I have seen him put his hand on his heart – I think belatedly – but I think it was when people facing him did. It doesn't come from within him, but from copying others. Whether that's because of memory problems or narcissism, who knows

I think it's more a case of 'monkey see, monkey do'.

Documents Point to Illegal Campaign Coordination Between Trump and the NRA

Trump and the gun group used the same consultants to spearhead TV ad blitzes at the height of the 2016 election, likely in violation of federal law.

Ha ha! lion! Love that!

Thanks, lion, made my morning. Grin
As an aside, and off the main topic - whilst watching the funeral, we felt there might be something wrong with Bill Clinton - he seems unusually frail compared to Dubya, though they are the same age, I think. I'd noticed it before, but it was quite striking that day. My mother had vascular dementia and he reminded me of her at the beginning, when we didn't know what was going on and she seemed all right some of the time. (I don't wish it on him or his family.)

The frantic scramble before Mueller got the job

edition-m.cnn.com/2018/12/06/politics/rosenstein-comey-firing-obstruction-probe/index.html

In the hectic eight days after President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and top FBI officials viewed Trump as a leader who needed to be reined in, according to two sources describing the sentiment at the time.
They discussed a range of options, including the idea of Rosenstein wearing a wire while speaking with Trump, which Rosenstein later denied. Ultimately, then-acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe took the extraordinary step of opening an obstruction of justice investigation even before special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed, the sources said. The obstruction probe was an idea the FBI had previously considered, but it didn't start until after Comey was fired. The justification went beyond Trump's firing of Comey, according to the sources, and also included the President's conversation with Comey in the Oval Office asking him to drop the investigation into his former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Making President Trump’s Bed: A Housekeeper Without Papers

At the president’s New Jersey golf course, an undocumented immigrant has worked as a maid since 2013. She said she never imagined she “would see such important people close up.”

Has this been posted? The new Randy Rainbow:

Merde I didn't realise GWB and Clinton were the same age. Clinton does look much more frail but he has done since his heart surgery.

Lweji · 07/12/2018 07:48

Everyone keeps forgetting Jimmy Carter. Didn't Trump also snub the man who had to sell his family farm to avoid conflict of interest?

Minimammoth · 07/12/2018 08:13

Have I got this right. When Mueller hand in his final report, it goes to the Attorney General ( acting AG Whittaker) who then decides which if any of it can go public. Does this mean it could just get buried, if W is Trumps puppet?

Roussette · 07/12/2018 08:16

Yes, Trump did snub him. A good man who, even at his age, does manual charity work for this charity. He's probably too insignificant for Trump to bother with.

He is very prolific on Twitter over the last few hours. Having to sit through the funeral must've really got to him. His tweets are ridiculous and very me me me.

Gumpendorf · 07/12/2018 08:18

In theory mini that's right.

Gumpendorf · 07/12/2018 08:31

I noticed Melania waved to the Carters. She seemed to snub the Clintons though. The Trumps really were the guests everyone dreaded.

I think the Carters are overlooked generally. They are both in their 90s and have been married nearly as long as the Bushes. They also have been very ill. Carter is still active when he sees something he believes in. And does a huge amount for people who are less fortunate. I saw it mentioned that they were probably the last true Christians in the WH. Serving and then living modestly and quietly doing good.

As an aside, on MSNBC Chris Matthews kept trying to create controversy about a feud between HRC and Jimmy Carter. They were pointedly sitting a distance from each other and not speaking, he said more than once. Except ... there is footage of them having a conversation and a chuckle about something and the Carters were sitting on chairs at the end of the row and not in the pew.

I found the ceremonies this week to be very moving and food for the soul. Hugely helpful in a week when UK politicians seem hell bent on pushing us off the cliff.

In potential blow to Paul Manafort, the Supreme Court is unlikely to change the double jeopardy rule.

A presidential pardon could keep Manafort out of federal prison, but it would not free him from being prosecuted on similar state charges. http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/potential-blow-manafort-supreme-court-unlikely-change-double-jeopardy-rule-n944891

President Trump is expected to name Heather Nauert as the next UN ambassador, sources say cnn.it/2RHwBKv twitter.com/CNNPolitics/status/1070952565653803008/photo/1

MerdedeBrexit · 07/12/2018 08:46

Gumpendorf - ah, thank you, that would explain President Clinton's frailty - I hadn't realised he'd undergone heart surgery. That makes a lot of sense.

This might also be what has led to this week's anti Mueller tweet storms.

Gumpendorf · 07/12/2018 09:35

Merde. It was some years ago but Clinton acknowledges here how the surgery affected him.

Ahhh, that RandyRainbow was what I needed. I could properly hear Julie Andrews in some of it.Grin

Almost makes up for Mini summing up rather too succinctly the danger of Whitaker being in a position to bury Mueller's report, so that I can't ignore this any more.
