To think Harry and Meghan’s photo is odd looking?!

Just having a look at the royal family Christmas card pics. Very nice. Love William and Kate’s family pic. How sweet are those kids 😍

Lots of people on Twitter raving about Meghan and Harry’s photo. I genuinely really like Harry and Meghan. Nothing against them whatsoever.

But I absolutely refuse to believe that i am alone in thinking their photo is so awkward looking!

She looks stunning and the background is amazing but it just looks weird! I think it’s the way he’s standing. It’s not elegant. It looks really odd to me.

Anyone else??

You could have done your own research in the time it took for you to post that comment but in any case:

Are you sure you linked to the right picture and article? Hmm

katekat383 · 17/12/2018 13:57

Omg - that slit dress she wore in Oz. Cringe

katekat383 · 17/12/2018 13:59

@Becles
Genuinely astonished you misremembered the slit dress. Confused

You seem to think it's okay to call anyone racist who dares to make any criticism of Meghan Markle, even when their comments have had nothing whatsoever to do with her mixed race heritage.

That's actually quite offensive.

JacquesHammer · 17/12/2018 14:10

Genuinely astonished you misremembered the slit dress

Pretty astonished why you’d expect anyone to remember.

It’s a complete non-event.

Racism works more than one way

No it doesn't. Prejudice and discrimination does but not racism.

ViragoKnows · 17/12/2018 14:44

No it doesn't. Prejudice and discrimination does but not racism.

Oh don’t start foisting that niche theory on us all again. Of course most racism in the UK works a certain way, but not all of it.

FirstOfHerName · 17/12/2018 14:46

It isn't a "niche theory" but I wouldn't expect racists to realise that. May I suggest Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge if you'd like to educate yourself.

MissQuad · 17/12/2018 15:11

Shepherdspieisminging
There are people on this forum who I am quite happy to carry on with the conversation- with different opinions on both sides.
And there are people on this forum who are RACISTS.
Then again, you think you know what WE feel and then come to your conclusion regarding what assume? And by that I mean people of color- people who are a shade or more darker than white. Or as Steve Biko said- pink
Unless you have walked in our shoes, you will never know what RACISM is. So I suggest you turn left!

tinytcup · 17/12/2018 15:51

They're just showing two fingers to the public aren't they? good for them
Much as they’d probably love to, i think even the entitled over privileged royal family would draw the line at biting the hand that feeds them. But then again i should imagine they feel complete disdain for the mugs who support them, so you could be right.

ViragoKnows · 17/12/2018 15:55

It isn't a "niche theory"

It really is. One writer unilaterally declared it the new definition. Thats not how social science, or even activism, works. Many PoC dont accept it. Many social theorists don’t accept it.

but I wouldn't expect racists to realise that.

You're making really ludicrous assumptions just becaise you’re not getting total unquestioning agreement.

I’d still be interested to hear anyone who’s willing to point out the actual racism on the thread (because a small part of me is worried that there is some and it’s passed me by) but all we've had so far is the assertion that “different” is a definite euphemism for “non-white” followed by a few accusations of “Racist!!”

May I suggest Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge if you'd like to educate yourself.

More ludicrous assumptions 🤷🏻‍♀️

BertrandRussell · 17/12/2018 16:58

Prejudice and xenophobia work "both ways" Racism doesn't. HTH.

ViragoKnows · 17/12/2018 17:00

“HTH”? Really?! You might do better with “Blah diddi blah diddy blah FACT”.

Sickofdrugs · 17/12/2018 17:03

My cousin and his fiancee gave us all christmas cards of a photo from their engagement shoot. I could not contain my sniggering when I opened it in front of het looked sniggered more and put it back in its envelope. It was very similar to the sussex's effort. Fiancee was most upset. I don't suppose Meghan cares.

MissQuad · 17/12/2018 17:07

Lydiaatthebarre

Don't try to tell me what is and is not Racism. You wouldn't know racism if it slapped you across the face.

Becles · 17/12/2018 18:36

@katekat383 Have seen your link to the dress. What exactly was wrong with it? Slit is nowhere close to knickers or I'm anyway sexy/alluring.

HighNoon · 17/12/2018 18:39

"Black" is not a racist term. Meghan Markle is black.

Ghanagirl · 17/12/2018 18:52

@Shepherdspieisminging
You’re upset by what I said whilst you picked apart and bitched about a woman you don’t know.
Then come over all hurt and sensitive.

Ghanagirl · 17/12/2018 18:57

@JamieFrasersArse
Some on MN think being accused of racism is worse than being a card carrying Nazi.

Becles · 17/12/2018 19:30

@Ghanagirl That would be because 'racism is pitchforks and hoods'. British people are very much coded and intentional in their language and because it is often hidden or slyly dropped (and usually not called out) it's easy to dismiss or imply someone's being a snowflake.

Meghan is not white and never will be, so this is just the beginning of a lifetime of hidden micro aggressions and blatant hostility.

cosysock · 17/12/2018 19:34

The royal family, like celebrities will always get picked apart. The RF is supported by the taxpayer, people can have an opinion if they want. They choose a life in the spotlight, it’s to be expected. We don’t have to know them, but they make themselves known to us. Or should we only talk of them in glowing reverent terms.

Ghanagirl · 17/12/2018 19:46

@FirstOfHerName
I’m not sure you can educate someone who is determined to stick to racist behaviour and when challenged suddenly play the victim
