To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

yes the whole london area is clear of air traffic

FunshineCareBear · 21/12/2018 00:21

So Heathrow has anti drone tech and Gatwick doesn't? Well that's biting them in the arse now then.

Myshinynewname · 21/12/2018 00:23

Sorry I meant stanstead not London city.
Thanks word

IamPickleRick · 21/12/2018 00:23

I understood that they do have the cababilty to disable a standard Argos remote control drone by scrambling the signal. But this drone is an industrial model and may have been custom built so can bypass that.

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 21/12/2018 00:23

Is anti drone tech effective?

LivininaBox · 21/12/2018 00:26

They need the same kit as Chase from Paw Patrol, then they can fire a net at it.

hmmhohmmm · 21/12/2018 00:28

I've just seen on twitter someone suggesting they had inside info that there was a terror threat that couldn't be prevented and thus the drone story was born

Whilst it's just a random on twitter, that would kinda make some sense

Cheekysquirrel · 21/12/2018 00:29

I’m starting to get a bad feeling about this.
Is it possible it could just be a drone or is this likely to be masking something scarier?

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 21/12/2018 00:30

I'm wondering where all the cabin crew are staying......hope they are in hotels, I'm thinking they will all be rammed full by now

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 21/12/2018 00:30

The call sign CMB (pronounced camber) means a plane is on contract to the US Transportation Command. Could be as simple as a troop carrier. That’s what just flew over Gatwick anyway.

Wordthe · 21/12/2018 00:35

so for a couple of hours no theyve been talking about shooting it own, but have not done so
clearly much more is going on but what kind of more?

hmmhohmmm · 21/12/2018 00:39

I think they're flying it themselves

Cover story to hide that they can't stop a threat but can either strand the terrorists elsewhere or keep the people safe by not flying them?

PossiblyPFB · 21/12/2018 01:01

@hmmhohmmm I said exactly the same earlier. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but that does make some sense if it’s a hamfisted coverup to keep the public safe and try to resolve something -strange how there are no pics anywhere & it seems bizarre yet relatively easily resolvable!

DubBeGoodToMe · 21/12/2018 01:09

i also think there’s something being covered up. It’s been so long now and is all quite weird.
We’re flying out of Heathrow tomorrow and I’m crossing fingers that doesn’t get affected. In 2010 our flight at this time of the year was badly delayed by the snowstorms. I really feel for all the poor sods stranded at Gatwick or those who should be at Gatwick but can’t be.

Wordthe · 21/12/2018 01:12

resolve what though?
there are millions of people with cameras that they can point at the sky and yet no footage of anything

Wordthe · 21/12/2018 01:23

Still getting reports that flights will be cancelled for the next few days

hmmhohmmm · 21/12/2018 01:27

@PossiblyPFB yup and the article explaining why it's not so simple is being heavily pushed

PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 01:31

Heavily pushed by whom?

hmmhohmmm · 21/12/2018 01:35

No idea... I just keep seeing it over and over

PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 01:37

Because when the UK needs to close a railway station, building or road because of a terrorist threat, we usually just close it. And announce it's because of a terrorist threat.

We've even been known to very publicly park tanks on the road to Heathrow, and announce why.

There isn't a need for the police or government to fuck about with drones or invent drone stories.

Whereas someone trying to extract even more drama and anxiety out of this particularly annoying crisis will of course be all over social media raising the temperature.

PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 01:42

Oh look, what a surprise.

Hamilton Dashboard (which tracks Russia-linked influence networks on Twitter) shows Gatwick as top trending topic.

dashboard.securingdemocracy.org

NB This doesn't mean Russia has anything to do with the drones. Just that it has its big ol' stirry stick out to make the most of the opportunity.

Which is why you "keep seeing it over and over."

CantRememberHoliday · 21/12/2018 01:51

This is all so scary and confusing

Spaghettibol · 21/12/2018 01:54

How can they be saying it’s not a terror threat when they don’t know who’s behind it

PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 02:08
