilst armed airport police, armed regular police, armed special police and of course the British army looked for us.
