To think Harry and Meghan’s photo is odd looking?!

Just having a look at the royal family Christmas card pics. Very nice. Love William and Kate’s family pic. How sweet are those kids 😍

Lots of people on Twitter raving about Meghan and Harry’s photo. I genuinely really like Harry and Meghan. Nothing against them whatsoever.

But I absolutely refuse to believe that i am alone in thinking their photo is so awkward looking!

She looks stunning and the background is amazing but it just looks weird! I think it’s the way he’s standing. It’s not elegant. It looks really odd to me.

Anyone else??

Another MM discussion shut down by accusations of racism.

From a photo viewing only when news of the engagement broke, I actually thought MM was of possibly Armenian, Mexican, Spanish, Greek or Italian heritage, so can I have a get out of “you’re a racist!” jail free card? I disliked her obvious falseness during her engagement interview and that’s what formed my opinion. I still did not know her heritage at that point. A few of my friends thought the same 🤷‍♀️

Deadbudgie · 17/12/2018 21:10

It’s a weird picture. It looks like some sort of distorted body next to meghan. Have they tried to make Harry broader to make Meghan look smaller? Is he this big really? He has to reach behind himself to hold meghans hand because he’s so broad that her arm won’t reach that far? I’m sure out of the millions of pictures they’ve had taken they could have found a better one?

What the hell is wrong with his leg!?

IcedPurple · 17/12/2018 21:14

If I were to guess, solely based on her appearance, I'd probably have thought she was of Mexican heritage. As someone pointed out above, she certainly doesn't go out of her way to identify with the black part of her heritage, having surgically slimmed down her nose and straighening her hair.

But some here have an ideological commitment to believing that anyone who isn't fawning all over her is a racist ('hidden' or otherwise). No evidence is required, or offered - simply accusing someone of racism appears to be enough. There's no point in arguing with those who form their opinions on such an illogical basis. Rationality doesn't enter into it.

aconcertpianist · 17/12/2018 21:17

I do think we have to be very careful of making negative comments about people of colour.

Of course, on the surface, it might look as if it is about her dress sense or her personality but, apart from the fact that one's race does inform these things, comments could also be fuelled by unconscious racism.

When the day comes when racism towards people of colour is no more, we can happily bitch about who we like but until then, could I suggest that we try to avoid being critical of people of colour full stop. After all, there are plenty of white people that we can gossip about!

I second the suggestion of, 'Why I Am No Longer Talking To White People About Race' It really is an eye opener about just how racist white people are-most tellingly those of us who don't think we are.

You can suggest it, but others can also say that it's a ridiculous idea.

By that 'logic' nobody could be critical of, say, Mugabe. Yes, I know he's on a completely different level to a slightly annoying duchess, but that is where your 'logic' leads.

Cranky17 · 17/12/2018 21:27

Omg - that slit dress she wore in Oz. Cringe leave her be, it’s just a wardrobe malfunction which was caused by her bending down to talk to someone rather then ignoring her well wishers.
She really has done nothing wrong, she has shown dignity and warmth.
People don’t like strong females, if women are assertive and no their own mind they are labelled aggressive, and if they don’t conform they are labelled difficult.
Women need stop judging each other and start supporting each other.

Exactly. Pointless.Xmas Hmm

Ghanagirl · 17/12/2018 21:49

@IcedPurple
So if white women perm or curl their hair and fake tan does that mean they don’t identify with their heritage?
Your sense of superiority is astounding.

aconcertpianist · 17/12/2018 22:09

@icedpurple.

I suppose I'm thinking more about racism in our own country where most of the population is white but yes, I do see your point.

CupsAndPentacles · 17/12/2018 22:42

The charles and camilla one is nice actually!

Would it be okay by you if a black person said that xmas card pic was funny?

user1457017537 · 18/12/2018 00:43

Someone on the Royal thread said it’s like Gaston and Belle, it is very Beauty and the Beast in my opinion.

MissyCooper · 18/12/2018 00:54

Wow.

All this over a banana leg 🤷🏻‍♀️

What is wrong with the slit picure? Why is it 'cringe'? Jealously, that's all. Diana wore shorts. I remember the pics on holiday just before she died. Showed more leg than the picture just linked to. Nobody said it was cringe. You are so pathetic. Pure jealously. You're the ones suffering. And Megan's enjoying her lovely life. Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of harming another; you end up getting burned. Anger because another is doing better than you in life. Keep hating 😂😂😂

Mummylife2018 · 18/12/2018 01:30

The definition of racism is to discriminate against or insult somebody BASED on their race.

For example - Insulting their skin colour or refuse them entry to an event because of their race.

To criticise somebody's Christmas card of a couple who one of whom just so happens to be of a different race, but without mentioning their race, is NOT racism!

For instance, viewing a home of a couple who just so happen to be either mixed race or of colour and criticising their wallpaper choice, is NOT racism is it?! Get a grip!

NaiceShoes · 18/12/2018 01:48

Racism has moved on, love. It's no longer only overt. It's illegal you see, so people have to do it in covert ways now. But cling on to your dictionary definition if it makes you feel good 🙄

Actually, the Christmas card and wallpaper examples are interesting. Both of these are examples where racist mindsets could show- the nudge nudge wink wink just the sort of thing you would expect from "people like that, if you know what I mean" sort of comment. Racism doesn't just show in big things. It's the low level constant hum that helps to make the big things acceptable.

CupsAndPentacles · 18/12/2018 06:47

I don't see the racism.

People forget what an utter fucking PASTING kate middleton got for years. Now her turn is over. She's accepted. Honestly it'll all calm down for Meghan and Harry. If there were a third brother, his gf should be worried though.

I like that the picture was THEIR choice. Their card, their moment, their choice, their decision to share. All of the rest of it.........fgs,

Because let's face it none of us received one

Don’t all slebs cup their bellies when they’re a bit pregnant so in the photos they don’t just look fat?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 18/12/2018 07:00

Every new member of the royal family gets a pasting. Wallis Simpson, prince Philip, Diana, Fergie, Camilla, Sophie, Kate - now its Meghan’s turn.

The press like to build up & then knock down. Nothing to do with race but is IMO (in the presses eyes) to do with people marrying into the royal family having to ‘know their place’!

Anyone Harry married would have received the same treatment.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 18/12/2018 07:16

Also Prince Philip a descendant of Queen Victoria still wasn’t considered good enough to marry into the royal family!
